Dear Mr. de Laszlo,
The “Horses of St. Marks’s” [11636] arrived here in perfect condition and is again on the Gallery walls. We were very proud that it should have been chosen for such a splendid exhibition,[1] but are glad to have it back again to its home.
The portraits of Mr. & Mrs. Robertson [4149][6805] and Mrs. Munro Stevenson [10031] are still supporting the portrait of Lord Provost High [5637], and though the group has become the most admired one in our Gallery, I’m afraid Mrs. Stevenson, especially, will soon be requesting the return of her portrait [10031]. She has been kind indeed to let us have it so long.
I was interested to see the illustration of your portrait of Mr. Lloyd George [6076] and yourself in today’s paper.[2] Recalled pleasant recollections of your visit to Dundee.
With kind regards, | Yours very sincerely,
A.S. Webster
Chief Librarian.

[2] See ‘Painting of “D.L.G” for the Commons’, Western Mail, 4 July 1931, p. 12. Hudson Ewbanke Kearley, 1st Viscount Devonport (1856-1934) [4571] commissioned a formal portrait of David Lloyd George from de László [6076]. The artist also painted a study portrait of Lloyd George [6072], also dated 1931, which now hangs in the Palace of Westminster.
