The children will learn about the period of Advent

What do we get ready in Advent?

  1. The teacher will ask the children if they know why we celebrate Christmas.
  2. The teacher will discuss Advent.
  3. Ask: What do we get ready in Advent? When was Jesus born? Who is Jesus?
  4. Have the children make hand prints using construction paper to make an Advent Wreath.
  5. Have the children sing an Advent song.

  3. Have each child look at themselves in a mirror.

  5. The teacher will find something wonderful about each child to notice and say something like, “Nobody has a great smile like yours.
  6. Teach the children the song “Your Face.”
  7. Distribute activity p. 35.
  8. Explain that the pictures show things they can do.
  9. Have the children place an X in the box with their fingers or trace the X to indicate that they can play.

  1. The teacher will review how wonderful the children are.
  2. The teacher will discuss things we need to do to take care of ourselves.
  3. Teach the children the rhyme “I Can Take Care of Me.”
  4. Distribute activity p. 36 to each child.
  5. The teacher will read the first two lines at the top of the page. (The words, “How wonderful made by God I “I am” are from Psalm 139.
  6. Have the children look at the illustration.
  7. Ask the children the following question based on the illustrations: How can we take care of ourselves? Can you model ways we can take care ourselves? What would happen if you do not take care of yourself?
  8. Have the children trace the dotted X’s with a crayon if they eat the food that are good for.

  5. Have the children speak about something special they like to do using a television frame.
