WWE Select '23 Visual Guide

Everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask about..

You asked, I delivered, we’re back with WWE Select ‘23!

Going forward from ‘22, to ‘23, to ‘24, you’re probably a bit relieved since there’s less cards in ‘24.. But since I made the ‘24 visual guide before ‘23, I’m sad to announce that if you were overwhelmed by ‘24’s 300 card base set, I’ve got some bad news for you, because WWE Select ‘23 has a four hundred card base set.

That’s right. 400 cards. 400 cards spread across four base sets. If you’re looking for some good news, there’s less parallels for most sets compared to ‘24.. I think. I dunno, I discovered some new potential Easter Egg parallels that weren’t in the original checklist, so I don’t even know what the official count is.

Anyway, let’s dive in.

Three things I want to stress before we dive in:

  1. There are no posted odds for this set in the checklist. In its place, I will be listing where you can find each card (to the best of my knowledge). I repeat: there are no posted odds for anything in Select.

  1. For this set, you’re going to need to focus on the set, then the parallel. There are four base sets: Concourse, Premier, Ringside, and Mezzanine. The designs will be the same on base cards within the set aside from the coloring and effects of the card. My goal with this list is for you to first easily identify the set, then identify the parallel.

  1. Some cards are only found in specific base parallels, so I encourage you to check the full checklist if you’re searching specifically for someone.
  2. Like with all Selects, the rarity of some parallels largely depends on the set. So the further down the checklist you go, the rarer the card, then if you have a parallel of that card, even better. So for instance, a silver Concourse will be far more common than a silver Ringside, which is a case hit. A die-cut Concourse will be far more common than a die-cue Mezzanine, etc.
  3. Case hits seem to come multiples to a box. That means if you hit one, you’re likely going to hit two. The case hits for this are all tiger (blaster) and zebra (hobby), silver Ringside, and color wheel.

I’m going to say this again because it’s so important.

First, determine the set, then determine the parallel. That means you need to see if it’s Concourse, Premier, Ringside, or Mezzanine, then determine the parallel.

Fast travel links:

Different versions of Select ‘23

This is a retail blaster. It retails for $29.99. These were available in Walmart, Target, etc. You can probably find them around still for inflated third party prices.

This is a hobby box. You’ll find it at a variety of prices, but current prices are around $300+ (and trending upwards since it’s no longer available).

5 cards per pack, 12 packs per box.

Each hobby box comes with two guaranteed autos and one guaranteed relic.

This is a FOTL, or First Off The Line box.

FOTL boxes are something unique Panini offers. They are sold dutch auction style on their website at a high price, dropping every 5 minutes until they sell out. IF you’re able to find one still on the market, expect to pay $700-$800. Maybe more.

FOTL boxes feature one Mojo base (Premier, Concourse, or Ringside) numbered to /7 in each box. These Mojo base cards are exclusive to FOTL boxes. For all intents and purposes, these are the same as hobby boxes with the inclusion of Mojo parallels. You’re more likely to hit lower numbered cards in FOTL boxes, though.

The design on the box is the same as the Hobby, but the FOTL sticker is hard to miss. Mojo cards are base set only, you can not pull a Mojo auto.

NOTE: It’s not entirely heard of to get two FOTL cards instead of 2 autos. RunGoodLife’s box had 2 FOTL cards and 1 auto instead of 2 autos. His auto was a red Liv Morgan though, so he can’t be too upset about it.

This is an international hobby box, or Tmall hobby box (I will refer to this as the International Hobby Box). You can almost think of it as a discounted hobby box. It retailed for around $125 (can you imagine?). 5 cards per pack, 12 packs per box. Autos are not guaranteed.

Red, Blue, and Gold wave inserts are exclusive to this set. These are also sometimes called “Shimmer” instead of Wave by online sellers, but those online sellers are incorrect.

Each pack seems to have either a wave base card/insert, or a silver prizm base card. All Gold Wave autos are numbered to /5.

Perhaps the most egregious offering of Select is the Lucky Envelope set. This was $200, but finding it now sealed will probably set you back more than this. I’m telling you now: it’s not worth it. Buy the singles.

This set is notable for containing two base cards, Concourse, Premier, or Ringside. No Mezzanine. No inserts, no autos. The cards are the exclusive Lucky Envelope parallel and numbered to 8. It is a high risk, high reward set. While this set likely doesn’t appeal to the casual collector, anyone looking to complete a rainbow is very familiar with it.

Lucky Envelope was distributed exclusively through one distributor, and apparently you had to buy a lot of the Tmall (International) hobby boxes to be able to buy some of the Lucky Envelopes, so these aren’t common to see in the wild or with breakers.

Literally $100 per card when these were released. Two base cards. Wild. Lot of people struck out with this. If you’re a high roller, go for it. Otherwise, buy the single you want.

As you'll notice, in comparison to ‘24 Select, ‘23 Select does not have a Mega Box offering, nor are there multiple versions of the blaster.

The Four Base Sets

The base set has four rarities: Concourse, Premier Level, Ringside, and Mezzanine. The first three are pullable in every product, either as Silver or Red and Blue. Ringside is the hardest to pull. Mezzanine is exclusive to blasters and only come in the base silver variety.

Here’s a look at the base cards in each set.

This is a Concourse base card. You’ll pull these the most. If you buy hobby boxes, you’ll pull silver, and if you buy retail, you’ll pull red/blue, but the Concourse parallel is the design you’ll most frequently see.

This is a Premier level base card. You’ll pull these less frequently, but they’re not really that rare aside from case hits and low numbered cards. Again, if you buy hobby boxes, you’ll pull silver, if you buy blasters, you’ll pull red/blue.

This is a Ringside base card. All the cards in this parallel are horizontal. Like the above sets, hobby has silver, blasters have red/blue. Ringside cards seem to fall one in every other blaster box. If you pull a parallel of a ringside, especially out of a blaster, it’s likely a big hit.

This is a Mezzanine base card. They are exclusive to blaster boxes. I believe these are all horizontal as well.

They do not come in the retail exclusive Red and Blue base set design, all the base cards are silver. There are also no Mojo or Lucky Envelope parallels of Mezzanine cards.

But wait. Before we go any further, there’s something you must know.

The difference between Hobby and Blaster base sets

Select is an absolutely massive set. Each set (Concourse, Premier Level, Ringside, and Mezzanine) has 100 cards, and each card has something like 23 parallels. So when someone says they’re going to “complete a rainbow”, they’re looking at 20 something cards, and that’s just across one set. But did you know.. there’s actually two completely separate sets of cards?

This is your standard silver (not to be confused with silver prizm, which give off a rainbow colored reflection) set. These cards are only found in hobby boxes, including the International and First off the Line hobby boxes. The four card examples I pictured above are from hobby boxes, with the exception of Mezzanine.

NOTE: The difference between base Silver and Silver Prizm is Silver Prizm will reflect as a rainbow pattern, regular base will not reflect any colors. As you can see in this image, it’s just regular shiny.

This is the red and blue set. These are the base cards that you’ll find only inside blasters.

NOTE: Mezzanine does not come in red and blue and will only be the regular silver, non-reflective base.

So if you’re a base set absolute completionist, you’re looking at collecting seven hundred cards:

  • Hobby, International, and First off the Line boxes:
  • Silver Concourse 0-100
  • Silver Premier Level 101-200
  • Silver Ringside 201-300
  • Blasters:
  • Red and Blue Concourse 0-100
  • Red and Blue Premier Level 101-200
  • Red and Blue Ringside 201-300
  • Silver Mezzanine 301-400

That’s why people only focus on one set when completing a rainbow.

Okay, so now that we know the four different levels of base cards, as well as the two sets, we’re ready for the..

Base Parallels

Keep in mind that these parallels look very similar across all sets, we just want to be able to recognize the type of card first (Concourse, Premier Level, Ringside, or Mezzanine), then we look at the parallel.

One more time.

Determine the set (Concourse, Premier, Ringside, or Mezzanine), then determine the parallel.

Final notes before we dive in..

I use the official terms for the parallels as listed in the checklist, but some other sets (outside of WWE) refer to them as different things. As such, you may see some people online refer to Waves as “Shimmer” on eBay.

Also:

  • Wave parallels are exclusive to International Hobby Boxes
  • Flash parallels are exclusive to Hobby Boxes
  • Cracked Ice parallels do not exist in ‘23 Select
  • If a Flash version of a parallel exists, the regular version won’t be in blasters. For example, Orange and Gold aren’t in blasters, but Orange Flash and Gold Flash are. Make sense? Good.

Don’t worry, this isn’t the last time you’ll hear me say this. I repeat myself a lot to drill the information into you.

Ringside

Numbers 201-300 in the set

NOTE: There are certain superstars that are only available in the Ringside parallel. Some names here include Mustafa Ali, Zelina Vega, Indi Hartwell, Uncle Howdy (rookie!), Blue Meanie, “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan (he’s just the Red & Yellow Hogan in other sets) and more. Check out the full text checklist for everyone included in the set.

Orange Flash Prizm

Red Wave Prizm

Exclusive to International Hobby Boxes

Silver Prizm

Exclusive to Hobby Boxes

Note: Silver Ringsides are a case hit

In 2023 Select, if you hit a Silver Ringside, it means a Zebra was also in the same box as they put multiple case hits in the same box. Same with Color Wheel and Zebra. That’s not true for 2024.

Remember, it’s not a silver prizm if there’s no rainbow reflection.

Silver Prizm Die-Cut

These are not numbered. These are extremely SSP and very difficult to come across. These are not case hits as they are much, much more rare than a case hit.

NOTE: Ringside Die-Cut is the only SSP, Concourse and Premier are more common.

Die-cut Ringsides are extremely rare, and the print run is rumored to be 2.

Inserts

I’m going to be honest with you guys, because if I can’t be honest with you, who can I be honest with? I hate the Snapshots insert. HATE it. It looks so much like a tier of base card. Probably why they got rid of it in ‘24.

Now it’s time for everyone’s favorite part..

Autos & Relics

There are a few disclaimers before we move on to the autos and relics section.

First, some superstars aren’t available in specific parallels for whatever reason. This was noted on the checklist, and I’m including the exclusions here as well in the text checklist at the bottom. Next, they have some specific autos that are only available in a certain parallel. It’s all a little much, but don’t worry, I got you, we’ll get through this together.

Also, unlike Topps with their Chrome set,, all of Panini’s regular sets (Panini, Revolution, Select, Chronicles, etc) feature sticker autos. Only their high end sets have on-card autos.

If you’re not familiar, there’s two types of autos, stickers and on-card. The former makes more sense for companies pumping out a lot of sets as they can just send sheets of stickers, the star signs them, and the company uses them on whatever product. However, with Topps, they either ship cards to the star, or they fly out to the bigger events (like Wrestlemania) to get signatures on the card. Not all of Panini’s retail sets had sticker autos, though, as the NXT Alumni parallel in the NXT 2.0 set had some on-card autos. All this to say is that with Select, you should expect a sticker auto.

Also, keep in mind the general parallel rules here:

  • Flash parallels are in Blasters
  • Wave parallels are in International
  • If a Flash of a parallel exists, the regular won’t be in blasters. So you won’t find Gold /10 in blasters (only in Hobby), but you’ll find Gold Flash /10 or Gold Flash /5 in blasters. Similarly in base, you won’t find Orange parallels in Blasters, but you’ll find Orange Flash. Make sense? Good.

And once again, just like Chrome, if you’re unsure of the parallel you pull, look at the numbers. Gold Prizms will be /10, Tie-Dye /25, etc, it all depends on the parallel. I’m also gonna add dashes to the parallels to make it a little easier to read since we’re adding things to some lines.

NOTE: Panini usually does patches a bit differently in larger sets in that if you hit a base, a /49, or a /35, etc you’re likely going to see a single color (red, white, black, etc.) patch. As you get in the lower numbers like /25 and /10, you start seeing actual bits of the shirt used. I’ve included the second picture so you can see what I mean.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can you explain a little more about the exclusives?

A: Sure.

So with some card sets like Pokemon, you can pull anything regardless of what you buy. If you buy an elite trainer box, a single hanger pack, etc., it doesn’t matter, they’re all booster packs. That’s not the case with wrestling cards. What you buy matters. You simply cannot pull some cards if you buy a blaster box, and conversely, you can’t pull some cards if you buy a hobby box. You’re not going to find a color wheel in a blaster, you’re not going to pull a Firestorm in a hobby box.

It’s a little hard to determine where certain things are exclusive to with the base parallels (especially those middle ground numbered cards, the /75, /150, etc), but these are the things I know for certain:

  • All “WAVE” parallels are exclusive to the International Editions
  • All “MOJO” parallels are exclusive to the FOTL box
  • All “Lucky Envelope” parallels are exclusive to the Lucky Envelope box
  • Orange Flash is exclusive to Blasters
  • Firestorm is exclusive to both Blasters
  • Color Wheel is exclusive to Hobby boxes
  • Tiger Case Hits are exclusive to Blasters
  • Zebra Case Hits are exclusive to Hobby Boxes and FOTL
  • Artistic Selections Case Hits are exclusive to International Hobby Boxes
  • Red and Blue base (non-Prizm) are exclusive to Blasters
  • Silver base is exclusive to Hobby boxes

Q: What’s the difference between Hobby and First off the Line boxes?

A: The mojo hit. That’s it. You’re not guaranteed anything additional beyond what the hobby box guarantees. You can hit two Mojo cards per box, but you should expect one. The Mojo can be a Concourse, Premier, or Ringside. There are no Mezzanine Mojo cards. While the Prizm set does have Mojo autos (/25), Select does not. The Mojo card will always be a base card. There are no Mojo autos in Select. There are a few eBay auctions listed as Mojo Select autos, but thanks to this visual guide, you should be able to quickly tell that they’re mislabeled. You should hope for a Ringside Mojo of someone exclusive to the Ringside set, like the Uncle Howdy rookie pictured above.

Q: What should I buy if..

I’m on a budget?

If you can find them, a blaster. Hope for a Firestorm or a Gold flash or something numbered to /10. Or, if you’re extremely lucky, a Tiger.

I have no budget?

Then it’s gonna come down to three options.

  • First off the Line - This is your most expensive option. I actually think I would recommend against this. You’re looking at basically a $700+ hobby box with a fancy base card or two. Could you strike it big and make some your money back? Absolutely. But it’s not likely.
  • International edition - This is actually the box that gets my vote, and after doing this checklist, I think I might go pick up a box of it. You get multiple blue, red, and potentially gold wave inserts, and I think they’re beautiful. The autos can be waves, but autos are not guaranteed. Gold wave /10 inserts have consistently been selling higher than Mojo inserts for the simple fact that they’re just beautiful looking cards. However, there is no possibility to hit 1/1 cards in this product. I hate the phrasing, but this is probably the best “bang for your buck” product in the Select line.
  • Hobby Box - Still a solid choice, but these are pushing $300+ now. Two autos and a relic don’t suck, but if you hit a redemption, there’s a possibility you might be out of luck (see below).
  • Lucky Envelope - I don’t think I could recommend against a product more. This is a high risk, high reward product. No inserts, no autos, no relics. Two base cards. That’s it. They can be Concourse, Premier, or Ringside. There are no Mezzanine Lucky Envelope cards. Fortunately, these are very hard to find right now, so you won’t be tempted to spend your money.

Q: What’s the difference between Hobby and International boxes?

A: Hobby has two autos and a memorabilia/relic card, International has multiple wave inserts. The auto can be a wave insert. You also have the potential to hit the Artistic Selections case hit, which, in my opinion, looks way better than the color wheel case hit from hobby boxes.

Q: What if I pull a redemption?

A: You’re almost definitely completely out of luck. Select ‘23 redemptions expired in October 2024, and Panini doesn’t honor expired redemptions. You can try to redeem it then contact them, but there’s a solid chance they won’t do anything about it, especially since they don’t even have the WWE license anymore. Sorry.
