ST. STEPHEN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER & UPDATE
Healthy Hearts, Caring Minds
March 21, 2017
In this issue
God of kindness and love, be with us today and throughout this new school year. Shower us with your compassion and mercy. Help us to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the schoolyard, in our classrooms and in our homes. We know that we are Sent to be the Good News. Help us to do this every day. We make this prayer in the name of Jesus, our teacher and brother. Amen.
Gospel Values Assembly
On Friday, March 31st, we will be holding a Gospel Values Assembly, at 10:05am in the gym. We will be presenting certificates to students in Grades 1 to 6 who were selected from each class as students who demonstrate the need for, and importance of, justice and dignity of the person in their daily actions.
School Council Meeting
The St. Stephen Catholic School Council will be holding their next meeting on Wednesday, March 29th. All interested parents are welcome to attend the meeting, which will begin in the school staff room at 6:30pm. More information about the council can be found at: http://ste.ocsb.ca/catholic-school-council.
World Water Day
Wednesday, March 22nd, is World Water Day. Wear blue to celebrate with us. In our class we are learning that water is very important. Water keeps us alive. Plants and animals depend on water to grow and be healthy. Even though the world is covered in water, only a small amount of that water is freshwater. We are lucky in Stittsville to have clean water for drinking, cleaning and growing our food. Many people in the world are not as lucky as we are. We need to make smart decisions about how we use our water in our home and in our schools. Please take our Family Water Day Survey and set a goal for conserving water in your home!
Mrs. Buccino’s Grade 2/3 Class
This year, for our Lenten project, we will be raising money for the Shepherds of Good Hope. Here is more information about our project and the Alms calendar that you can follow. Thanks for your support.
Scientists in School
The Grade 1 and Grade 2 classes are very fortunate to have “Scientists in School” presentations and activities next week. Grade 2 students will explore simple machines on Monday, March 27th. Grade 1 students will examine energy on Wednesday, March 29th and there will be more workshops for classes from both grades on Thursday, March 30th. The cost of these interesting and informative activities are covered by the student activity fees.
A reminder to parents that Kindergarten registration at our school is ongoing. If you have a child who is turning four during 2017 you can stop by our office and register your child for 2017-18 school year. We look forward to seeing you!
