We have been learning to be Scientists

Success criteria:

  • Pose an inquiry question around plants

  • Create and and write an experiment to help find out

  • Make an hypothesis

  • Explain the importance of fair testing

  • Make observational notes

  • Label a diagram

  • Make conclusions

My comment:

This term in science we were learning what  germination is.We did an  experiment with a bag. We raped a seed in a tishue to see if it would germinate we had a big surprise and found out that it does and that the roots are called the radicle .We learnt that beans don’t need  sunlight to germinate. We labeled a diagram.

We went leaf hunt to find there right family's and compared to athers .We put celery up side down and one normal the control. We did a chart of a detailed observation and hypothesis.q I  thought that the up side down one would grow better but it didn't it just went down because of the gravity.

Kelly got in groups then we had to have a question are question was do plants sweat we stugled working together to make a plan but got there and then we did a experiment and then we fond out that they do we did a hypothesis we thought that they sweat in the sun they do.

This is some words learnt in science

Seed coat, food store ,radicle

 ,cotyledon ,gravity ,embryo ,germination,respiration ,control,nutrient,hubitat,

Hypothesis,terminal bud,roots,

Kelly’s comment:

You have been a keen scientist this term Tui. You have learnt by exploring, experimenting, observing, comparing and contrasting and by researching and asking. You can experiment every day at home and school. Keep thinking carefully before making a hypothesis.
