POSITION PROFILE
POSITION DESCRIPTION
As an Administrative Assistant (AA), you will serve as a leader and primary resource for students, managing the daily operations and administrative duties at both the studio and residence halls. AAs play a crucial role in supporting students’ educational, social, and personal development, while fostering a strong sense of community among dancers. This is a seasonal full-time, live-in position with on-call responsibilities. AAs report directly to the AA Lead.

AAs should demonstrate a helpful, courteous demeanor at all times.

LOCATIONS & DATE COMMITMENTS
Joffrey Ballet School offers seasonal internship positions for our summer intensives that run from June 1, 2025 – August 23, 2025 in NYC. There is a variety of contract lengths available, with two possible start dates (noted below). Applicants will be able to indicate their availability and contract length preference (three to fourteen weeks), but must be available to start their contract on one of the dates listed below.

TIME COMMITMENT
AAs will be assigned duties at both the residence hall(s) and the studio. Attendance at training sessions is required. The contract duration is dependent upon the successful completion of duties, projects, and performance evaluations.
Availability
The internship does not adhere to a traditional 9–5, Monday–Friday schedule. Duty shifts are scheduled Monday–Sunday based on the studio class schedule, with 24/7 duty shifts at the dorm. AAs must be prepared for morning, afternoon, or evening shifts throughout the week.
Aside from on-call/duty shifts, AAs will be assigned to additional duties. Although some of these projects could be completed while on duty, some of the duties might have to be scheduled outside of those hours. AAs live in the hall with the students. If a student knocks on a staff member's door (even if they are not on duty), they need to assist them. If one of our students is involved in a special situation, AAs may be called back from time off to assist.
Holidays, Breaks and Vacation Periods
AAs are required to be available every Saturday and Sunday. Staff members should communicate all conflicts during their interview and will not be able to request a “day-off” on Saturdays or Sundays. Joffrey Ballet School will not close for any holidays during the summer sessions.
Meetings & Activities
AAs must participate in all meetings: housing and program orientations, weekly staff meetings, reviews and one-on-one meetings with the supervisor. s will also be assigned to escort and chaperone extra activities.
Performance weeks
Performance weeks (end-of-intensive weeks) are traditionally a busier time at the studios and residence halls. This time includes overlapping intensives, extra rehearsals, preparation for performances all while completing the weekly check-in/out days, extra activities and meetings. Staff members will not receive a “day-off” during performance weeks.
COMPENSATION DETAILS
Salary/Fixed Rate - $250 per week
The weekly compensation is $200 per week. If you successfully complete your contract from the start to end date and complete all responsibilities, you will receive $50 (per week) at the end of the contract. This would equal to an effective service fee rate of $250 per week.
Housing & utilities
Joffrey Ballet School will provide a bed in housing for the duration of the contract. Interns are required to live in the residence hall and will be assigned to share a bedroom and/or apartment with other staff members and may be requested to move apartments or residence halls during the intensives.
Subway fare
Interns will be reimbursed for subway fare during their contract. Scheduled reimbursements will be provided in advance to cover the cost of purchasing a Metrocard.
Complimentary Dance Classes & Events
Interns are allowed to take dance classes during their contract and will attend all ticketed activities (that they are assigned to chaperone) for free.
AAs must make their own travel arrangements to and from New York City
RESPONSIBILITIES
In addition to the list below, other duties will be assigned as needed by the Director of Operations and Supervisors. AAs must be adaptable as role responsibilities may change. s must review the student and staff handbooks for all protocols and responsibilities.

OUTSIDE ADDITIONAL WORK
AAs are not permitted to work for another company while completing their contract. Staff members are allowed to enroll in online classes that are self-paced and do not have a scheduled meeting time. AAs must prioritize their job and ensure that all expectations related to their position with Joffrey Ballet School can be successfully met.

Do I have to submit an application if I have worked for Joffrey Ballet School before?
All applicants must submit an application and go through the selection process, regardless of previous work history with Joffrey Ballet School.
Do I have to submit a cover letter?
Applicants must submit a Cover Letter with their application.
Do I have to submit reference letters?
Applicants are not required to submit letters of reference, but must indicate professional references on their application.

Interview
Candidates must review the information packet for the position they are interested in before their interview.

What type of questions will I be asked during my interview?
The one-on-one interview is an opportunity for the candidate to introduce themselves, review their resume/experience and ask questions about the position/company.
For housing and administrative positions, the company is specifically interested in reviewing the candidate’s residence life/child care and administrative experience, as well as their artistic interests and background. Other topics could include community development, customer service, teamwork, policies and protocol as well as situational questions.

Group Sessions
Are the group interviews in-person or virtual?
All group sessions will be conducted on ZOOM. Candidates who are selected for a group interview will receive a link to schedule the session. After they sign-up for a session, they will receive ZOOM information.
What happens during a group session?
The group interview is an opportunity for candidates to show how they operate as part of a team. The main activities will include group discussions and problem solving exercises.
How long will the session last?
Interviews traditionally last 2 hours.
Additional Interviews
Are the interviews in person or virtual?
All second interviews will be conducted on ZOOM. Candidates who are selected for a second interview will receive a link to schedule their meeting. After they sign-up, they will receive ZOOM information.
What type of questions will I be asked during my second interview?
The second interview is an opportunity for candidates for coordinator and supervisor roles to review their leadership experience.
How long will the interview last?
Interviews traditionally last 45 - 55 minutes.
What happens after the Group Session and/or second interview?
Applications will be prompted to complete the INTERNSHIP FORM. This form should not be completed until after the applicant participated in the Group Session.
Joffrey Ballet School will be reaching out to references after the initial interview was scheduled.
