In the poem “Highway man”, author Alfred Noyes uses Euphony to hint the readers that the Highwayman was coming. To tell the readers that the highwayman was coming the author uses euphony to hint the readers that someone is coming to save Bess. Alfred Noyes in line 69,70, and 71, stanza 12 stated “Tlot- tlot; tlot- tlot! Had they heard it? The horse hoofs ringing clear; Tlot- tlot, tlot- tlot, in the distance?” Bess was getting hurt by men and she didn’t think anyone would save her, but the author uses the sound of the horse to surprise the readers and Bess. This made the ending of the story more interesting.
