Because of several issues relating to the Tournament schedule, the captains of the teams which earned their way into the playoffs decided to relax the “No Substitute in the Playoffs” rule to allow any team to use a substitute as the team individually decides is needed. The captain can chose the sub, with the approval of the Bocce League “Commish” (currently Bob Mills), with the intent to have, as nearly as possible, equality in skill levels of the sub and the player not playing.
The sub being used is deemed a member of the team and can be used throughout the playoffs, for any complete match. The intention here is to not allow a sub for one game and then substitute for the sub with a regular team member in the same match and to not allow a different sub in either the same or a different match. The sub cannot be any member of another team playing in the playoff tournament.
The result of this decision allows the playoff game schedule as published Thursday March 2nd and circulated to the team captains and the Village Green general community to be in effect, with the playoff teams as listed.
Now for the real news!! Dorado, team #7, captained by Rosemary Rosengren (team members Bernie and Shirley Kilgore and sub member Ray McLevish) defeated Snook, team #13 captained by Shirley Eggermont (with team members Pat Peters, Pat Francis and sub Joe McGorry) in 2 straight games, 11 - 7, and 11 - 6. They try to continue their winning ways in Sunday’s 1:00 pm game seeded #6 against the #3 seed, team #6 Dolphin, lead by captain Janet Breloff, with team members Pete Breloff, Louise Koch and Bob Koch.

The second match of the quarterfinals pits seed #5, Blackdrum (captained by Jacqueline Finn and members Bob Mills, Al & Bernice Ulrich) against seed #4, Flounder, (captained by Gene Capoccia, with team members Melissa Capoccia, Antonio Gagliardi, and Eric Svensson. This match begins at 3:00 pm. See you on the court.
