Marina Field - Game Day Setup and Take-Down

Team Responsibilities

Both Team Managers (home and visitor teams) are jointly responsible for proper field prep and post-game field work and clean up.

Setting Up The Field

  1. Completely water dirt infield until well-dampened.  Pull metal drag mat across entire infield.  Keep drag mat at least 2 feet from edges of infield and outfield grass.  Hand-rake remaining 2 foot strip next to grass.  Store drag mat in shed.
  2. Remove tarp from pitcher's mound, store in shed.  Lightly water the mound until slightly damp.  Lightly sweep or rake to smooth out mound.  Tamp down dirt tamp down using the piece of carpet to create a flat landing zone.
  3. Install base anchor pads.
  4. Fill chalker no more than 1/2 full.  Use chalker at smallest (narrowest) setting.  Chalk lines should be no more than 2" wide.
  5. Chalk outlines for batter's box and catcher's box.  Batter's box dimensions are 5 feet long (front-to-back) and 3 feet wide.  Batter's box should be located approx. 6 inches from side of home plate.  Catcher's box should extend (up to) 8 feet from back of home plate and be approx. 43 inches wide.
  6. Set up guide marking string for 1st and 3rd baselines.  Marking string should be on foul territory side of base anchor pads. Chalk 1st and 3rd baselines.  Do not run chalk line onto outfield grass.
  7. Chalk runner's lane adjacent to 1st baseline.  Chalk coach's boxes adjacent to 1st & 3rd baselines. (Farm and AA Games – There is NO Chalked Pitcher Circle!  The pitching mound is the Pitchers Circle.)
  8. Install bases onto anchor pads.  Double-1st base should straddle the chalk line.
  9. Store water hose along right field and left field foul-line fences.  Make sure hose is completely off of the outfield grass.

Taking Down The Field

  1. Completely remove all trash from dugouts.  Sweep up all dirt & debris.  Do not sweep debris onto infield dirt.  Put trash & debris in trash receptacles next to bleachers.
  2. Remove bases and anchor pads, return them to base holder stand in shed.
  3. Sweep out all chalk lines with brooms.
  4. Lightly Rake loose dirt from infield grass back onto dirt area.  Use water stream to push dirt out of grass.
  5. Completely water the dirt infield until well-dampened.  Pull metal drag mat across entire infield. Keep drag mat at least 2 feet from edge of infield grass.  Hand-rake remaining 2 foot strip next to grass.  Store drag mat in the shed.
  6. Re-water dirt infield until well-dampened.
  7. Lightly water the mound until slightly damp.  Tamp down dirt if needed to create a flat landing zone.  Lightly rake and smooth dirt on mound.  Cover mound with tarp and anchor to the ground.
  8. Store water hoses along right field and left field foul-line fences.  Make sure hose is completely off of the outfield grass.
  9. Put away all field tools in designated areas in shed.  Remove key from ignition of tractor.
  10. Close and latch shed garage door.  Turn off all shed lights.  Put back door key and cover on lockbox. Close and lock shed door.
