Experiment

The children will learn to

identify which sense they use while eating. 

 What senses do we use when we eat?

  1.  The teacher will review our five senses.
  2. The teacher will tell the children that we will talk about the sense of taste.
  3. Display  a wide assortment of food that are sweet, sour, salty, and  bitter.
  4. Have the children taste each type of food and think about what senses they are being used.
  5. Have the children answer the following questions: How is  the food appearance? What sense did you use? What sense organ did you use? How did the food smell? What sense did you use? What sense organ did you use? How did the food texture feel? What sense(s) did you use? What sense organs did you use? Did it make any sound when you ate? What sense did you use? What sense organ did you use? How did the food taste? What sense did you use? What sense organ id you use? Do you use your five sense when you eat? Are you able to taste the food the same way without the senses?

The children will learn to classify  sweet and sour foods.

  1. The teacher will discuss sweet, sour, and salty food.
  2. The teacher will pass around a pieces of apples, bananas, and lemon to each child.
  3. Have the children identify the items and how they taste.
  4. Ask : What ingredient makes them sweet? (sugar)
  5. Have the children describe how they taste and compare them.
  6. Have the children describe the sense(s) organs they use to each each food item.
  7. Distribute activity p. 236.
  8. Have the children glue  food item that are sweet on the activity page. 
  1. What are some of the sweet items we have tasted?
