As the first week of the High School Journalism comes to a close, here are some important things to keep in mind when preparing to check out.

Tatiana DeWitt, a floor counselor for wing 2A in Spruce Hall, walked through the typical check-out process.

“Check out begins right after the awards end at noon,” DeWitt said.

DeWitt recommends doing the trash first, by putting tied-up trash bags in the bins that will be placed in the hall. After this is completed and all bags are packed, the next step is to have a floor counselor check your room for any discrepancies. This logically followed with the question-- are there any common items that are left behind?

Fortunately, DeWitt said, “there is usually nothing left behind, just because we go through and check each room and the drawers.”

With this putting many people at ease, DeWitt also recommends packing well the night before so there’s no rush following the awards to get back and check out as quickly as possible before one o’clock, when they would like everyone to be good to go.

DeWitt said, “The best advice I can give is to pack tonight.”
