RE: CYBERSECURITY ATTACK ON THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE AND LABOR

On Saturday, May 7, The Department of Commerce and Labor determined that we were the target of an organized cybersecurity attack, affecting some of the servers supporting our payment and data systems. The Department took immediate action, suspending all affected systems, notifying authorities and bringing in third party cybersecurity experts to resolve the situation. The incident response team located and immediately closed the access point that we believe was used to illegally gain entry to our servers.

The Department’s backup servers were not affected, and we are actively working with an incident response firm to restore our systems as soon as possible. The restoration of the Department of Commerce and Labor’s internal servers will eventually involve the resubmission of certain licensing documents by San Andreas business owners. We understand the inconvenience of this requirement, but it is necessary in order for our system to function in an efficient and secure manner.

While our investigation is still underway and we continue to learn additional details, we have now been able to confirm that the data stolen from our systems did include some personal information. It is recommended that any current or previous registered business owner take measures to ensure their personal digital security. Cybersecurity experts recommend changing your online banking passwords to protect from fraud.

Resolution of the incident will take time, which may delay certain transactions within the Department of Commerce and Labor. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this trying time. The Department of Commerce and Labor would like to applaud the efforts of law enforcement throughout this ongoing investigation.
