Subject: User Test and Report

Introduction

The instructions I gave were on how to change the grading option of your class in myLane. The instructions were intended for current and future students at Lane Community College. While most students decide to have the normal, letter grade option, there are times and situations where changing to a pass/no pass is better. This document will explain the instructions, feedback I received, and what I changed from my draft to the final version.

Objective

The instructions that were provided contained all of the necessary information on how to successfully change your grading method. The only required materials were a computer with internet access and your account information. I provided a well documented step-by-step process along with visuals of each procedure that was necessary to complete this task.

Method

I attempted to make my draft as easy to follow, even for those who are not tech savy. By providing an image of each step, I offered multiple avenues in which the user could follow my procedure with step-by-step instructions as well as well documented imagesY. Users were intended to complete this guide from anywhere with accessibility to the internet. My test subject was Genevieve Baccaro, who provided a video with feedback.

Results

In my test users’ video as feedback to my instructions, the user seemed to have followed my instructions easily without confusion. However, I noticed that there was an issue when reviewing their video.

  1. There were times when the user did not know where the link was located, so they spent some time searching the page for the location of it.

After noticing this issue, I wanted to fix it for future readers. It was important to be open to criticism and be observant for cues of the reviewer. This minor flaw made it evident that I could have provided direction in my instructions, as well as the images.

Conclusion

After reviewing the video from my peers’, I really valued the importance of concise and accurate instructions. I have improved my instructions by acknowledging the issue stated above. After realizing that the user was reading the directions more than using the pictures, I added directive descriptions to my guide to not only help the user complete this process, but find the necessary links to keep the process smooth. Through the experience of reviewing and revising my user guide, I learned that being detail oriented, organized, and concise are key qualities for writing and following directions.
