Vascular Compression Surgeons
You can use this list to search by surgical procedure, condition, state, etc. (On my Mac laptop, I press “command-F.” I think it’s the same for Windows. I’m not sure if there’s a way to search on phones or tablets.) Be sure to look for abbreviations, (AT, SMAS, NCS, etc) as well as spelled out words. I’ve tried to spell out all state names to eliminate confusion, there.
Please note: This list is intended to track who is doing which kind of surgeries for vascular compressions, not necessarily a “recommended” list. Some patients have reported negative experiences with some of those listed; it’s suggested you do your due diligence with any medical practitioner and research thoroughly on the procedure and the surgeon. You may wish to post on social media and ask what people’s experiences in your group are, and they can comment or private message you.
Also note, any of this information could be inaccurate or have changed since it was posted. Please confirm anything here before making any decisions based on this list! It has been compiled from comments on several support groups, thus is mostly second hand. And pelase let me know if you find any discrepancies.
If you’re in the US and searching by state, try using the search option (upper righthand corner) for the name of that state. Unfortunately we often find people must travel outside their state for the best care for them. Not every state has a practitioner experienced with abdominal vascular compressions. If your insurance doesn’t cover the doctor you feel is best for you, there may be an appeal process you can use. If that is not successful, the Insurance Commissioner for your state may be able to help.
If you’re looking for diagnosis, often contacting a surgeon’s office can lead you to a diagnostician that surgeon uses and trusts. Sometimes it is the surgeon, sometimes not. There is also a list under files on the Renal Nutcracker Facebook Group which may have some ideas, though it hasn’t been updated in a while and sometimes seems to disappear. I hope to re-vamp that list in the near future. Meanwhile, I tend to direct people to Dr. Garland at Vascular Institute of the Rockies, Dr. Kurtis Kim and Dr. Thomas Scholbach in Germany.

Several surgical options tailored to the patient. Open traditional and Hybrid At (LRV Decompressions with LRA, both lowered, and kidney denervation). With hybrid kidney is not placed in the pelvic area, ureter and LRA are typically not cut. Open MALS surgery. For MTS he does either bypass a.k.a. iliac anterization, in which the vein (which can be replaced with a vein from elsewhere in the body, if needed) is placed anterior to the artery to prevent future compression) or stent depending on the patient.
