Schroeder YMCA Swim Team

  1. First Annual “CASH FOR THE HOLIDAYS” Raffle:

Why are we doing a raffle?  It is a legitimate question.  The 501 C3 non-profit corporation, the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center has finished in the red the last 2 years after finishing in the black in 2011.  To attract and retain high quality coaches, pay down our bank loan before the new UW Madison pool comes online in 2019 and meet annual operational expenses we have to increase revenue.

The raffle is a step in the plan to meet our financial goals.   It will help keep our programs strong and ensure that the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center continues to serve future generations.  Please consider taking additional tickets to sell!

2. Raffle News Update:

We’ve had over 1,500 additional raffle tickets picked up by Schroeder South families.  Thanks to everyone who continues to go above and beyond their required number of tickets.

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, please make sure you’re well stocked with tickets for those family gatherings.  Any suggestions you have for selling more tickets, please email Ann White (awhite@wsacltd.org) and I’ll include a new tip each week in the newsletter.  For instance during Bay View’s trick-or-treat, while Ann gave out candy, Bob sold 22 raffle tickets to the parents.  So let’s hear your creative ideas!

Remember, you can drop off your ticket stubs to the coaches before or after practice.  Coaches always have extra tickets with them so just let them know when you need more, and keep up the great work!

3. South Think Tank (SSTT) - Come Join Us Mon., Nov. 3rd:

All are welcome. It’s a great way to meet other parents, give your input, and help strengthen our team.

There are a number of topics to be discussed such as a winter/spring parent and/or swimmer social events, swimmer recognition ideas, a team picture…

We’re meeting Monday, November 3rd at 6:30 p.m. at Front Room Photo, 2637 S. Kinnickinnic Ave, Bay View.  A big thanks to the Laber family for offering their beautiful studio space to host the meeting.

4. YMCA National Championship Info:

The following info is for all S1 & J1 families who have swimmers with Y National cuts, or are close to achieving cuts.

All swimmers who have qualified or are close to qualifying for Y Nationals need to declare their intent regarding the meet which will help with both training and travel plans.  You can do so by choosing commit or decline as you do for other meets on our website.

There is no meet information available at this time (except time standards), but we do know the meet will again be in Greensboro, NC, March 30 - April 3, 2015.

Intent is not final and can be changed, but we do need to begin to get a handle on numbers to hold rooms, etc.  It’s also important for Bob to know a swimmer's intent so he can plan which meet will be each swimmer's final taper meet.

5. Schroeder South Winter Session Practice Schedule Posted:

The week by week SS practice Schedule is now posted on our website for 12/14/14 - 4/4/15. As always, it’s subject to change due to any of our facilities needing to change pool availability or other factors such as weather.  Please remember if any of the schools close because of weather, all scheduled practices at the school that day are automatically cancelled.  You will be notified by email when changes occur, and the week by week schedule will be immediately updated.  Also keep in mind practices are not always the same week to week, so it’s always a good idea to check the schedule each week.

BIG NEWS FOR AG3, S8, SCHROEDER STARS AND SUPER STARS!!

Because SS has secured the use of the Cudahy Middle School pool, we are excited to offer practices for AG3, Super 8’s and the Star Groups at both the Cudahy and Greendale pools for the winter session.  Swimmers can select which site is more convenient for them and train at that site.  Swimmers should choose one site or the other and attend practices at that site for their group.

We feel this makes it much more convenient for swimmers in these groups to attend practice on a regular basis.  Even though swimmers will choose either Cudahy or Greendale as their home base training location, the other benefit of offering these groups at two locations on different days is that if a swimmer has a conflict with a practice at his/her location, the swimmer will be allowed to make up that practice at the other location on a different day.  To maintain continuity between the two locations, Coach Becky will be the lead coach at both locations for all of the groups.  If you have any questions about this, contact Coach Becky.

On the schedule, each location will be designated as C = Cudahy and GD = Greendale.  For example there will be an AG3 - C line and an AG3 - GD line for each week.

We know this will enhance our ability to grow the program from the bottom up.  Please help us spread the word with friends and neighbors who might have children interested in competitive swimming and practicing close to home.

6. Signing Up For Meets On Your Swimmer’s Meet Schedule:

To enter a meet, click on the swim team home page, and scroll down to the list of meets.  Click on “Attend/Decline” for the meet (enter password if necessary).  Then click on Undeclared Athletes, scroll to your swimmer’s name, click on the name, commit (put yes) in the declaration box, and click on the save changes box.

Once the swimmer is committed, you may choose the swimmer’s events or have the coach choose the events (recommended).

If your swimmer cannot attend, follow the previous steps and put no in the declaration box.  Please use the message box to explain why the swimmer is not participating, and then click on the save changes box.

If you have questions, do not hesitate to ask.
