A couple of small clarifications:

-Mexico has two branches of its military, the Army and Navy (Marina).

-I do not believe the US has militarized border security since those in charge are civilian law enforcement agencies, but we have securitized border management, rolling customs and immigration functions into agencies that have law enforcement and national security at the heart of their mission.

One small addition: Mexico has a newly created Gendarmerie, which is a part of the Federal Police, which participates (albeit with a light footprint) in border security as well.
