Wow - the summer just seems to be flying by! I hope everyone has been taking some time off, enjoying some of the cool weather that visited us recently, and not thinking about the school that’s about to start for the kids. But, alas, you have to - preparations have to be made for the start of school. To all the kids out there, best of luck in your upcoming year and as Jains, make us proud by continuing to follow the Jain principles in your everyday lives.

The next two months are going to be somewhat busy. As school gets kicked off, we will also observe Paryushan during the latter part of this month, and in September, the Jain Camp.

IMPORTANT: Please see the Meeting Section for a change in venue for the upcoming Monthly Meeting.

1. Monthly Meeting

The community holds its monthly meetings at the Hindu Temple in Morrisville, NC. We invite everyone to attend the monthly meetings.

Please note this month’s meeting will be held at the Mini-Hall in the Main Building. This is the Hall on the left as one enters the front doors of the Main Building. Also note that this is the 4th Sunday of the month (instead of the usual 3rd).

Please contact any of the Committee members if there are any questions or clarifications needed.

For planning purposes, Please inform our Food Coordinator, Mr. Ajay Shah, if:

a) You are not a regular attendee of the monthly meetings, but *are* planning to attend … OR …

b) You are a regular attendee of the monthly meetings, but are *not* planning to attend

2. Announcements

Paryushan Maha Parva - 2014

Jain Study Center of North Carolina will observe Paryushan from Aug 23 - 30. Please note that these dates are different from traditional Paryushan dates [Aug 22 - Aug 29]. The Committee is planning a number of activities to be held in this period. A detailed Paryushan planner will be sent out as soon as all the dates/events are finalized.

During this Maha Parva, we would like to send our good wishes to all those who are planning to do tapasya. Please bring to our attention any tapasvis by sending a quick email to Bhairav Shah (bhairavshah@gmail.com). All tapasvis will be recognized in the next newsletter.

Finally, during the auspicious occasion of Paryushan, please consider donating towards Jiv Daya, Scholar Fund, Pathshala / Children's activities, or the General Fund. All contributions to JSCNC are tax-deductible. Please make your checks payable to "Jain Study Center of North Carolina" or simply "JSCNC", and either hand them to any Committee member, or mail them to the Treasurer at:

Camp Lalit - 2014

JSCNC organizes an overnight camp each year. The committee is working on setting up a registration and payment system and will publish it soon. Please be on the lookout for a separate email with instructions on how to register.

Scholar Visits for 2014

JSCNC is fortunate to host 2-3 scholars each year even though we are a relatively small center. Last month, we had Shri Nirmal Sagar Ji visit our center and the committee would like to thank Shri Kiritbhai & Jyotiben Shah for hosting them and also arranging engaging discourses. As we announced previously, we will have Saman Shrutpragyaji visit us during the camp & Shri Dhirjlal Panditji visit us after Paryushan.
