✨ Super Mario Eclipse

Super Mario Eclipse is a rom-hack of Super Mario Sunshine that adds tons of cut and new content into the game as well as adding in the Better Sunshine Engine, native widescreen and native 60fps, completely overhauling the game and essentially making a new game alongside the base Sunshine.

Improvements and Additions

  • Better Sunshine Engine (a Mario Sunshine Engine created by JoshuaMK made for another Mario Sunshine rom-hack called Super Mario Sunburn) has been built into the game which allows tons of new fixes in the game and abilities for mario such as: The ability to Long Jump, allowing the hover nozzle to launch you slightly in the air (by trying to perform the backflip squirt while in hover nozzle mode), as well as being able to change the viewport (camera angle.) as well as other additions such as shines no longer booting you out of the stage on collection.
  • Five new worlds have been added to the base game: Erto Rock, Lighthouse Island, Hotel Lacrima, Warship Island, and Pianta Pit. These worlds were originally beta level names (with the exception of Pianta Pit) found inside sunshines code. Many assume that these worlds were actually meant to be in the final game but were never fully completed due to time constraints. Thanks to the Eclipse team, these worlds have been recreated and implemented into the game as fully playable worlds.
  • Corona Mountain has been overhauled into the Fire Shrine (which is another cut content beta level) and only becomes the original Corona Mountain after Delfino Plaza floods.
  • All the worlds are connected to each other by new subarea pathways, which allows for seamless entry between levels and allows other ways to get into the worlds besides the warps.
  • Auto-Save function has been added
  • Most blue coins can be collected in any level of the world instead only being in select levels.
  • An entire post-game has been added after you defeat bowser as well as a final secret boss at the end.

Q/A

“Taken directly from the Super Mario Eclipse Discord server.

Mod Questions:

  • "Why is it Dark?": In vanilla Sunshine, the darkness effect--which is based on shine count--only persists within the plaza. Eclipse updates this effect to be island wide so a more connected sense of progression can be observed. There is a setting in-game which lets you toggle the severity of the darkness depending on your preferences.

  • "Where is the new content/do I have to beat vanilla content first?": There is new content right off the bat to explore across the island, gaining access to the 5 new Isle Delfino locations right after you complete Delfino Airstrip. Once you beat Bowser in Corona Mountain, 7 more locations become available along with Daisy Cruiser, making up the Daisy Cruiser campaign that many are familiar with due to Demo v2.

  • "How do I get rocket/turbo in (X) area?": For the new areas, rocket and turbo unlock at the same rate as the plaza. Thus, you unlock them accordingly: Yoshi Unlock (Pinna 4) => 20 Shines(Turbo); 30 Shines(Rocket). This is due to issues that arose with adding custom unlock flags for the new areas.

  • "How do I unlock Luigi/Piantissimo from the trailer?": Piantissimo unlocks after you face him in all 4 races and Luigi joins the adventure post corona mountain.

  • "Where is the Map? When I press Z it doesn't show up": Due to the nature of Super Mario Eclipse having a bunch of extra areas to explore, the map was no longer compatible and so we made the decision to remove it completely and use the button real estate for long jumps!

  • "What is the Viewport setting?": This changes the camera behavior to more closely mimic the game you select. FOV, pan distances, and more are all affected.

🌟 Secret Shine Checklist

This checklist is only for the secret shines (shines not revealed in level select) and will exclude the red coin shines in fluddless levels as they are pretty self-explanatory on how to find.

This will also include the Shines for the hub-worlds (Delfino Plaza and Daisy Cruiser) and Pianta Pit as their shines are not shown in a level select.

☀️ OG Worlds:‎

  • Gelato Beach

Head up to the sprout near the bottom of the cliffs (Behind where the Sand Bird egg was) and spray it until it reveals a staircase. Shoot the wall at the bottom of the staircase until a shine graffiti appears that will trigger the shine to spawn.

  • Noki Bay

Spray the gold bird at the top part of the maze-cave (high area with the lone tree)

  • Pianta Village

Head up to the tip of the giant center tree in the village. On the top you will find a platform with a shine on it, stand on it and shoot towards the sun to reveal a shine sprite graffiti.

Delfino Plaza ‎

Shines Available Upon Arrival

  • 1. The First Airstrip Shine

You get a Shine at Delfino Airstrip at the start of the game.

  • 2. Beach Treasure

If you spray the sand in the east beach, just south of the lighthouse, you will notice sparks at a certain area. Give the area a blast of water, and a Shine will pop out. You will need to jump and hover across the rocky pillars just east of the lighthouse to get it.

  • 3. The Slide Mini-Game

Hover on over to the pipe on the rocky pillars to the east of the lighthouse and jump in. You will end up in a short stage where you have to slide down a series of ramps. Walk to the left edge, tweak your camera so it is directly behind you, then start sliding, always hugging the left rim so you don't fall into the pit on the right.

Jump across the gap at the end, and hold to the left as you jump so you will end up along the left rim there as well. Watch out for the pits here; if you stay on the left side, you can jump to the end of the red block, skipping both the pit on the green block and the large chasm after that. When you land on the last part, aim for the gray block in the middle, and carefully slide down the thin green beam (or just jump the last part if you are feeling lucky), and you will skid to a halt next to the Shine.

  • 4. The First Dirty Bell

There are two muck-covered bells in town, but you can only clean off the southwestern one until you get the Rocket Nozzle. Jump onto the top of the building with the orange flag and then aim towards the bell and start shooting. You will know you are hitting it when you see the yellow sparks. After it is clean, the Shine will appear. To get the Shine, take the manhole network that runs along the west side of town. It leads directly to the building.

Delfino Plaza Shines Available After Unlocking Bianco Hills

  • 5. The Box Smashing Mini-Game pt.1

The door in the canal area by the Shine Gate is now open, offering the opportunity to smash boxes for Shines. You get 30 seconds to smash them all, which is easy if you are good at jumping. Try to hit two or more adjacent boxes on the crack between them to take multiple down at once.

  • 6. The Box Smashing Mini-Game pt.2

After you collect Shine #4, head right back and do it again for another. The second time's a little tougher, since all the boxes are stacked in high columns. If you have mastered the spin jump or the side jump, the second Shine won't be any trouble for you.

  • 7. Chuckster on the Roof

Climb the palm tree in the northwest corner of town. Hover to a nearby roof, and then hover onto the building with the weathervane, where a Pianta awaits. For one coin, he will knock you directly into the top tower along the west side of town, where you will find the Shine waiting.

There is a chance his throw will not break open the window required to access the Shine, so keep trying until he finally hits it!

Delfino Plaza Shines Available After Unlocking Gelato Beach

  • 8. The Pachinko Mini-Game

Hitch a ride on the boat that runs from the canal in town to the small island with the fruit basket lady. When the boat passes under the bridge, you will notice a single gold coin beneath it. At that point, jump up and hold the hover button until you are pulled through the hole above it into the infamous Pachinko mini-game.

This is annoying. A spring-loaded trampoline near the starting point will shoot you up through the first three red coins, and from there, you will need to aim for one of the remaining five. If you successfully land on its platforms and grab the coin, you will slide into a network of ramps at the back that will take you back to the start. If you miss completely, you will fall out of the bottom of the stage and lose a life.

If you hold to the right when you shoot from the spring, you land and get the coin in the top middle (blue platform). Holding right and hovering allows you to get the top right coin (on a green platform). Holding left after the launch lets you get the coin on the top left (in a green platform). Hold nothing to land on the center pin, making it easier to get the two bottom coins (in purple platforms) by hovering. You can also get to the bottom left coin by holding left just as you go over the top of the green pillar, then tap right a few times as you fall past the left green platform.

The Shine will appear below the pins in the white and blue "house" platform, so again hold nothing to land on the center pin, then tap right a few times to fall off the pins into the house and get the Shine.

Delfino Plaza Shines Available After Unlocking Pinna Park

  • 9. The Gold Bird

If you go to the island off the east beach, where the blocked pipe is, you will find a gold bird fluttering around. Squirt it down for a Shine, which will appear on one of the pillars in the northeast.

Delfino Plaza Shines Available After Unlocking Yoshi

  • 10. The Lily Pad Mini-Game

Another tough one here. Make sure you have plenty of lives before you attempt this one, since it is most likely the hardest mini-game in the game and it is a pain to get back to after getting a game over. Orange Goo is blocking the pipe on the island to the east. The problem is, Yoshi can't swim, and it is way too far to flutter. You will need to take the boats.

Get Yoshi and take the island manhole tunnel to get to the south island with the Pianta and the fruit basket (the boat takes longer). Have Yoshi eat the coconuts from the tree while you wait for the next boat, which goes from this island to the metal structure south of here. Hop off, eat the bananas, and grab the final boat to your destination. Melt the Orange Goo and hop down the pipe.

Set the camera to an overhead view before you jump onto the lily pad. You will need to use your squirt nozzle and spray a bit behind you to get the pad moving forward. That course should take you into the first two red coins, but you will then need to turn left (by shooting a couple squirts to the right) to get Red Coin 3; then spray hard to the right to turn sharply enough to get to Red Coin 4. Rebound off the wall, then turn left and prepare to spray hard to get Red Coin 5. Use your own judgment on how to get Red Coins 6 and 7.

Note that Red Coin 7 is higher than the others, so you will need to jump off and hover into it. If you miss, forget the lily pad, and land on the red wall, then hover over to grab it from there. If you miss any one Red Coin, you pretty much lost, so you could either jump to your death or, if you are good enough, walk along the red wall back to the beginning of the stage. Note the manhole pipe on the green platform at the end of the stage does not take you back to the island, it takes you back to Delfino Plaza!

Delfino Plaza Shines Available After Unlocking the Turbo Nozzle

  • 11. Turbo Nozzle Fun

If you bash through the pair of doors using the Turbo Nozzle in the building to the left of the Pianta statue (underneath Yoshi's egg), you will find a Shine.

  • 12. The Waterslide Mini-Game

Using the Turbo Nozzle, break through the doors at the police station and you will end up on a long water slide. The strategy here is simple. Line up straight and then fire your Turbo Nozzle.

Jump over the gaps, and get the feel for the timing of jumping with the nozzle, because the last one is tricky. Your best bet is to jump early, so you will barely make it and grab onto the ledge where the Shine is. Otherwise, you may overshoot it and fall off the ledge.

Delfino Plaza Shines Available After Unlocking the Rocket Nozzle

  • 13. The Lighthouse

Use your Rocket to get on top of the lighthouse, where you will see a symbol. Rocket up again, then do a ground pound from rocket height. You will smash the symbol, freeing a Shine. Rocket up to get it.

  • 14. Cleaning the Shine Gate

To clean the Shine Gate, rocket up to the grassy ledges behind it, and hose off from there. Then, rocket on top of the Shine Gate, stand in the middle, and rocket straight up to retrieve the Shine.

  • 15. Cleaning the Second Bell

Rocket up to the other bell and spray it clean. Then rocket from the top of the tower to collect your Shine.

  • 16. The Tall Grass Mini-Game

If you follow the cliffs off the northwest shore, you will see a number of palm trees sticking out of the walls. Rocket up to the one at the end, and you will find a pipe that leads to the Tall Grass mini-game. In this one, you will need to find eight Red Coins hidden in the field of tall grass.

First, switch to an overhead view so the grass won't obscure the scene too much, and you won't risk falling into the pits. You will get one Red Coin from hosing down the flaming Pianta, two red coins from the Pokeys, two red coins from the Seedy Pods (the enemies that shoot rocks at you and need to be stunned from afar), one red coin in the pit by the watermelon block, one red coin atop a brown block. The final red coin is in a red bird that perches atop the tallest block in the area.

Delfino Plaza Shines Available After Defeating Bowser

  • 17. Defeating Bowser

You get a Shine in Delfino Plaza if you defeat Bowser in Corona Mountain

  • 18. 100-Coin Shine

You can get this Shine after unlocking Gelato Beach. Getting 100 coins on this stage is easy, since there are nearly 100 coins in the tunnel network alone. You can fill that amount out by spraying hanging signs, open windows, wanted posters, green birds, etc. The Shine will appear on the pillar in the middle of the ocean. Now that the boats are running again, getting the Shine will not be a problem.

  • 19. The Second Airstrip Shine

After Shadow Mario floods Delfino Plaza (which happens after you defeat Shadow Mario in the 7th episode in all 7 worlds), a man in a boat along the west docks of Delfino Plaza will offer to take you back to the Airstrip for 10 Coins.

To get the Shine Sprite, grab the Turbo Nozzle, hit the red switch, and blast through the building for Red Coin #1. Follow the coin path around the Airstrip, jumping over boats to get Red Coin #2 and #3, running into Red Coin #4 and #5, getting Red Coin #6 under the bridge, and picking up Red Coin #7 and #8 on the Airstrip.

You are given more than enough time to do it all, so don't worry if you have to go back for a few coins. Grabbing the red coins will make the Shine Sprite appear.

🏝️ New Worlds:‎

  • Erto Rock

Near the middle part of town (with the guy covered in goop in blue coin #16) You will see a lone rock pillar with a gold bird sitting there (if you don’t see it just wait and look around as it will come back.) Spray it with water (or eat it with Yoshi for the Shine.

  • Lighthouse Island

On top of the three stone semi-rings (the ones you go through during the Blooper race), there is a gold bird sitting on. Spray it off for a Shine.

  • Warship Island

Destroy the crates near the piece of beach that sticks out into the ocean (suspiciously) and spray water underneath where the crates were to reveal a Shine graffiti.

Pianta Pit ‎

  •  Tree Top Village Chucksters

Travel up the bridge past all of the chucksters to the final chuckster standing at the very top. Have him throw you at the shine behind him.

  • Top of the Great Tree

Use the platforms inside the great tree to reach the top and grab the shine on the branch outside.

  • 100-Coin Shine

Collect 100 coins around the pit (Make sure to look around everywhere including in the bushes and the lake.)

  • Mega Mushroom Ground Pound

Ground Pound on the rocket symbol from a high height (from bridge or with Yoshi.)

  • Tramplin Stu on the Loose

Kill the Tramplin Stu running around the pit by ground pound on his head (hit him with water to stun him for a sec.)

  • Douse the Campfires

Put out every campfire in the pit and the shine will appear.

  • Cheep-Cheep Chow Down

Use Yoshi to eat all of the Cheep-Cheep in the Lake.

Daisy Cruiser‎

  • Durian Excursion

Kick the Durian near the kid by the pool all the way to the opposite side of the ship into the female piantas with a basket.

  • Job for a Plumber

In the basement area of the cruiser (same area with entrance to Spettro Casino) jump onto the boxes and find the pipe with a giant hole in the side. Jump in and walk down the pipe to be led to a locked hallway with a lone M graffiti on the wall. Spray to reveal a Shine.

  • Dine n’ Dash

Jump onto the top of one of the roofs near the rear of the ship. Ground pound on the Shine Stone to reveal a shine that you only have 30 seconds to reach. Use the Rocket Nozzle and the floating umbrellas and Dining Tables to reach it in time.

  • Flight Path Peril

Jump into the open window outside the captains room (area where you access all the post-game worlds like vaporwave). You will be transported to a fluddless level consisting of Airplanes and Trains. Reach the end to get the Shine.

  • Flight Path Peril Red Coins

Repeat the last stage again but this time use fludd to collect all the red coins placed around the level.

  • 100-Coin Shine

Collect 100 coins around the cruise (shouldn’t be to hard as their is a decent number of coins placed around

🚂 Pathway Subareas:

  • 1. Giovane Creek

🔵 Blue Coin Checklist

The checklist for the original worlds (Bianco Hills - Pianta Village) has been mostly copied from IGN’s but might be worded slightly differently to fit with eclipse's new content or to fix IGN’s mistakes.

The checklist for the new worlds have been written down using SUBWAY CIRCUIT’s videos as a reference.

There are 420 (not a joke) Blue Coins to find in Super Mario Eclipse adding a whopping 180 more than there were in the original.

Blue Coins:

  • OG Worlds: 230 Blue Coins
  • New Worlds: 110 Blue Coins
  • Post-Game Worlds: 80 Blue Coins

Total: 420 Blue Coins

☀️ OG Worlds:

Corona Mountain is not counted in this list as it has been overhauled into the Fire Shrine and the blue coins have been completely redone for it. Its blue coins checklist is in the New Worlds List.

Because of the overhaul of Eclipse, certain Blue Coins may be available before the actual level that their collectible under.

Blue Coins:

  • Delfino Plaza: 20 Blue Coins
  • Bianco Hills: 30 Blue Coins
  • Ricco Harbor: 30 Blue Coins
  • Gelato Beach: 30 Blue Coins
  • Pinna Park: 30 Blue Coins
  • Sirena Beach: 30 Blue Coins
  • Noki Bay: 30 Blue Coins
  • Pianta Village: 30 Blue Coins

Total: 230 Blue Coins

Delfino Plaza

Anytime

  • 1. From the southeast part of the beach, swim around to the back of the building with bars on the windows. Jump and hover through the entrance in the back to grab the Blue Coin.
  • 2. After a few turns through the tunnel, you'll find the Blue Coin.
  • 3. Under the canal, just south of the Shine Gate.
  • 4. Beneath the highest lake north of the Shine Gate.
  • 5. You will see a large M Graffiti on the north side of the northwest tower (the one with the weathervane on top). Hover over to it and clean it off to get the coin.
  • 6. Hover around to the tower on the south, or take the east manhole tunnel and come out of the nearby roof. You will see a large crate on the south side of the tower. Ground Pound it to reveal another M Graffiti, containing Blue Coin #6.
  • 7. There is a crate along the canal, just south of the Shine Gate. Smash it to reveal another M Graffiti, with Blue Coin #7.
  • 8. This bird perches just west of the building with the giant pineapple in its chimney, and can easily be hit from near that pineapple. After a few solid hits, it will spit out a Blue Coin.
  • 9. The second bird perches on a building just west of the Shine Gate, and will also give up its coin after a few solid hits.

After Bianco Hills

  • 10. Spray the X on Pianta Statue
  • 11. Spray the X on #10 Counterpart

Fruits:

  • 12. The red Pianta beside the canal wants three bananas, which you can get from the fruit stands right around the corner, then toss into her basket fairly easily.
  • 13. The orange Pianta to the right of the Shine Gate wants pineapples, which you will have to hurl up to a raised basket.
  • 14. The Pianta to the left of the Shine Gate wants durians, which can be annoying, since you can't pick them up. You will have to kick them over the canal, and give them a solid B Button kick to clear the water before you kick them into the basket.
  • 15. The Pianta on the small island west of the plaza wants coconuts, which is handy, because they grow right on the tree. Stand so the coconuts are between Mario and the basket, and they will roll against the basket when you squirt them off the tree.

After Gelato Beach

  • 16. You will see a Pianta with his back on fire running back and forth on the road along the east beach. After you douse the flames, talk to the Pianta for a Blue Coin.

After Unlocking Yoshi

  • 17. On the backside of the Police Station tower - it can be reached with a Spin Jump.
  • 18. On a very high tower in the northwest part of town - you will need to shoot the Blue Coin from atop the bridge near the Pianta on the roof. Then, make your way up to the ramp around the tower and Spin Jump up. Jump off Yoshi and go the rest of the way on foot.

After Unlocking Turbo Nozzle

  • 19.  Break through the base of the pillar in the ocean northeast of the plaza with the Turbo Nozzle to find the Blue Coin.

After Flooding Delfino Plaza

  • 20. After Shadow Mario floods Delfino Plaza, a man in a boat along the west docks of Delfino Plaza will offer to take you back to the Airstrip for 10 Coins. Return to the cabana whose doors you blew open when collecting the red coins, and melt the ice cube to reveal a Blue Coin.

Bianco Hills

  • 1. Swim up the stream, and you will find the coin near the gate at the end.

  • 2. Clean the M Graffiti off the back wall of the building in the north part of the village.

  • 3. On the path that leads from the stream along the wall, clean the M Graffiti off the wall near the wheel.

  • 9. The X Graffiti corresponding to Blue Coin #8. Shoot the X from above, then fall to the left to grab the Blue Coin.

  • 10. From the wall, shoot the first mini-windmill on the east side of the wall with water until a Blue Coin appears on its platform.

  • 11. At the bottom of the lake, near the ledges on the west.

  • 12. On the rocky spire south of the windmill in the lake, spray the center with water to make the Blue Coin appear.

  • 13. Clean off the M Graffiti near the top of the Big Windmill.

Episode 3

  • 15. In the village, there is a Blue Coin on a small cliff. Climb on top of the tallest building in the village and hover over to it.

  • 16. Use the moving ledges on the arms of the big windmill. Once you are near the top, you'll see there is a Blue Coin on the mini-windmill in front of the large windmill.

  • 17. Destroy the Pokey on top of the Big Windmill, where Petey Piranha used to be.

Episode 4

  • 18. Destroy the Pokey on the rock steps along the cliff at the edge of the stream in the southeastern part of this area.

  • 19. Jump up to the hills where the Episode 3 cave is to find a man covered in mud. Clean him off for a Blue Coin.
