WOLMER WOOD,

MARLOW COMMON,

MARLOW,

BUCKS.

Dec. 31st 1930.

My dear Philip

I was very glad to get your letter and to hear that you have been getting a few days change. Even if the weather did not behave well I am sure it was good for you to be by the sea and away from the London fog – at any rate you got some clean air to breathe. It was not very good weather here during the Xmas week but we did get some short spells of sunshine which made things look cheerful.

I wonder whether you will keep your good resolutions for

the new year and really try to take life a little more quietly. I am sure it would be good for you to be a little less strenuous and to take a more contemplative view of existence – it would mean less wear and tear for your nerves and muscles and less risk of tiring yourself. It is not good either for you or your work to attempt too much or to risk overstrain, so do make up your mind to slow down a bit.

We shall, of course, be delighted to come next Wednesday – My wife is very much looking forward to the sitting [3559] – but I hope we may see you on Saturday at the Pastel Society private view. I do not know how the show will look in the new Burlington Galleries as there is less space there than at the Institute but

I hope it will be all right and not be overcrowded. I have sent some of the pastels I did last summer; coast and sea subjects; and I am sending four things to the new Society of Artists which opens in the R.B.A. galleries next week.

Well au revoir till Wednesday and all our heartiest good wishes to you all for a happy and prosperous new year and many more to follow.

A.L.B.
