Home Automation

  • The house should “turn on” when your phone connects to the wifi and you open a door.
  • The house will “turn off” at 10:00pm, and again at 1a if lights are turned on.
  • To turn on under cabinet lights - reach for doorbell switches mounted in the corner of the upper cabinets.
  • The light switch in the front hallway closest to the living room has images to show you what they control.  
  • Lamp - turns on lamps in the living room
  • Sunrise - turns on the general lighting in the house
  • Moon - same as “goodnight” command
  • TV - same as ‘TV Lights”
  • Film Strip is Movie Lights

Helpful Google home commands:

  • Goodnight - Turn off and lock down the house at any time.
  • Dinner Time - focus lights on kitchen table
  • After Dinner - adds kitchen lights
  • Movie Lights - Dim lights, blue wash on walls in living room
  • TV Lights - a little brighter than Movie Lights, amber wash on walls in living room

Food:

  • Help yourself to anything in the house - including the Pantry /  deep freezer / wet bar / fridge / freezer
  • Sam Recommends the Core Power chocolate drinks (42g protein) and Chobani Yogurt (20g protein)  for high protein choices
  • If you want more, Costco typically has the best price

Shower/Bathroom:

  • You are welcome to either shower/bathroom (although Sam and Jon’s may be easier/safer for you to get in and out of.
  • The light is the top left, Fan is top right  (3-way fan switch is next to the toilet)
  • Night light is bottom left, heater is bottom rightleft
  • Fan and lights will turn off at 8a, and 30 minutes after being turned on.

Laundry:

  • Oxy Clean & Scent Beads: If desired, add to the basin before loading in laundry
  • Detergent & Fabric softener: Automatically dispenses - no need to add extra to the load
  • You can adjust the settings, but you’ll have to change them back for the next load

Where do you find….

  • Toilet paper is available in the white cabinet of Sam and Jon’s bathroom
  • Paper Towels are in the back hallway, lower cabinets on the far right
  • Kleenex boxes are in the back hallway, upper cabinets on the far right
  • Bath Towels are in the back hallways, upper cabinets on the far left
  • Extra linens and pillows for the guest bed are in the chest of the guest bedroom
  • Toilet Plunger Next to the toilet in the primary bathroom
  • Pluming Snake is in the hall bath behind the toilet

How to watch TV in the living room:

  • Use the remote to “Watch TiVo” for live TV and things that we have recorded
  • Use the remote to “Watch XBox” for streaming services
  • Log in with Sam’s user profile (Queen of Hearts)
  • Streaming services available: Amazon Prime, Disney Plus, Hulu, Stars, Apple TV
  • Use the red button to “go back” at any time while in XBox mode.
  • Use the power button on the top right corner of the remote to turn off the TV.
  • You can always turn the whole system off and back on if you need to switch from TiVo to the XBox.

Guest Bedroom TV - Many streaming services already logged in.  Just use the TV Remote.

Sprinklers and exterior lights:

  • Exterior lights should turn on at dusk, and off at about 10p
  • Sprinklers should run automatically overnight by zone, starting at about 10:30p.

Fish - You shouldn’t have to do anything.

  • The automatic fish feeder is topped off and should dispense food at 7a every day.

Things that happen on specific days:

Mondays:

  • Gardners will mow and tend to both front and back-yards in the early afternoon
  • Garbage night - The gardeners will bring all 3 cans to the curb for garbage night

Tuesdays:

  • Garbage pickup (am).  Neighbor Kevin to bring cans back up.

Thursday or Friday:

  • Simi Valley Acorn Delivery (on Driveway)

Sundays:

  • LA Times Delivery

Frank should NOT be coming by to clean.

  • Elder Placement specialists:  They will figure out the circumstances and the best fits according to location, needs, budget etc.
  • They will arrange or tour with you and help negotiate the contract for you.  Their services are free to the party that is looking for placement.
