What is the speaker partner program?
Speakers participate as panelists and presenters in our briefings and workshops. It’s a great way for subject matter experts, journalists, government officials, and others to get their message out to a wide audience in a live, interactive format.
Is there an application process to become a speaker partner?
There is no formal application process, but we do qualify potential speaker partners to ensure that a good fit. Speakers are required to be knowledgeable in their fields, articulate and professional presenters, and have a minimum comfort level with technology. These determinations are made on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of GreenLeaders DC.
Are speakers required to have any specific qualifications?
Yes, all prospective speakers are required to demonstrate that they understand and can function in an online, collaborative environment. Each speaker must demonstrate a minimum level of technical knowledge to ensure events meet GreenLeaders DC’s quality control standards.
Before we schedule a speaker for a live event, each speaker must attend a one-time Google Hangouts orientation session. We offer several options for orientation sessions, based on speaker knowledge level:
A basic session for speakers already familiar with Google Hangouts and possessing previous online presentation experience.
An intermediate session for beginners with some familiarity with online presentations, but require some assistance with settings and presenting in Google Hangouts.
Private sessions are for speakers with no prior experience with Google Hangouts or online presentation. Step-by-step, we cover account creation, audiovisual equipment, settings, and online presentations. Private sessions may include introductory phone calls in preparation for online collaboration.
After the potential speaker has demonstrated sufficient knowledge of the technology, they are eligible to present in live events by responding to formal and informal “call for speaker” requests.
Are there any speaker qualification maintenance requirements?
GreenLeaders DC does not certify a speaker's knowledge of online collaboration or technical ability. It is up to the speaker (and in their best professional interest) to maintain and improve their knowledge of online collaboration and presentation technologies.
GreenLeaders DC will always prefer speakers who prepare, present in a clear, lively manner, and demonstrate technical proficiency within our online collaboration environment.
Speakers remain part of the partner program until they decide to depart. However, GreenLeaders DC reserves the right to remove speakers from the program at its discretion. Speakers who uphold high quality standards related to professional presentations, knowledge, and general conduct are welcome to remain part of the partner program for as long as they wish.
Are there any fees required to join the speaker partner program?
No, there are no fees to be part of the speaker partner program.
How am I notified of speaking opportunities?
Calls for speakers are sent to the partner community through the partner update email. GreenLeaders DC follows up with respondents to clarify event timeframes and subject matter on a case-by-case basis.
Are speaker partners required to sign a legal agreement?
Yes. Speakers are engaged on a per event basis and sign a standard speaker agreement and release for each event. Signing speaker agreements is done quickly and easily via electronic signature. Beyond the speaker agreements for each event, all speakers agree to common-sense guidelines to conduct themselves professionally and respect other speakers’ views.
How often would I be able to present on a live event?
The frequency of presentations varies based on speaker preference, subject matter, audience demand, and other factors. We work with each individual speaker to design a schedule that fits both the speaker’s preferences and GreenLeaders DC’s activities.
How do I keep up to date on program developments?
We send out a weekly partner email with partnership updates, speaking opportunities, and more. Of course, speaker partners are always welcome to give us a call or email GreenLeaders DC staff with questions and comments.
Are speakers paid for their participation?
Speakers are volunteers, but do receive video recordings of all their presentations for their own portfolio and access to our Partner Resource Center with presentation resources.
