Meet Coach Debra

Coach Debra, the Gators’ Head Coach, began her competitive swimming career in college where she represented Longwood College in the National Wheelchair Games both at the state level and nationally for several years.

She began coaching in 1987 forming the Gordonsville Gators Swim Team, beginning with only six swimmers! Coach Debra continued in Gordonsville until the formation of the Louisa Gators in 2009 and has continued with the Louisa Gators since their inception.

Coach Debra also coached the Louisa High School Swim and Dive team for the first two years.

Coach Debra is currently certified as a USA Swim Coach and as a Level 2 American Swim Coaches Association.  In addition, she is  an Emergency Medical Technician - Intermediate.Her favorite strokes are Butterfly and Freestyle!

On a personal note, Coach Debra enjoys reading and playing Mahjong on the computer and loves being near the  water to take advantage of any opportunities which include water!  Her favorite snacks are chips and salsa and Payday candy bars!

About the 2013 Gator season, Coach Debra shared,  “I’m excited about the upcoming season!  We have a nice assortment of returning and new swimmers so far!  My goals for the summer include: reaching our goal for Time Improvements, increase the number of swimmers who can swim Butterfly and Breaststroke, improve our starts and turns and to instill of love of swimming within all of our swimmers!  As always...we plan on having fun!! I can't wait to see everyone and look forward to getting to know our new families as well!!  See you at the pool!”
