IF YOUR FAMILY IS IN A TEMPORARY OR INADEQUATE LIVING SITUATION DUE TO A LOSS OF HOUSING, YOUR CHILD MIGHT BE ELIGIBLE FOR CERTAIN EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS AND SERVICES.

A student is considered “homeless” if he or she is presently:

  • Living in a shelter
  • Living in a motel, hotel, or campground due to a lack of adequate housing
  • Sharing housing with relatives or others due to a lack of housing
  • Living at a train or bus station, a park, or in a car
  • Living in an abandoned building
  • a youth not living with a parent or guardian
  • a child of a migrant worker
  • in other situations that are not fixed, regular, or adequate for nighttime residence

The Harrison District also recognizes Unaccompanied Homeless Youth--students not in the physical custody of a parent or guardian and also meeting a homeless criteria.
