About Us

In the beginning

Rutland Panthers began life as 'Danish Invaders' in the Central Division of the Rutland & District Petanque League in 2004. As their original name suggests, they played out of the Danish Invader pub in Stamford

Up the ranks

By the end of 2008 the team had reached the heady heights of the Premier Division, where they have remained ever since, improving their points tally in every season

Into the big time

In 2013 the team moved to the Boot and Shoe in South Luffenham and registered as an English Petanque Association member club of the East Midlands Region

Character

The Boot & Shoe is the archetypal village pub with plenty of character, good food and an atmosphere we love to be part of.

The small but challenging piste is made-to-measure for the Panthers' aggressive playing style which is encapsulated in the rallying cry 'lock and load!'

Along with EPA status came the astute recruitment of the Regional Development Officer and entry to the Wednesday evening Leicestershire Petanque Summer league. Winning Division 5 in their first season the Panthers followed this up with the Division 4 title and the Plate in 2014. In 2015 the team were Division 3 Champions and Woolwich Trophy winners

2015 saw further expansion as members of the club launched an assault on the Thursday Petanque pairs League. Paticipating teams are based in an area around the Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire divide. The 'Loughborough Panthers' monstered Division 2 and won the Plate Final playing from the Plough in Thorp Acre
