Thunder Hill Elementary School: Vision and Mission

Strategies

Vision: Every student is inspired to learn and empowered to excel.

Mission: We cultivate a vibrant learning community that prepares students to thrive in a dynamic world.

 

Language Arts

  1. In order to impact language arts performance, staff will participate in professional development in Guided Reading and develop an understanding of how to use data that drives instruction.  (PIP, Staff Meetings, HCPSS Training)
  2. In order to impact language arts performance, staff will participate in collaborative planning opportunities to develop a deeper understanding of Guided Reading strategies in order to plan, implement, and reflect on instruction and gain knowledge of available resources.  (PIP, Staff Meetings CFIP, team meetings)
  3. In order to impact language arts performance, staff will focus on Guided Reading that encourages and supports rich text through and implements the components of Daily 5 and/or Independent Daily Reading to promote lifelong readers.

Mathematics

  1. In order to impact mathematics performance, staff will participate in professional learning focused on the indicators of an exemplary class structure (number routines, small group instruction, closure, assessment, etc.) with particular emphasis on implementing Number Talks in all mathematics classrooms in all grade levels.
  2. In order to impact mathematics performance, staff will participate in collaborative planning opportunities to develop a deeper understanding of the Mathematical content standards and practices.   Teachers will plan, implement, and reflect on instruction centered rich tasks.  (PIP, Staff Meetings CFIP, team meetings).
  3. In order to impact mathematical performance, staff will establish a classroom environment that encourages and supports productive struggle, nurtures a mindset that mistakes are part of learning, and fosters student led questioning, thinking, and reasoning.  (Canvas resources, CFIP, team meetings)

School Targets

  • The percentage of students meeting the end of year Fountas and Pinnell Reading Benchmark will increase from 86.6% to 91%.
  • The percentage of students in the FARMS student group meeting the end of year Fountas and Pinnell Reading Benchmark will increase from 75% to 82%.
  • In grades one through five, the percentage of students meeting Spring Mathematics MAP benchmarks will increase from 61.1% to 66%.
  • In grades one through five, the percentage of students in the FARMS student group meeting Spring Mathematics MAP benchmarks will increase from 14.3% to 25%.
