Dear Mr d’ Laszlo,

It seems a long while ago since I saw you last, but I often see you in my mind’s eye revealing the character of your sitters on canvas. Then when I want to be very near to you and your Studio, I [illegible] me to the Galleries and look on the portrait of Sir Wm High [5637]. It was a rare privilege to be permitted to see this picture evolve from

the blank canvas, and I live those few days in your studio over and over again. By the way, Sir William’s portrait improves every day.

Although I have been several times to London of late, I have not had sufficient time to come to Fitzjohn’s Avenue; but maybe some day soon I shall have the opportunity and the time.

May I express the hope that your son has now completely recovered from the effects of his accident;^[1] and that the marriage of your other son will be a happy event –^[2]
