Updates and Reminders for the week ending 9.20.24

This Week We…

Math: Students bundled straws into friendly groups of ones, tens, and hundreds.  We also used counting strategies to solve “add to with change unknown” word problems, such as straw bundles and number lines.

ELA:
We read the new story “A Color of His Own”.  Students answered the question “How does the chameleon change?” using evidence from the text, and adding a topic sentence to start their paragraphs.

Phonics:  Students completed unit 3 in Fundations, focusing on exceptions to the closed syllable: -old, -ild, -ind, -olt, -ost.

Science/ Social Studies: We began our new unit in Social Studies, Me on the Map!

Social Emotional Learning (SEL): We began celebrating National Hispanic Month!

Next Week We Will…

Math: We will count to 1,000 by using place value units.  Students will also write three-digit numbers in unit form, expanded form, and word form.

ELA:
We will start a new story “How do leaves change?”  Students will begin to answer the question “How does weather impact leaves in the fall?” using a graphic organizer.  Students will also be adding a conclusion to their paragraphs.

Phonics:  Students will start Unit 4 this week, adding suffixes to the end of base words.  Suffixes this week will be: -s, -es, -ed, -ing, -er, -est.

Science/ Social Studies: We will continue our “Me on the Map” unit.  Students will be able to determine and locate their city/county, state, country, continent, and finally planet.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL): Continuing our learning of Hispanic Month, students will read the first picture book writing by a DACA Dreamer, Areli Morales.  She tells in her own words her powerful immigration story.
