Welcome to the blog of the Democratic Women’s Club of Upper Pinellas County, which supplements information about club and member activities which appears on our Facebook page.  We are particularly proud that we are the oldest Democratic women's club in the country and that we remain a vibrant, contributing part of Democratic politics in Pinellas County and Florida.

Typically, our meetings are held at the Safety Harbor Library on the fourth Monday of each month, starting at 11:00 am and ending at approximately 1:00 pm.  A light repast is offered during the social segment of the meeting – often, pizza at a cost of $5 per person.

Our next several meetings in 2014 are scheduled for June 23rd, July 28th and August 25th. Meeting dates will appear on this blog and on our Facebook page.

Each meeting includes an invited guest speaker.  Some are persons of individual note, such as our May guest, Rob Lorei of WMNF radio and the host of  "Florida This Week" carried on local educational television.  Other speakers give presentations on matters of civic interest or community projects, such as speakers who addressed the Greenlight Pinellas proposal for broadening county public transportation or the upcoming speakers from Awake Pinellas, a group of which organizes and supports socially progressive projects in our county.

Our meetings permit presentations by Democratic candidates, as well as candidates running in non-partisan races.  Candidates should  request a speaking spot on a meeting agenda by contacting me.

We also have occasional non-meeting activities, such as a recent luncheon cruise along the Clearwater waterways and – several months earlier – a one-man show re-enacting dramatic events in the political life of JFK.  These events give us an opportunity to deepen our political bonds and relationships.

In this blog, you will find posts on our meetings, our projects, and member’s reflections and calls for action.  We also hope to be launching a workshop or two, so please watch for announcements of alternate activities.

And, as we begin our blog on this Memorial Day weekend of 2014, we salute present and past members of the armed services and those who cherish and support them or their memories of them.

We hope you will find this blog enjoyable and join our Democratic ranks!

Best wishes,

Victoria Najjar, President
