PURPOSE: The Grand Strand Alumni Chapter of South Carolina State University aims to provide financial support to college bound high school seniors who have demonstrated academic achievement, display financial need and express a genuine interest in pursuing higher education at South Carolina State University (SCSU).
SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
- Eligible students must be a graduating high school senior who reside and attend school within the Horry or Georgetown County School District AND have the intention of continuing their education at SCSU the semester immediately following the announcement of the award.
- The selection process will consider academic performance, financial need and the student’s record of community service.
- Interested students will be required to submit a completed application that includes at least 10 hours of community service. Application will be provided by the Grand Strand Alumni Chapter of SCSU.
- The applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and include an unofficial transcript with their application, followed by a submission of an official transcript upon graduation.
SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES
- The applicant must submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher they have had during their high school matriculation with their completed application.
- The applicant must provide documentation of participating in extracurricular activities either school related or in the community.
- The applicant must write an essay of at least 200 words regarding their interests, intended major and how the scholarship will benefit him/her.

Scholarship Award: The minimum scholarship award is $500 and will be awarded in May of the academic year. Scholarship money will be disbursed directly to the institution on behalf of the student awardee. This scholarship is non-renewable.
