Race Bib Transfer Policy

Unless specifically identified by the race web site and waiver, FSRC race entries are NOT transferable. These entries, once purchased, may not be resold, exchanged or given to another person.

Unauthorized transfers, as a matter of policy, are not a good idea. An entry into a running/walking event is not like a ticket to a ball game. Instead it has too many personal and legal attributes to be passed around.

Any bib found to have been transferred will have the associated result disqualified.

The reasons for not allowing unauthorized bib transfer are numerous. A few are mentioned here:

• Safety - if a runner gets hurt on the course and cannot respond to medical attention, his or her race bib should be linked to a name and emergency contact information.

• Skewed results - are a problem when runners swap bibs. A man who runs wearing a bib registered to his wife or his father, for example, may accidentally win an age group. Regardless of whether this bib won, it is bumping those behind it towards worse results.

• Your online racing reputation - can suffer if you give your bib to a slower runner. With the introduction of race result aggregators like athlinks.com, people who hand over their bibs must be comfortable with having someone else’s race results linked to their names indefinitely.

• Insurance claims - if you can’t run because you are sick or injured, bib swapping could cost you when making claims.

• Other people’s safety - could be in jeopardy. Les Smith, directory of the Portland Marathon, recalls one year when race officials received a phone call from the babysitter of a child whose mother was supposedly running the marathon and required medical attention, but even though the runner carrying the mother’s bib was found, it wasn’t the mother.
