StarID: 6 Simple Steps to a Successful Conversion

Step 1: ACTIVATE and SYNC |
You MUST do the following:
- Reset your campus password to a password you have NEVER used before.
- Activate your StarID (if you haven’t already done so) and synchronize your StarID password with your campus password. Details for doing this can be found below.
NOTE: You will need your MSU TechID to complete this step. If you do not know or forgot your TechID, call the Registration Help Center at 507-389-2252 or use the Online TechID Lookup. If you forgot your TechID password, you can request to have your TechID password reset by contacting the Registration Help Center at 507-389-2252 or use the Online TechID password reset.

A. In a web browser, navigate to https://my.mnsu.edu/account/ to reset your campus password. |

B. Type in your “TechID” and your “Tech ID password”.
NOTE: If you forgot your TechID, call the Registration Help Center at 507-389-2252 or use the Online TechID Lookup. If you forgot your TechID password, you can request to have your TechID password reset by contacting the Registration Help Center at 507-389-2252 or use the Online TechID password reset. |

C. Click “Change campus password” | 
|
D. Type in a new password (one you have never used before) using all the requirements listed on the right. Then, verify your new password. | 
|
E. If you have fulfilled the password requirements, click “Submit Password Change” | 
|
F. If it was successful, you will receive a message stating so. If not, go back to step D above. Click “Log out”.

G. In web browser, navigate to http://starid.mnscu.edu. The StarID web page will load.

H. Click the “Activate StarID” link. The Activate StarID page will load. |

I. Select the TechID option appropriate for your position at the University. - Students will select “Tech ID (Student ID)” under the “Students” header.
- Faculty and staff will choose “TechID (Employee ID)” under the “Employees” header.
- The second page of the StarID Activation wizard will load.

J. Put your personal information into the form. - In the “School field”, select “Minnesota State University, Mankato” from the alphabetical dropdown menu.
- Put your eight-digit TechID in the “TechID” field.
- Finally, type your social security number of the “Social Security Number” field. (This field is submitted in a secure way.)
- Click the “Continue” button.

K. A confirmation screen will appear with your new StarID. - Please write this down so you will remember it! This is the username you will use to access all of your campus services after you are converted.
- Type in a password. To avoid challenges with the conversion process, it is critical that you make your StarID password match your MNSU email password.
- Read and, if you agree, select the checbox accepting MNSCU board policy 5.22.
- Click the “Continue” button.

Your StarID is now activated and your password is synched! You’re ready for step 2: Scheduling your StarID conversion.
Step 2: Schedule a Conversion Date: Faculty Only |
- What's it mean? Faculty can schedule their conversion for a time that is convenient for them during the month of November. Note that you may experience some complications as you uncover new and as yet unreported issues, which may take some time to resolve.
- How do I do it? DETAILS WILL BE COMING SOON.
- What's it mean? On your scheduled date for conversion, ITS will automatically convert you. Please note that if you have not completed Step 1 above, you'll likely experience significant challenges and complications.
- How do I do it? This will happen automatically. There is nothing actionable on your part.
- What's it mean? This is the hardest part of the process. For any systems that are entirely web/cloud-based (such as D2L), you shouldn't have any configuration issues. However, any applications on your devices (desktops, laptops, tablets, mobiles, etc.) that store a username or password will need to be reconfigured. This will likely include some of the staple services on campus such as MavNet, your email client (if you use one), MavPrint, and others.
- How do I do it? Refer to the online matrix for some of the standard configurations and ways to get yourself configured with some of the staple ITS services. Note that not *all* systems or configurations are represented here. If your system is not represented, please contact the Service Desk, 507-389-6544, servicedesk@mnsu.edu.
- What's it mean? Once you're converted, there's no going back. Embrace it and use it! Your new StarID is your single way to sign onto all MSU services and most MNSCU Services.
- How do I do it? Use the username and password you created in STEP 1 above to access all of your campus systems.
- What's it mean? Confused? Unable to get something working? That's understandable. A process this massive is going to have some bumps in the road. Don't panic! We're here to help.
- How do I do it? ITS will have a robust suite of support services deployed on campus during the conversion and well into Spring 2014 semester to help you out. We want to be your campus partners in resolving issues with the conversion quickly and efficiently.
