Items on this menu are grade level appropriate with some extension and some review.  

Cereal Math

Scoop a cup (20 or fewer pieces) of different colored cereal, or other colored objects.

  • Sort by color.
  • Make a table of your data including the following categories.
  • Color
  • Fraction
  • 3 Equivalent fractions
  • Equivalent decimal
  • What fraction of each color do you have? Name an equivalent fraction.
  • Write each fraction as a decimal.

Measurement

Using a standard unit of measurement (feet/inches) or a non-standard unit of measurement (hand/foot) find the area and perimeter of a room or outdoor space.

  • Perimeter is the distance around the outside.
  • Area is the space in the middle.

After you have measured, answer these questions.

  • Which is greater?
  • By how much?
  • If you measure another space, do you think the same will be true?  Try it and see.

Junk Mail Word Problem

Select a picture, graph, advertisement, restaurant menu from junk mail, a newspaper or a magazine. Write a word problem to represent what is being shown.
