Hearthstone Update: Upcoming Changes

Aratil dropped a bomb on the official forums today:

“The amount of gold gained by winning games in Play mode per day will be capped at 100 in the upcoming patch. This cap does not affect gold gained through Quests, Arena, or Achievements. There will be an indication within the game when this gold cap is reached. This cap is intended to combat certain methods of gold acquisition that violate our Terms of Service.”

Shattered Sun Cleric is now a 3/2 (was a 3/3)

Argent Commander is now a 4/2 (was a 4/3)

These cards are quite good for their cost, and they currently feel to be slightly above the curve in power compared to cards of a similar cost and type. Players end up choosing these cards for their deck much more often than other cards at the same mana cost. We want to increase the variety of cards being played at 3 and 6 mana.

Flame Imp’s Battlecry now deals 3 damage (up from 2)

Warlocks have a very strong early game, and this small change to Flame Imp should help a small amount. There are other cards that help the Warlock maintain early board advantage, and we’re keeping a close eye on those as time goes on.

Mind Control’s mana cost is now 10 (up from 8)

Mind Control has some pretty accurate flavor text … perhaps a little too accurate. Raising the mana cost will allow players to have a couple more turns to play with their big minions.

Starving Buzzard is now a 2/1 (was a 2/2)

At some ranks, Hunter was a bit strong versus Druids, Mages and Rogues. This change to Starving Buzzard will help even the playing field against those classes in particular.

Unleash the Hounds has been reworked and now reads: “(4) For each enemy minion, summon a 1/1 Hound with Charge”.

The old version of Unleash the Hounds was allowing for Hunters to win in a single turn, starting with no minions on the board. The new version adds some fun, new card combos to Hunters and helps with their ability to AoE.

2P CN vs NA Grand Finals

Red won the 1st set. Lost the 2nd to an anti-aggro Druid deck.
Couldn’t wait for idipinyurink to lose. Dear god his stream was terrible.
Both teams went down to their 4th player.
Congrats to the NA team. Leroy finisher!

Strategy

How the hell do you beat a mage?!!!

Let’s all add to this. I’ll start…

1. Wait out your timer and hope they concede. (j/k please don’t do this)

2. avoid weapon trading if at all possible as your life total actually matters against them.

3. try not to over commit to the board to avoid losing multiple card to aoe.

4. heal yourself past their burn spell range. If a mage drew and played all of their direct damage it would be 46 damage. However, that’s hard to do so they need to get some damage from their minions. avoid that and give yourself more life, you win.

5. figure out what type of mage early and adjust. Basically, there is aggro minion mage, freeze mage and giant mage/freeze mage. If you see a coldlight oracle it’s a freeze mage, a raging worgen or shattered sun cleric means an aggro minion mage, and obviously a mountain giant means giant/freeze.

6. kill them before they kill you. simple.

I got none so let’s share this guy’s story:

Warlock v Pally. Pally was at 4 health and I was at 7 health. I had Lorewalker Cho, a Leper Gnome on the board along with one other card. The Pally had a Truesilver Champion equipped, and had three cards on the board. He had taunt on the board with an Argent Defender, It was the Pally's turn, and just plays the card that was just top decked. It was a secret and I guess the Pally wasn't thinking about Lorewalker Cho being on the board because it come right up as Eye for an Eye! So, he hits my Leper Gnome with the True Silver Champion healing himself for two while taking the two for the hit and then the additional two for the deathrattle leaving him with two health and hitting me for two with Eye for an Eye. He then cleared my only threat on the board and hit me for two in the face leaving me with only 3 health. I top decked something unspectacular, but played the Eye for an Eye that Lorewalker Cho had given me. I Life Tapped dealing two damage to my self taking me to one health, which activated Eye for an Eye dealing two damage to the Pally which was lethal and won me the game!

See Eye for an Eye isn't a bad card, it just needs to be a Warlock card and not a Pally card!!!

Second arena match with a mage deck, go up against this super rush warrior deck. Guy gets me down to 4 after turn 5, spams “Well Played” like a douche, then runs out of cards and I beat him on turn 10 with a 1 3 Mirror Image buffed with a Stormwind Champion. Suck it! Also it was my 100th win!

Note: Drteeth wrote a reall nice email thanking us for the show. He’s be waiting for some major surgery on his neck so he’s been up at 5am his time in the UK watching Dills’ stream. He just had his surgery this past week and has been catching up on the show while out of commission.

I would be interested to know if I'm your oldest listener? I'm 47 years young and an old school gamer and punk rocker! While watching Dills stream I noticed he had the mighty Dead Kennedy's on. I remember seeing them in 1982. So this old guy has a lot in common with you all.

Hi guys, just a quick email to say:

Obviously I love your show, who would send an email in if they didn't??! (Rhetorical question) Anyway, back to the point.

I got into the beta yesterday (hell-to-the-f-yea!) and found something interesting. I'm sure it's well known but I haven't heard you guys mention it so. Did you know that if you silence a minion that has been frozen it removed the affect of the CC as well? I used silence on a venture co mercenary to get rid of the +3 mana cost and was surprised it also let me win the game in that same turn.
