Our grandparents, Joe and Anna Bombassaro are first generation Americans born of immigrant parents.  Joe’s parents and two oldest siblings immigrated from Belloiu, Italy.  They settled in Irwin, Pennsylvania, where great-grandfather worked in the coal mines.

Anna’s parents, from Zagreb and Lublijana, Yugoslavia, came to America as teenagers in 1912 and 1913 seeking the wealth of the New World.  They lived with friends on Pittsburgh’s North Side while working at the Heinz Pickling Plant.  They married in 1913.

Anna’s parents later moved to Beadling, Pennsylvania, to work in the coal mines and raise a family.  Joe’s parents also moved to Beadling to work in the mines.

Both were born in Beadling - Joe in 1913, Anna in 1915.  They were childhood sweethearts, went to the same schools, churches, and community functions.  They married in 1936, had two children, Dauna, born in 1936, and Joanne, born in 1938.

Joe left the mines after 10 years to work for Cyclops Corporation (Bridgeville, Pennsylvania).  He retired in 1976 after a 35 year tenure.  Anna had the very important job of raising the children and keeping a happy home.

Joe was active in soccer having played for ten years and managed for several more.  He is in the Beadling Sports Club Hall of Fame.

Joe and Anna are living a quiet life in Beadling, enjoying good health and many years of marriage.  As of this writing they have five grandchildren and one great-grandchild who love them very much.
