Arena LOE Hotfix

Daxxari posted on the official forums last week saying:

We’ve hotfixed the proportion of League of Explorers cards that appear while building an Arena deck.

Previously, some League of Explorers cards were scarce, while others appeared much too frequently.

League of Explorers cards should now correctly appear about 50% more often in Arenas than other sets.

Blizzard originally promised the rate-of-selection boost for League of Explorers cards in Arena decks at Blizzcon, but due to a bug, the bonus wasn’t properly implemented. HearthArena posted an analysis of multiple Arena deck shuffles and found that while common League of Explorers cards did indeed show 1.5x more than older cards, neutral rare and epic League of Explorers cards were seemingly showing up at a sub 1.5x proportion.

I'll keep this one short and sweet for you. I decided on a whim to add Elise Starseeker to my Midrange Druid deck, and here's how the very first game I played with it went:

Turn 1: Pass

Turn 2: Innervate into Elise because why not.

Turn 3: Map to the Golden Monkey.

Turn 4: Golden Monkey!!! Definitely buying a ticket for the Powerball today.

Turn 5: Nothing because all of my Legendaries were 6+ mana cost. FeelsBadMan.

Turn 6: Death by Face Hunter. Sadness. Despair.

In other news: I just started listening about 2 months ago and I love the show.  Thanks for the entertainment and education.

Holla Pollos!

I was listening to a recent episode where y’all talked about new player limitations when building decks. Obviously the newer players don't have as large of collections as veterans players and it would take them either a lot of time or a lot of money.

What do you think about introducing "Advanced Decks" similar to the "Basic Decks" that could be unlocked after hitting an easily obtainable class level (say level 5)? This could be another small set of cards they can unlock that are slightly better than the basics and point them in a more defined direction.

I was thinking along the lines of Magic's prebuilt decks that are a great value to someone who doesn't play regularly but still wants to be semi-competitive and has a theme. Blizzard could even have a small tooltip describing the style of play to help new players see the different archetypes. Maybe the advanced hunter deck could be similar to face hunter and the tooltip could read "this style deck uses lots of smaller minions for fast and quick damage". Let's hear your thoughts!

AHHH CLUCK!

Hello TAC Crew,

Jocelyn tweeted about getting burned out on Hearthstone today, and I have to say I have been feeling the same.  I've attributed it to 3 things (to me at least)

1) I'm sick of seeing some decks with no hope of seeing any balance changes

My competitive game of choice is actually Dota, and in Dota balance changes happen often. Blizzard has said they want the meta to adapt on its own, but that really doesn't happen.  TGT has been out for months now, and Secret Paladin is still prevalent.  I would be perfectly happy if the next expansion for Hearthstone only had 90ish cards but also nerfs for cards like Mysterious Challenger, Force of Nature + Savage Roar.  Losing to a hero in Dota over and over is annoying, but at least I know that hero will get hit with significant nerfs within 2-3 months and I will be able to play other heroes I like again.

2) Decks are too well tuned

LoE had some great cards in it: Entomb, Elise, etc.  Fitting those cards into a deck is very difficult.  You can't just casually throw an Elise into your deck to have better late game because almost anything you replace in any meta deck is better than Elise.  She's not even situational because she doesn't answer any problems.  That said, she is easily one of the coolest cards in Hearthstone, but if I want to have a chance against your average Shaman, Hunter, or Secret Paladin, I can't play her.

3) Keeping up with Hearthstone is a job that doesn't pay (most people)

I have fun playing Hearthstone, and I want to keep having fun playing Hearthstone.  That said, in order to keep up with everyone else, I need to complete my daily quests and play arena to maximize the efficiency of my gold.  I have too many bills to pay, and a family to provide for, to pay for packs in Hearthstone at this point.  I am too competitive, however, to play Hearthstone just to lose. I go on the ladder to play my fun decks and play against secret paladin, then face shaman, then secret paladin again.  So I basically only play arena now, but even that isn't always good.

I want to have fun with the game. I want to enjoy it.  But right now, I'm just tired of the same old stuff.
