Dear Marczi,

I hope you got my telegram – At the last minute– knowing that Szerén^[1] was better – I abandoned our plans for the Italian trip – and our Bpest visit – it was all arranged – and we’d bought the tickets – but then some very important things came up here – meaning that I would have to be back by the 10th of Oct – to paint the Archbishop in York [7329] – I have hardly had a moment’s rest – which I sorely need – since I have spent every minute in my studio, so I feel that such a taxing journey – Bpest – Venice, Florence – Assissi [sic] in such a short space of time – would have been extremely tiring and expensive – and especially since I’ve had – and will continue to have – so many unexpected expenses lately.

I was very much looking forward to seeing you all – But as my Lucy^[2] so rightly says – we are planning to head for the warmer climes of Italy for 4/5 weeks towards the end of Sept Feb – So we will definitely come to Pest then – if Fate grants that everything goes well until then with you and with us here – I will write to Szerén – and to the young people – I don’t know Bárczy’s address in Paris – so can I ask you to let him know immediately – because the Regent^[3] – and Prime Minister^[4] – have already been notified of our arrival – I know you will understand – I have had so much work this year – and I just want to stay quietly in the countryside for a bit with Lucy – we are going down tomorrow morning and I won’t budge for 10 days –

Let me also hereby tell you – that Cartier, the finest jeweller here – is sending to your address – insured and in my name – a gold wristwatch for each of Elsa’s daughters – and gold cufflinks – for each of Ilonka’s sons^[5] – as soon as you receive them

Közbe reméllem megkaptad sürgönyömet – tudva hogy Szerén jobban van – az utolsó perczben feladtam terveinket az olasz útról – Bpesti vizitünket – minden már el volt intézve.– a jegyeket is megvettük – közbe oly fontos ügyek fejlődtek – miért itt kellett volna lennem már oct. 10ikén – a Herczegprimast York–ban festeni – magamnak alig volt pihenésem – mire nagy szükségem van – hiszen idáig itt voltam műtermemben. hogy úgy érzem ezen izgató utazás – Bpest – Velencze florence – Assissi ily rövid idő alatt – rendkívül fárasztó és drága lett volna – s különösen az utóbbi időben váratlan kiadásaim voltak – s lesznek.

nagyon vágytam benneteket látni – De másrészt mint Lucym helyesen mondja – mi – Sept február vége fele – tervezünk olaszország melegebb éghajla felé menni 4.5 hétre – ezen alkalombol biztosan – jövünk Pestre – adja a sors keze – hogy odáig nálatok s itt minden rendben menjen – Szerének – s a fiataloknak is írni fogok – Bárczy czimét Parisban nem tudom – ezért értesítsd öt azonnal – mert – a Regens – s ministerelnököt már értesítetté jövetelünkről– Tudom befogjátok látni – sokat dolgoztam ezidén – s csendben akarok egy kissé falun maradni, Lucy-vel – ahova holnap reggel megyünk s  nem mozdulok 10 napig – Ezen postával értesítelek – hogy Cartier az első ékszerész itten – nevemben – biztosítva –a te czímedre küld – Elza leányai részére – egy egy – arany orát, karlánczzal és Ilonka – fiai részére pedig egy egy – arany manzsetta gombokat – a mint megkaptad azonnal
