ESEHNextGate Teaching Support Program 2024
Organizers: Mona Bieling and the ESEH NextGate Action Team
The ESEH NextGate Action Team is organizing a teaching support program for junior instructors and anyone who would like to learn about some best practices in teaching Environmental History (and related fields).
Our goal is to support junior instructors with the design and conduct of their courses and to create a community of early career peers who will support each other during the semester if any questions or issues arise.
The program consists of:
1) On syllabus design: Prof. Marianna Dudley, Bristol University. Wednesday, October 16, 16.-17.30 CET.
§ Best practices of course design, for example: How do I plan a course from beginning to end? How do I create and schedule assignments throughout the course? How broad / how narrow can a course be? What type of depth makes sense depending on the target group? How much reading can and should be assigned etc.
2) On class design: Prof. Shen Hou, Peking University. Friday, October 18, 16.00-17.30 CET.
§ Best practices of running individual sessions, for example: What are some good tools to have in our toolbox as instructors? How do I match content with exercises? How much content fits into a session? Etc.
