Games start at 8.30am and run through the day and evening, with younger age groups in the earliest time slots and oldest teams in the later time slots.  The last games start at 8.20pm.

HOW LONG IS A GAME?

Games usually last for around 40 minutes

- Saturday games consist of two 20 minute halves, with a 2 minute halftime break

- Midweek and Friday games consist of two 18 minutes halves with a 2 minute halftime break.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

Firstly, there are Registration fees paid to the Club. These fees cover the cost of leasing training venues, Association registration, insurance, trophies, Club administration costs and GST.

The club offers the following discounts:

3 plus: for families with 3 or more players - the ‘3plus Fee’ is a 25% discount off the full registration fee and applies  for the 3rd and subsequent child(ren) being registered in that season.  It does not apply to multiple competition registrations for individual players (eg: 2 children playing both Friday and Saturday do not count as a 3rd and 4th child, no sibling discount offered).

Under 8: only pay $70 registration and playing singlets are provided for the season (An additional $20 deposit is charged for the loaned singlet.  This deposit will be refunded at the end of the season when the loaned singlet is returned).

In addition, each team pays a fee per game to the venue.  Playing charges are set by the Association and by venue owners to cover venue, competition and referee costs and are currently $35 per team per game, paid by the Team Manager from team funds collected from team families during the season. The amount each player has to contribute for the season will vary between seasons, depending on player numbers and number of games, but is usually $70 -$80.

 

Finally, on game day there is a $2.50 venue admission fee for all players and spectators over 12 years of age (spectators under 12 are free).

HOW LONG IS A SEASON?

Seasons vary a little, in accordance with school terms, but usually run as follows:

WINTER  SEASON

Terms 2 and 3

WHAT ABOUT UNIFORM?

Kangas uniform is Yellow and Black singlet and shorts.  The set costs approximately $90. Players requiring new uniforms should place orders IMMEDIATELY as uniforms can take up to four or five weeks from order to availability.

Please note - Under 8 players do not need to purchase a uniform as the Club will provide loan singlets for this season.  A small refundable deposit will be charged.

IS THERE TRAINING?

Midweek Teams

Undertake one training session in addition to the game, however our older Midweek girls (Under 18 & 23) usually do not train

Friday teams

Do not train, so the time commitment is only to the game each week.  (There are a very small number of Friday teams that do wish to train, at the discretion of the coach).

Saturday teams

Undertake one training session each week in addition to the game.

Training times are fixed each season on the basis of 1 hour per team between 5.00pm and 10.00pm, usually Wednesdays or Thursdays, with a small number of teams training on Monday or Tuesday.  Training sessions are mostly held at Forest Hill Secondary College, but we also use Nunawading Christian College, Mullauna Secondary College, Orchard Grove Primary School and Vermont Sportslink. The earlier time slots are allocated to younger teams and training is scheduled to accommodate girls' midweek playing times and coaches' commitments as priorities.  Efforts will be made to fit in with players' commitments, provided that these are advised with each season's registration.  However, with over 500 players, some clashes will occur and a player may have to choose between basketball and another activity.  Further, the Club has no control over playing times and venues - these are set by the Association with which we are affiliated.

HOW DO WE FIND OUT ABOUT OUR TEAM?

Each team is comprised of up to 8 players and is graded on ability and experience.  Any requests for team placement, eg with friends, must be submitted with registration.   Team details for the ensuing season are advised at the Club's Presentation Day after the Association finals.  Team Manager Kits are issued on that day and the Managers are responsible for advising each player prior to the commencement of the next season.  Team lists will also be posted on the Club website.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT

Kangas is a family club and expects parents to be involved in their children's basketball, including sharing scoring, team managing and hall supervision during training.  If you have experience in basketball and interested in coaching a team, that’s great too.  Finally, our Club is run by a small band of volunteers and we’re always eager for new members to contribute their skills and expertise.
