Car riders may drop off children starting at 7:00am at the gym doors (west side of school along Richmond Drive). In the afternoon, you will pick up from this same location; the car rider tags allow us to announce your child’s number to have them ready so make sure they know it!
SAFETY: Please wait in the car line (even if you don’t have a car rider number) to avoid children having to cross the pick-up line of car traffic; parents parking near the car line in the afternoon and crossing traffic to get their children create an unsafe situation. We are afraid a child may get injured in this area running into the parking lot. Parent/student walkers should always use the cross walks located on Richmond Drive.
Always turn right out of the back parking lot in the mornings and afternoons. The car rider line creates a horrible blind spot and we don’t want a collision with child or car!
School supplies are not required on the first day of school. Just bring a pen or pencil and some paper. We follow the JCPS school supplies list: box of colored pencils, pen, pencils, loose leaf paper, 7 two-pocket folders and notebooks (2 compositions and 5 spiral).
Your child will not need a backpack during the first two weeks of school so please do not bring backpacks until we issue lockers.
Be sure to review the expectations listed in the Student Handbook. http://schools.jefferson.kyschools.us/Middle/Highland/pdfs/handbook.pdf

Site-Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council
Our SBDM Council has elected to change our current schedule from a six-period day to a seven-period day to (a) reduce class sizes and (b) offer more related arts and core-content elective courses for students. We see this as the next great step at making learning time more meaningful and individualized with the smaller class sizes. We are also excited to provide a range of related arts and electives (taught by core content teachers) to make learning more exciting and aligned with developing the IB learner profile of all our students.
The Highland SBDM Council regularly meets on the second Wednesday of every month in the library from 2:45-4:00. The Highland SBDM Council is a policy-making body that oversees administrative policies, staffing and budget. Your SBDM parent representative can be another resource for you to share ways you would like to see Highland continuously improve.
You may contact your SBDM Parent representatives: Tiffany Baker (email@example.com), Joy Jacobs-Lawson (firstname.lastname@example.org), Ollie Parker (email@example.com), and Cristy Plank (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Your teacher and administrative representatives are: Thomas Aberli, Janae Bartleson, Philip Dunnagan, Tua Gravatte, Tamira Kimbley, Jean Maclean, and Tonya Coleman.
