CHARING CROSS HOSPITAL,
LONDON, W.C.2.
CENTENARY APPEAL. 9th December, 1932.
Dear Mr. de Laszlo,
I have just heard from Lord Lonsdale[1] of your very generous action in presenting a blank canvas [10040] for the Hospital at the Banquet of Humour which is being held in aid of the above Appeal at the Grosvenor House, Park Lane, on December 14th.[2]
It is indeed one of the greatest honours that our Hospital has had bestowed upon it during my term of Governorship, and I envy the fortunate person who secures the privilege of having his portrait painted by so world-famous an artist.[3]
I am also very glad to hear that you are going to the Dinner personally, and hope to thank you on that occasion for your kindness.
Yours faithfully,
Philip A. Inman
House Governor.

[3] The successful bidder at 300 guineas was Frank William Thring (see DLA137-0013, Daily Herald, 15 December 1932, p. 9), who commissioned de László to paint a portrait of his wife Olive, née Kreitmeyer, on the blank canvas [10040].
