equipment for service, construction and fabrication.

PST.01.03.01.a.

Identify and demonstrate safe use

and maintenance of

measurement and layout

tools.

-Explain how to properly read and use a micrometer.

-Demonstrate how to properly set and use a torque wrench.

-Students will properly measure telescoping gauges with micrometers.

-Students will demonstrate how to set and torque a series of bolts.

-Micrometer and Torque Wrench class activity.

-Small Gasoline Engines “Operation, Repair, & Maintenance”

September

PST.01.03. Performance Indicator: Identify and use hand and power tools and

equipment for service, construction and fabrication.

PST.01.03.01.b.

Select, maintain and use hand and power tools in service, construction and fabrication.

-How do you distinguish the difference between metric and standard measurements on bolts.

Demonstrate proper use of all small engine specialty tools (flat feeler gauge, round wire feeler gauge, compression tester, tachometer, spark plug tester, piston ring compressor, piston ring expander, lapping tool)

*Specialty Tools Unit*

-Students will complete lab stations and will need to demonstrate proper use of each specialty tool.

October-Ignition

November-Carburetion

December- Compression

PST.03.01. Troubleshoot and repair internal combustion

engines.

PST.03.01.01.a. Identify

components and systems of

internal combustion engines

*Ignition System

-Explain the difference between a coil and a breaker point ignition system.

-Explain the entire Ignition System on (classroom assigned engine) your Briggs & Stratton engine, including parts and function.

*Carburetion System

-Explain how a carburetor works using the concept of the Venturi Principles.

-Describe how each of the following carburetion systems pull fuel into the cylinder: float feed, suction feed, pulsa-jet, diaphragm, integral fuel pump

*Compression System

-Explain how the following compression parts work together to complete the compression system: crankshaft, flywheel, connecting rod, piston, rings, cylinder, camshaft, valves, springs, and tappets.

-Demonstrate how to properly disassemble and reassemble the compression unit, completing all required system measurements.

*Ignition System:

-Imovie created to demonstrate proper identification of parts and functions.

-Ignition Lab: B & S engines

*Carburetion System

-Group presentations on assigned carburetion system.

-Carburetion Lab: B &S and Honda engines

*Compression System

-Compression Lab: B &S engines

PST.03.01.01.b. Utilize

technical manuals and

computer-based diagnostics

in engine analysis and repair

-Demonstrate how to properly read a common specification chart for a single cylinder L head engine.

-Properly convert standard to metric readings according to the conversion table.

-Properly follow the directions within the B&S and Honda Manual to disassemble and reassemble the engine systems outlined within each lab.

*Entire engine labs are based on technical manual reading*
