Tax Forms Schedule:
Allow 2 weeks after the dates below to receive forms by mail
If you have any accounts that are NOT IRA's you should wait until mid-March to submit your tax returns to avoid having to file an amended return in the future. There are strategies to change the tax type of NonQualified accounts to avoid the delay to mid-March, schedule an appointment if you'd like to discuss.
January 31st – Tax forms for distributions from retirement accounts including IRA's & Roth IRA's are mailed and available online
March 15th – Tax forms for distributions & gains on NonQualified accounts are mailed and available online
April 15th - Tax forms for contributions to retirement accounts including IRA's & Roth IRA's are mailed and available online. You need to give contribution information to your accountant BEFORE these forms come out. If you need confirmation of contributions or to make last minute prior year contributions to a retirement account please let us know before April 1st
RMD's (Required Minimum Distributions)
· The IRS recently increased the RMD age from 70 ½ to 73
· Starting in late October we will review all IRA accounts for our age 73+ clients & if RMD's are not complete we will be contacting you to make sure the requirement is satisfied before 12/31
· Many companies will send out RMD notices and if you have multiple IRA's you may receive multiple notices
· You do not have to take RMD's out of each account: if you have multiple IRA's you can take your total RMD out of a single account or split the RMD in any way you wish
· If you have been with us for a few years and are over 73 we likely have your RMD's set up to happen automatically
· You do not have to withdrawal or spend your RMD if you don't need it, it can be re-invested but it must come out of your IRA
