In 1907 the artist also painted three portraits of the sitter’s husband, Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig of Hesse and by Rhine [5941], [9783], and [5937] as a pendant to the present portrait. Another portrait of the sitter remained unfinished and unsigned and was most probably rejected [10442].
