A Conservative government is based on tradition. Their goal is to ensure class differences remain intact – after all, it was the aristocracy that built the country to its current state and they should be the ones who benefit. While conservatives don’t entirely dislike the middle classes they keep a close eye on them to minimize their increasing influence, while, like blue bloods, the working classes were born to do what they do. Typically conservatives believe in a religion favouring a single deity – after all their upper class positions are usually given by divine right – though some areas of society are secular; best not to encourage religious uprisings after all! The economy is based on self-interest where possible though the government should help maintain the aristocracy’s power. As a result healthcare should only be for those who can afford it – survival of the fittest. On that same note, why bother encouraging the lower classes to have babies? The more mouths to feed, the more they’ll complain! This belief in social Darwinism drives foreign policy too as conservatives believe it is their role to civilise the savages of other countries as well as profiting from trade. This also means that their military and navy are led by a strong, traditional values led by officers of the upper classes.

Liberals believe in personal and political freedom. They believe people should be able to do what they feel is right and this will, as if by an invisible hand, benefit society in general. Needless to say they believe in Laissez-faire Capitalism as an economic model and favour the opportunity for anyone to rise to greatness. That said many social policies can be altruistic as well as individualist. For example they believe in offering choice of private or public healthcare and their foreign policy is one of peaceful trade or concentrating on building a strong local economy. Similarly people should be able to choose whether or not to have more babies - choice however means that you would never limit them! Liberals are largely secular in political life though they promote religious tolerance above all leading to a largely content society. They also believe that fighting for the country is a choice freely given by its soldiers, hence its land and sea forces tend to be strong if not large.

Socialists believe in equality for all. They believe in that a man should “eat the fruit of his labours” hence the workers tend to have the focus of society. Those in the other classes are tolerated though a strong government ensures that the haves give to the have nots. As a result the economy is planned centrally, there is a focus on building a strong local economy rather than looking abroad and healthcare is free to everyone. This also means that people should be encouraged to have babies - the more people means more people can work together. As with liberals religious tolerance is preached though politics is strictly secular. The armed forces are typically viewed as weapons of the aristocracy and bourgeoisie to keep the working man down. Therefore it is strictly by choice that you fight.

The communists, like their more open minded socialist cousins believe in the equality of the classes as is evidenced through universal healthcare, though the concept of choice is limited in the main to the single party state. They shun religion as “an opiate of the masses” and the single ruling party, usually helped at lower levels by “soviets” - local councils set up to represent workers - controls all aspects of production and distribution. Inspired by Thomas Malthus, many communists believe that population outgrows food supply faster than it can be replenished, hence there will always be a one-child policy. They are very suspicious of foreigners, perhaps with some cause as in the past many have attacked their way of life. To stamp out the threat of self-interest, secret police are everywhere which can lead to a good deal of paranoia. The people are forced to take mandatory 2 years service in the armed forces which ensures there are always soldiers available, though of what quality none can be sure. They seek to expand their beliefs to bring about the “end of capitalism and the liberation of the workers abroad” where possible, though will pool all efforts into their own economy as well.

Fascists love glory and war. They are strong believers in social Darwinism and this leads them to seek out new territories and new people to subjugate, or civilise; the language is open to interpretation. The production is planned by the government for the most part though they encourage entrepreneurs to take up the challenge for them. This ensures that both those in the government and the middle classes are looked after where possible though healthcare can be offered to all if required. The need for babies can come and go as required and, likewise if the state needs to hoard food supplies then the birth of new children may be restricted. They believe strongly in a single religion as it proves their way of life is right and their armed forces, though made up of conscripts, can be quite strong as they believe that glory is the ultimate in achievement. In the event of victory in battle, the people, not only the soldiers bask in glory. Conversely, losing a battle can be a rude shock to the country!

The rules and regulations of their single deity rule all aspects of life. Religious tolerance is typically discouraged as it is seen as blasphemous and though the country is largely defended by conscripts, they are fighting for their religion as well as their country which means death refuses to scare them. Economically the country is planned for the most part by the religious leaders, usually along the lines of their religious texts. That said, so long as these texts allow it, leaders don’t usually mind if others take up the slack and they often appreciate foreign trade as an extra source of income and resources, not to mention a chance to spread the word of their faith. There’s no reason to restrict children, however, if the need arises then more zealots for the cause, the better. While religion provides unity for all, it does encourage the leaders to send out spies to ensure their people are still of one mind.
