Saturday, Dec. 9 – PALMDALE: SNOW DAZE FESTIVAL & RACES, 1 Mile and 5K. Palmdale, at Christ’s Church of the Valley, Ave R @ 27th St East. RACE TIMES: 1 Mile - 10 am, 5K - 10:30 am. Second annual Snow Event - Inaugural Race. The 1 mile is the primary race; the 5K will be a fun run. Flat courses on the streets and sidewalks in the neighborhood south of the church. The Snow Daze Festival brings snow onto the church grounds and fetures a sledding slope for school age children. There will be lots of booths, activities and vendors there as well. Saturday, Dec. 23 – PALMDALE: JINGLE BELL 5K FUN RUN, Marie Kerr Park, 2723 Rancho Vista Blvd., 9 a.m. start. The 5K and the accompanying kid’s 1K are held on the paths of Marie Kerr Park. There will be refreshments and a costume contest! Staged by the High Desert Runners club, this race is also the final 2017 Grand Prix race series event for HDR members, who can score some extra bonus points. Registration is available online through the HDR website or by clicking here.  For information you may contact race director Erik Ruble at 661-435-6968;

Saturday, Dec. 30 – LANCASTER: APOLLO RISING FUN RUN, Apollo Park, 4555 W. Ave. G, Lancaster. (distance, start time, etc., varies). This is a new monthly untimed fun run for members of the High Desert Runners and friends. Enter park from Avenue G & 50th West by Fox Airfield. The park has a one-mile recently repaved loop path with lots of shade trees and pleasant views of the water. Restrooms are available and water fountains are plentiful. The length, speed, start and end time of the run is up to each participant.

Monday, Jan. 1, 2018 – MOUNTAIN TRAIL FUN RUN, NEW YEAR’S DAY HANGOVER RUN, Vasquez Rocks County Park, 8:30 a.m. start. Out-&-back route of about 7.4 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail. Saturday, Jan. 13 – SANTA CLARITA/NEWHALL: THE MASTER’S UNIVERSITY WINTER 5K, The Master’s University, 21726 Placerita Canyon Road, Newhall, 9 a.m. start. Course on rural paved streets and a keyhole loop through the scenic Quigley Canyon open-space trails. Awards in 10-year age groups. Overall male-female winners receive a pair of running shoes; top three age group finishers receive gift cards, all courtesy of Running Warehouse. On-line entry fee: $25 through Nov. 30; $30 Dec. 1-31; $35 Jan. 1—11, includes souvenir race T-shirt and complimentary post-race breakfast. NO day-of-race registration! A portion of each registration goes to support the Children’s Hunger Fund, which provides meals for children in Santa Clarita and around the world.

Saturday, March 3 – LANCASTER: NUTTY RUNNERS 5K & 10K RUNS, Apollo Park, 4555 West Avenue G (Barnes Avenue). NOTE NEW LOCATION! The park is about a half-mile beyond the Fox Airfield administration building and a quarter mile beyond the U.S. Forest Service air tanker base. The Nutty Runners event is a fund-raiser for the West Antelope Valley Educational (WAVE) Foundation, which supports extra-curricular activities in the Westside Union School District.
