To make RG happy <3
I’m using green for my commentary because all the world is green and we’re all mad here.
My theory is essentially that ever since Taylor met Dianna, soon after she turned 20, she’s been writing love songs, almost exclusively, about her. At least the ones she puts out on her own albums. It’s her biggest con, her greatest illusion, one of Hollywood's most surprising bait and switches.
While a couple of articles suggest Taylor met Dianna in 2010,
Enchanted’s creation date is 2009 / 2010 which suggests they met earlier, though it’s possible that the track was earlier and the lyrics later. Many of the Swiftgron songs include references to Christmas. Begin Again, Lover, Tis the Damn Season. More have snow or twinkly lights like You Are in Love, and Snow on the Beach.
Following Season 1, Episode 5 “The Rhodes Not Taken”, Taylor tweets about her love for Glee and Dianna’s friend, Jenna Ushkowitz who played Tina, responds.
I suspect Dianna responded to Taylor privately and they began emailing, based on what she said in interviews about meeting the muse of Enchanted.
Dianna was spending a lot of time in Long Island during November/December 2009 while filming “The Romantics” with Adam Brody. ADAM is the liner note hint for Enchanted. SAG is the liner note hint for Red, which could be referencing Sag Harbor in Long Island. The Glee cast were signing CDs at two Maserati dealerships within 15 miles of Garden city and about an hour and a half west of Sag Harbor.
The lyrics in Red ‘Loving him is like driving a new Maserati down a dead end street, Faster than the wind, passionate as sin, ending so suddenly’.‘Took off faster than a green light go’ (Holy Ground) is consistent with comparing their relationship to driving ‘faster than the wind.’ (Red)
One easter egg reason to think Dianna and Taylor met the first week of November, are the visuals Taylor consistently uses on the Speak Now Tour. The trees are bright red like well into fall. This scene looks like a dramatic Central Park in November.
She consistently wears a gold sparkle dress reminiscent of the one she wore for her SNL performance of You Belong With Me.
Enchanted and Mastermind
I think Enchanted is about Dianna. She mashed it up (Glee did love their mashups didn’t they?) with Wildest Dreams to make a beginning/end version after Dianna’s engagement was announced in 2016.
In the taymoji’s we’ve got the Moroccan lamp from the place Dianna fled to following the Swiftgron break up, electric love, being hypnotized, fear of risk but as she later says “nothing safe is worth the drive.”
Taylor’s given some interviews about the song:
“I started writing that in the hotel room when I got back, because it was just this positive, wistful feeling of ‘I hope you understand just how much I loved meeting you.’ Using the word ‘wonderstruck’ [in the lyrics] was done on purpose, because that’s a word which that person used one time in an e-mail … so I purposely wrote it in the song, so he would know.” - MTV Interview
She tells the same story in this interview.
“I think my favorite part of [‘Enchanted’] is the part where, in the bridge, it goes to sort of a stream of consciousness of ‘Please don’t be in love with someone else/Please don’t have somebody waiting on you.’ Because at that moment, that’s exactly what my thoughts were. And it feels good to write exactly what your thoughts were in a certain moment” - Genius Notes
The original lyrics for Everything Has Changed were ‘When you caught my eye, the look said you’d missed me all this time’ seemingly referring to the same night.
Then in the lyrics we have the clear comparison to how she describes meeting her cowboy/bandit at a boring event and being ‘asked to dance’ and replying ‘dancing is a dangerous game’ compared to ’countering all your quick remarks’ and ‘passing notes in secrecy’. We’ve got the very first fantasy about Dianna showing up at her door, and the clearest one; that completely sold me on this being a Swiftgron song.
‘My thoughts will echo your name, until I see you again’ (Enchanted)
‘Your name has echoed through my mind’ (Treacherous)
In Mastermind, Taylor confesses what she did next.
Once upon a time, the planets and the fates
And all the stars aligned
You and I ended up in the same room
At the same time
And the touch of a hand lit the fuse
Of a chain reaction of countermoves
To assess the equation of you
Checkmate, I couldn't lose
What if I told you none of it was accidental?
And the first night that you saw me, nothing was gonna stop me
I laid the groundwork and then, just like clockwork
The dominoes cascaded in a line
What if I told you I'm a mastermind?
And now you're mine
It was all by design
'Cause I'm a mastermind
The room they ended up in was an event like this, ‘chain reaction of countermoves’ ties it back to ‘countering all your quick remarks.’ Mastermind is, of course, on the Midnights album where all the songs are about sleepless nights in Taylors life. In Enchanted she says ‘The lingering question kept me up, 2 AM, who do you love? I wonder 'til I'm wide awake’ so it’s safe to say that this was one of her sleepless nights.
Then she confesses to scheming to get to see Dianna again which I think references Taylor arranging PR dates with Cory and Chord.
‘Meet me behind the mall’ (August)
Following the Roomies Sketch, the L Chat begins their Taylor Swift Thread
I suspect Taylor and Dianna hung out on the following weekend in Sag Harbor as they both went off the grid. Nothing definitively proves it but the timeline certainly shows it’s possible.
Elephants show up later in the Wildest Dreams music video, and in the Woman lyric video
Dianna is likely still in Long Island and Taylor had to go back to Nashville so I read these posts as meant for Taylor.
‘Went home and tried to stalk you on the internet’ (Paper Rings)
One post is a video of “House of Cards” by Radiohead. The Lyrics of House of Cards starts ‘I don’t want to be your friend, I just want to be your lover’ which seems about right
The other post Dianna makes on the same day says “For you. Yes you” and posted the song “I adore you”. Lyrics for this song include ‘You should know that I’m thinking about what you said when you held my hand, oh I adore you’
She has several other interviews and two tour performances in England on the 23rd and 24th. Taylor is photographed several times leaving her hotel in London in the days leading up to the concerts but I haven’t found any more details about Taylor or Dianna’s whereabouts the days following the concert which is also Thanksgiving weekend.
Perhaps Dianna flew to visit Taylor? Could be the ‘Wednesday in a cafe’ as it would be leading up to the holidays and could lead to discussion about ‘the movies your family watches every Christmas’
Kevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz later confirm on their glee podcast that they met Taylor through Dianna, given that it makes sense to me that by the time she was publicly seen with Cory, Taylor knew Dianna.
Making posts about it to her tumblr on the 19th and the 3rd
During the interview the cast are asked which celebrity they would like to take as their date. Cory Monteith says “I don’t know that’s a hard question” and Chris Copher responds with “Taylor Swift, c’mon.” Everyone laughs, and Cory says he doesn’t know again but he smiles and Mark Salling grins at him.
Dianna kinda glares at him, before relaxing into a smile as her attention shifts to Mark’s answer.
If you’re curious, Dianna says she would bring Christopher Walkin. That closet door is shut tight.
Taylor wins the award for favorite female artist, saying it's a “beautiful way to start off the decade.” Glee wins for favorite new TV comedy and shows their gratitude by sending slices of pizza to everyone in the audience.
“No… this is a pizza.” - Taylor Swift
“Getting back in the studio with the same guys I trust and know and love.. (right, the pointing one: my producer Nathan Chapman) (Left, the waving one: Bass extraordinaire, Tim Marks. Clearly marked on his road case.)” - Quote from Taylor’s old myspace
Likely Enchanted.
Sometime before the start of the glee tour on May 15th Taylor goes to one of the glee cast’s get togethers where an interaction with Dianna inspires the story she dreams up in Mine.
Mine
Swifties are convinced that Mine is about Cory, it’s even in the notes of the Genius lyrics. But of course all the clues point to Dianna.
We’ve got their favorite number 13 along with a joke about starting out as friends in a ‘situationship’, a reference to Dianna’s love of sailing, eternity symbolism, a polaroid camera, and the red balloons that keep popping up in later Swiftgron music videos like 22, End Game, and Joker and the Queen.
Mine is one of only two Taylor Swift songs that were covered by glee, where it’s used as a breakup song, sung by Naya Rivera. Given the show writers tendency to be passive aggressive jerks, I do wonder if that was designed to rub in the Swiftgron breakup. Taylor still had to approve the song being used on the show, but she was a huge gleek so I suspect she was open to it even if it was intended as a jab.
Here are quotes from Taylor’s interviews about the song:
“Lately I’ve had this bad habit of running away from love. Kind of getting to the place where it’s about to commit, and then you just, like, run in the opposite direction. ‘Mine’ is about the idea that I could find someone who would be the exception to that, someone who would be so sturdy and so much of a sure thing that I wouldn’t run from it. Sometimes I look back on a lot of examples that I’ve seen of love, long term, and a lot of times it doesn’t work out. There are goodbyes and people get really hurt, so I tend to be a little ‘run-awayish.’ But I’m never past hoping that at some point that could change. This song is the first single because it has this…there was this moment between Nathan [Chapman] and I, my producer, when I brought this song in and when we made this demo in one day in his basement and we just kinda looked at each other and we were like, ‘This is it. This is the one.” - Genius Notes
“This is a situation where a guy that I just barely knew put his arm around me by the water, and I saw the entire relationship flash before my eyes, almost like a weird science-fiction movie. After I wrote the song, things sort of fell apart, as things so often do. And I hadn’t talked to him in a couple months. And the song came out, and that day, I got an e-mail from him. And I was like, ‘Yes!’ Because that one was sort of half-confession and half-prediction or projection of what I saw.” - MTV Interview
I say, "Can you believe it?" As we're lying on the couch
Do you remember we were sitting there by the water?
You put your arm around me for the first time
I remember that fight, 2:30 a.m
As everything was slipping right out of our hands
I ran out crying and you followed me out into the street
Braced myself for the goodbye
'Cause that's all I've ever known
Then you took me by surprise
You said, "I'll never leave you alone"
You are the best thing that’s ever been mine
‘Do you remember, we were sittin' there by the water? You put your arm around me for the first time’
Swift’s biggest event of 2010, however, will be the 20-year-old’s move from her parents’ house into a spiffy new penthouse condo in Nashville. “I’ll be moving out, living on my own, experiencing relationships,” she says. “All of that will be documented in sort of a photo-album-slash-diary, which will be this next record.” To prepare for living on her own, her dad got her a tool chest for Christmas. “All of his presents were in one genre: hardware,” she says. “At some point in my life on my own, I guess I’ll need a screwdriver.”
I imagine your third album is mostly done.
You know me too well! I’ve written so much for this next record and recorded a bunch of songs already, but I don’t want to give away any of the titles – it’s still too early in the process. I don’t really write for albums as much as I just write for my life and process what I feel, whether that feeling is resentment or hope or happiness or a crush — writing songs helps me get through those moments. I like to have two years between albums, so there’s enough to cover. My first record is my diary until I was 16, Fearless covered 16 to 18, and the next album will cover 18 to 20.
You’re about to move into your dream condo in downtown Nashville. It’ll be tricked out, I imagine.
It’s going to be my fantasy world. There’s a pond in the living room, every cabinet in the kitchen is a different color, and today they’re delivering a human-size bird cage, which I’ll put a brass telescope in. The ceiling of my living room is painted like the night sky.
There’s a pond inside the apartment?
The pond is a moat around the fireplace and may possibly have koi fish in it, depending on my commitment. You step on a stepping stone in the pond in order to get on a spiral staircase, which takes you up to the human-size bird cage observatory.
Was this idea hatched in your brain?
My imagination is a twisted place.
Guess Taylor’s still waiting on Dianna to answer her email.
Her love of this song later inspires Taylor’s lover performance being in a green room in 2019.
Now she’s back in America, she’s also back to trying to get in with the glee cast. Such a schemey smile in that middle picture. I see you baby Tay. She’s even wearing a locket, an ongoing signature of future Swiftgron songs.
The meeting in a cafe from Begin again likely happens around now.
Begin Again
Liner Note: I wear heels now
“It’s about when you’ve gotten through a really bad relationship and you finally dust yourself off and go on that first date after a horrible breakup, and the vulnerability that goes along with all that.” - The Boot
“‘Begin Again is a song that I wrote about getting through a breakup, and still being sad about it, and feeling a little insecure about all the things that relationship made you feel are wrong with yourself. And after months, and months, and months, having the courage to stand back up, dust yourself off, and go on that first date. And it’s about, kind of, the vulnerability involved with that, and the idea that you realize that, 'wow, this could be great.’” - Red Track by Track
‘Replaying your laughter, disaster’ (Message in a Bottle)
Come Back… Be Here
"There's a song I wrote with Dan Wilson called 'Come Back... Be Here,' which I wrote about falling for someone and then they have to go away for work," she tells Yahoo!" They're traveling, you're traveling, and you're thinking about them, but you're wondering how it's gonna work when there's so much distance between you." - Yahoo Entertainment Interview
“It’s a song I wrote about this guy that I met. You know, you meet someone and then they just kinda happen to go away and it’s, like, long distance all of a sudden. And you’re, like, ‘b-b-but, but, come back, be here!’ So it’s a song that I wrote about having distance separate you, which is something I face constantly.” - Red Release Party
I think she’s talking about Story of Us, which was apparently the last track written for Speak Now. Unlikely to be about Dianna because it’s a breakup song and they haven’t reunited yet. In an interview with Brian Mansfield for USA Today, Swift said that the subject behind "The Story of Us" was also that behind "Dear John".
Taylor writes a letter to her band calling the Fearless tour a “golden age.”
‘This is the golden age of something good and right and real’ (State of Grace)
‘Living in a gold age, sneak into my bird cage’ (Cardigan)
A penthouse with a night sky ceiling motif, an indoor moat, and a life sized birdcage.
According to an interview, Dianna emailed Taylor after hearing mine on the day it was released. After that I suspect they developed a complicated friendship full of ‘sensual politics’ but that was undefined, because as the Swiftgron Masterpost shows Dianna was still involved in a more-than-friendship with Lea and possibly Naya too. I think this season of their relationship inspired August.
‘August slipped away like it’s a bottle of wine, cause you were never mine’
Interestingly, it was a Thursday and she’d just landed in Japan, so if she’d gone through LAX she could have met Dianna in a cafe the day before. Alternatively, they could have met up after the awards show back in January but both got too busy touring to keep seeing each other.
Taylor says in a later interview that she’d started writing Red before Speak Now was released.
“...right now I’m having to pick from 30 songs I have and I love. The crash and burn heartbreak is the whole album.”
Ridiculously long hours were common on the glee set.
Intro on her mouth and lips. Like this maybe?
The cast would have been preparing to film the RHPS episode of Glee by now.
Was this cake the inspiration for the ‘have your cake and eat it too’ Mine taymoji? 🤔
I think Taylor was there for some of the filming of Rocky Horror. The 28th particularly seems to be a significant day for them because Taylor later changes the lyrics in her cover of “September” by Earth, Wind and Fire to that. In an October 21st interview she does about Speak Now she mentions that the scene from Mine “flashed before my eyes, almost like a weird science-fiction movie” and in Snow on the Beach she includes:
‘But your eyes are flyin' saucers from another planet, now I'm all for you like Janet, Can this be your real thing? Can it?’
Which seems like a reference not just to ‘All For You’ by Janet Jackson, but Damn it, Janet from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I mean just look at how Swiftgron’y those lyrics are:
We’ve got roads, and fires, and fans and bad puns!
It’s one of Quinn’s best scenes from the episode and Dianna makes sure to celebrate every year.
‘Sequin smile, black lipstick, sensual politics’ (Cardigan)
That bow tie looks sequin to me, and similar to the one in the So It Goes taymojis.
State of Grace
“State of Grace is a song I wrote at the beginning process of making this album, and I think it helps to define what the rest of the record is about, just with one line. There’s a line in the song that says ‘Love is a ruthless game, unless you play it good and right’. That’s kind of like a warning, for the rest of the record. This is what’s going to happen if you don’t play this right. This is what could happen if you do. It almost serves as the perfect kind of warning label for the rest of the record. As soon as you hear that song, there are two ways this could go, you could be good to people, or you could not play fair, and both the outcomes are reflected on the record.” - Taylor
“I wrote this song about when you first fall in love with someone the possibilities, kind of thinking about the different ways that it could go. It’s a really big sound. To me, this sounds like the feeling of falling in love in an epic way” - Taylor
Her smile after performing Mine is rather sweet.
I think Taylor probably wrote Stay Stay Stay around now because its creation date is 2010.
Stay Stay Stay
“The song ‘Stay Stay Stay’ is a song that I wrote based on what I’ve seen of real relationships, where it’s not perfect, there are moments where you’re just so sick of that person, you get into a stupid fight. It’s still worth it to stay in it. There’s something about it that you can’t live without. In the bridge it says, ‘I’d like to hang out with you for my whole life’ and I think that’s what probably the key to finding the one, you just want to hang out with them forever.”
“I went through a few roller coasters. Trying to chronicle each step of the way was challenging, because you go to some really dark places with the lyrics. Then in the next track, you’re talking about how amazing it is to meet somebody new.”
There are some strong reactions to the more risqué photos. Mostly because it’s in character and those characters are 15 or 16.
Lea also tweets an apology a few days later. Neither Cory or the writers do.
An article comes out two days later about Taylor being spotted backstage with Jake G. There are a number of blinds about the relationship being fake. She needed someone public to tie to the songs she was writing for the Red album.
In the deluxe version Taylor wears a bright red dress, like the Glee cheerleader uniforms.
She was describing her songwriting process for Mine when this happened:
Cringey, and that's before he spends a solid minute talking about how she smells.
But I think it’s safe to say Swiftgron was on.
‘So you were never a saint, and I’ve loved in shades of wrong’ (State of Grace)
Message in a Bottle
“Songs for me are like a message in a bottle. You send them out to the world and maybe the person who you feel that way about will hear about it someday.” - Daily Beast Interview
I like to remember this photo when I start feeling bad about Swifties giving him shit about the scarf.
16 December 2010 - Taylor posts about her birthday on myspace
Note she’s emphasizing that her brother made the effort to come back for her birthday.
All Too Well
Okay, let's break down the wonky All Too Well timeline. There are a couple of interviews that indicate All Too Well was recorded before the media narrative says it was:
Interview One, comes from fans at a secret session:
“Mama Swift was telling us how Taylor puts her heart into every song she writes and that the most heart wrenching song she has ever written was All Too Well. This is my all time favorite song so I held on to every word being spoken. She told us that Taylor wrote All Too Well while they were still rehearsing for the Fearless tour in 2010. Taylor came to the stage and everyone could tell she had been crying. Everyone knew she had just gone through a bad breakup but the show must go on. She picked up a guitar and began to play the opening to All Too Well. She sang bits and pieces of it and the band looked around confused because this was a song they didn’t know. Then it dawned on everyone in the room that they didn’t know the song because she was writing it right then and there. Slowly, the band began to join in with her. By the time she got to the part where it goes ‘you called me up again just to break me like a promise,’ Andrea said she was crying and screaming the words. When she was finished, Mama Swift turned to the sound guy and asked if he recorded it and he tearfully said that he did. She kept the song until the Red album because it was still too raw in 2010.”
But the Fearless tour ended on the 10th of July, 2010.
Interview two is from Taylor:
“The first song that was written was ‘All Too Well.’ It was a day when I was just, like, a broken human, walking into rehearsal just feeling terrible about what was going on in my personal life. I just ended up playing four chords over and over again, and the band started kicking in. People just started playing along with me... I think they could tell I was really going through it. I just started singing and riffing and ad-libbing this song that basically was 'All Too Well.’ It literally just was that song, but it had probably seven extra verses and it included the f-word. My sound guy was like, 'Hey, I burned a CD of that thing you were doing in case you want it.’ I ended up taking it home and listening to it. And I was like, I actually really like this, but it definitely is like 10 minutes long and I need to pare it down, so I'm going to call Liz Rose."
But by the end of 2010, Taylor had already written Enchanted, Begin Again, Stay, Stay, Stay (Copyright 2010) and likely State of Grace. She even says in this interview that she’s been ‘writing [Red] since before [Speak Now] came out.’
Both suggest that All Too Well was written around the middle of 2010, so it would have been about her 20th birthday not her 21st. Taylor’s lover diaries include the first draft in early 2011, which goes along with tying it to Jake, but the copyright is for 2010. One of a couple of discrepancies that cause me to treat the Lover diaries with as much skepticism as I do blind items.
If the All Too Well muse was a woman, or someone else inappropriate for Taylor to have publicly dated, then she needed to line up a guy to tie it to. Hence bearding with Jake.
I suspect that All Too Well has blended muses, partly about the same muse as Dear John and The Moment I Knew, and partly about the on and off early stages of her relationship with Dianna. The ten minute version truly is fictionalized.
There’s a another Interview from Liz Rose who wrote All Too Well with Taylor:
“When we did ‘All Too Well,’ I hadn’t heard from her in awhile. She hadn’t really been writing. I was in Nashville one day, slowly moving the last bits of junk out of my garage so I could move to Dallas. My house had already sold, so I had to come back and clean it out. I had a trailer and four guys helping me, and I was sick with some kind of sinus infection. It was just the worst day. I was in my driveway and my phone rings, and it’s Taylor saying, ‘Man, I’ve got this thing and I really need you to help me with it. Can you write today? What are you doing today?’ So I gave those guys the keys to my storage place, told them to put all my stuff into storage and drove over to Taylor’s.”
2010 Conclusion:
Taylor and Dianna met. Taylor was “wonderstruck,” and has been trying to spend more time with her since. She likely managed it a few times in LA when Dianna wasn’t on the glee tour, but for the most part it's been a lot of long distance pining as we see in Stay Stay Stay, Message in a Bottle and Come Back… Be Here.
Taylor wins favorite country artist and thanks her fans with a slightly pointed speech:
“To the fans, this award coming from you is such a showing of love and you know, I wanna thank you so much for always being people I can count on and I just appreciate this- this love so much because I love you too. Thank you for everything!”
It’s possible she’s mad at Dianna for missing her birthday, but it’s more likely that she’s playing up the All Too Well narrative.
Glee won Favorite TV Comedy, and Jane Lynch was named Favorite TV Comedy Actress.
Photos of Taylor with Cory, Jane and a star-struck Chris were taken backstage.
A connection that Taylor has gone on to signal many times in her music videos.
The liner note for Red is “SAG,” which is presumably to tie it to Jake Gyllenhall who’s a Sagitarius, but more likely about this night.
But we’ve already debunked this.
As soon as she’s done with the last show, Taylor rushes back to LA.
Likely keen to see someone.
A blind item comes out soon after to confirm that they’re stunting.
9. BUZZFOTO 03/03
This celebrity couple is getting a lot of buzz but like so many other couples out there that have folks fooled, this relationship is also a setup. Arranged by publicists and management. Each celebrity in the arrangement gets something out of it. He gets a piece of what he’s wanted for a really long time and she gets to ride on all the extra publicity. We love both of the young stars, but can’t believe anyone is really buying it. No matter how sincere they might seem.
Chord Overstreet/Taylor Swift
Taylor arrived with Emma Stone and Ashley Avignone, and took photos with Selena Gomez and Gweneth Paltrow among others.
Dianna also attended but there’s no record of Swiftgron interacting in public.
Dianna spend a decent amount of the night posing for photos with Lea, who came with her gay friend and costar. WhatIWillSay’s Swiftgron Masterpost goes into detail about the relationship between Dianna and Lea (Achelle) which seems to be on at this point.
More yellow fake date notes.
"The weirdest place I have ever written a song is probably in an airport, and I got an idea so fast that I had to run to the bathroom at the airport, grab a paper towel and write lyrics on the paper towel. I still have it. I still have it in a box in my room."
“Taylor, 21, has also started writing tracks for the follow up to her 'Speak Now' album during her recent European tour, and has given details of one song she penned in Spain while her emotions were running high.”
She added: "I was in Madrid, and I was in my hotel room all day. And I was going through this crazy, emotional thing and I wrote a song about it and it'll probably be on the next record. I'm telling you that. I'll tell you the title afterwards."
This series of photos where Taylor and Dianna share clothes from Dianna’s glee wardrobe has long been used as indicators of Swiftgron being on. Even magazine articles have referenced this as a cute example of their public friendship. I’ve been able to narrow down the dates for several of them.
Presumably that day, based on the outfit; Taylor covers “White Blank Page” by Mumford & Sons.
Oh the irony.
Lyrics:
Can you lie next to her
And give her your heart, your heart
As well as your body
And can you lie next to her
And confess your love, your love
As well as your folly
And can you kneel before the king
And say I'm clean, I'm clean
But tell me now, where was my fault
In loving you with my whole heart
Oh, tell me now, where was my fault
In loving you with my whole heart
A white blank page and a swelling rage, rage
You did not think when you sent me to the brink, to the brink
You desired my attention but denied my affections, my affections
So tell me now, where was my fault
In loving you with my whole heart
Oh tell me now, where was my fault
In loving you with my whole heart
Lead me to the truth and I will follow you with my whole life
Oh, lead me to the truth and I will follow you with my whole life
The sadness of the performance suggests something went wrong during her break in LA, and she’s feeling like ‘a new notch in [Dianna’s] belt.’ Possibly writing I Almost Do?
Toxic?
Alright, let’s address the rumors that Dianna is/was “toxic” that get thrown around the Gaylorverse. That idea is based on songs like Better Man, IKYWT and WANEGBT. The last two are definitely about Dianna, and written out of the hurt that Taylor felt during this period, but Better Man is more likely about the Dear John muse.
In a 2021 interview about Shiva Baby, Dianna said that she was ‘struggling with the dynamics’ of growing up in the spotlight while ‘discovering who she was as a person and her sexuality’. Being a famous, closeted celebrity in an extremely toxic work environment, working ridiculous hours and touring all over the world is going to make things hard. Dealing with all of that in your early twenties sounds like a nightmare. I think Taylor better shows their early relationship in the beginning of Cardigan and throughout August.
In Cardigan she talks about feeling appreciated and valued in comparison to how she felt in her last relationship, even while feeling a bit ‘put on’.
‘When I felt like I was an old cardigan, under someone's bed, you put me on and said I was your favorite’ (Cardigan)
During LPSS she said about August:
”She seems like she’s a bad girl but really she’s not a bad girl, she's like really a sensitive person who really fell for him and she was trying to seem cool and seem like she didn’t care cause that’s what girls have to do, and she was trying to let him think that she didn’t care but she really did and she thought they had something very real. And then he goes back to Betty! So the idea that there's some like some bad villain girl in any type of situation like takes your man is actually a total myth because that's not usually the case at all. Like everybody has feelings and wants to be seen and loved and Augustine that’s all she wanted.”
After that, Jack tries to reel her back in by talking about how the story is about fictional characters, and it is but like always Taylor’s imprinted her own feelings on the music. So I think that shows that Taylor was trying to play it cool with Dianna, agreeing that they can sleep together while being “just friends” while very much wanting to be more than that. Dianna was still on Lea’s hook, and because of that, she wasn’t able to be as invested as Taylor wanted but there’s still a lot of sweetness in August:
‘Salt air, and the rust on your door, I never needed anything more, Whispers of "Are you sure?" "Never have I ever before" (August)
It was messy. Dianna was foolish, Taylor should have said what she wanted, but they were both kids stuck ‘meeting behind them all’. It’s not something Taylor looks back on with bitterness, like she seems to with the Dear John muse. So we shouldn’t either.
Talks about spending a few weeks in LA for filming, buying a record player at Target.
According to a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon, Jessica Chastain was seated beside Ryan Murphy when she met Taylor Swift.
As far as I can tell they don’t interact at the party, but Karlie and Dianna end up in the same photo. I suspect that Red dress had an impact on Taylor because she’s put her in Red dresses in a number of her music videos.
She says she writes whenever she’s inspired and that she’s been “constantly writing lately.”
Which is from Alanis Morisette’s “You Learn”
Which is from Faith Hill’s “This Kiss”
Key Quotes from the article:
“When she’s on tour, she watches TV on her computer: “Teen Mom,” “C.S.I.” (on which she has guest-starred), and, recently, History Channel documentaries. “I’m just so obsessed with the whole history of J.F.K. and R.F.K.,” she said. She recently announced that she had completed a nine-hundred-page book called “The Kennedy Women.” (Hinting Starlight?)
Taylor describes the album as being about “love, and unrequited love, and love that didn’t last, or love that you wish had lasted, or love that never even got started.”
In Detroit, Swift seemed somewhat melancholy. Once in a while, I had the feeling that she was on the verge of bursting into tears. She said that she had recently decided that life is “about achieving contentment. . . . You’re not always going to be ridiculously happy.” She had written about ten songs so far for her next album. Asked to characterize them, she said, “They’re sad? If I’m being honest.” The most recent one, she said, “is about moving on.”
So, Swiftgron are still off and Taylor’s bummed about it.
By my count the songs she’s written so far are: All Too Well, Better Man, The Moment I Knew, Begin Again, State of Grace, Stay Stay Stay, Come Back...Be Here, Message in a Bottle
During a show in Toronto, Canada, Dianna comes out on stage in a LIKES GIRLS shirt instead of her normal one during the Born This Way performance. The Swiftgron Masterpost does a great job of analyzing what happened and its impact on Dianna’s relationship with Lea.
Those cuffed sleeves!
That night she pens a 1600 word essay responding to the excited fans who thought she’d just come out. After discussing the significance of queer acceptance and how hard it is to see the homophobic response to the show she says she ‘wanted to do something to show my respect and love for the GLBT community. Support that people could actually see.’
“Raise your hand if you’ve spent nights crying yourself to sleep, raise your hand if you’ve felt as if you’d rather hide in bed all day than face the people that make you feel small or powerless! Raise your hand if you’ve felt as if you’d rather lie to people than tell them the truth about who you really are, because at least you wouldn’t be the victim of hateful behavior or prejudice! And raise your hand if lying feels almost as bad.”
“No, I am not a lesbian, yet if I were, I hope that the people in my life could embrace it whole-heartedly.”
This blind, published years later gives us some insight into what happened.
348. BLIND GOSSIP 10/28
This actress is a true triple threat whose talents were showcased as one of the leads on a popular TV show. Our actress has had several handsome boyfriends, so it may surprise you to learn that her relationship with her current beau… was cooked up in a publicist’s office and is totally fake! Why does she need to be in a faux relationship? Because she is gay. In fact, during the production of the TV show, she was actually involved on and off with another female cast member! That relationship was kept quiet because the other girl was also involved in a fake dating relationship for publicity reasons. The show strongly discouraged both women from saying or doing anything publicly that might tip off fans to the fact that they were not heterosexuals like their characters. It’s not that the producers were homophobic. Indeed, the show itself featured openly-gay cast members. These two women just weren’t supposed to be two of them. They were asked to maintain a certain image both on and off the show. Since this was the first big, successful project for both of them, they willingly complied. However, after a couple of years, our actress started feeling uncomfortable with the charade, and decided to make a move to come out herself in conjunction with the show. It started with a silly stunt where she traded costumes with another cast member. The producers were furious! How dare she jeopardize her character and the show! The next day she was suddenly “sick” and did not show up for work. The truth is that they suspended her for one day and threatened to fire her if she pulled any more stunts like that. The incident itself was explained away as simply her way of supporting the LGBT community. Needless to say, she was not happy about that. In fact, that incident practically broke her. She retreated back into the closet… where she has remained ever since.
Show: “Glee”
Actress: Dianna Agron (film, television, stage)
Current boyfriend: Mumford and Sons’ Winston Marshall
Other actress: Lea Michele (Broadway actor Theo Stockman)
I think one of the recent songs is Sad Beautiful Tragic, which was written on tour during 2011. The other is I Bet You Think About Me.
Sad Beautiful Tragic (guess)
“‘Sad Beautiful Tragic’ is really close to my heart. I remember it was after a show and I was on the bus thinking about this relationship that ended months and months before. The feeling wasn’t sadness and anger or those things anymore. It was wistful loss. And so I just got my guitar and I hit on the fact that I was thinking in terms of rhyming; I rhymed magic with tragic, changed a few things and ended it with what a sad beautiful tragic love affair. I wanted to tell the story in terms of a cloudy recollection of what went wrong. It’s kind of the murky gray, looking back on something you can’t change or get back.” - Billboard Interview
The Liner Note is “While you were on a train” and since I’m confident it’s a Swiftgron song, I suspect it’s a reference to the line ‘Just a small town girl, livin' in a lonely world, she took the midnight train going anywhere’ from Don’t Stop Believing. If I’m right about the liner note, then Dianna being ‘on the train’ places the songwriting about now since the tour’s almost over. It would make sense for Dianna to be on her mind, since wearing the LIKES GIRLS shirt had made headlines everywhere.
I Bet You Think About Me
“I Bet You Think About Me’ is a song I wrote with Lori McKenna, who is one of my favorite singer-songwriters ever. I’d always wanted to work with her. And I wrote this with her at her house when I was playing Foxboro Stadium on the Speak Now Tour [in June 2011]. We wanted this song to be like a comedic, tongue in cheek, funny, not caring what anyone thinks about you sort of break up song, because there are a lot of different types of heartbreak songs on Red. Some of them are very sincere, some of them are very stoic and heartbreaking and sad. We wanted this to be the moment where I was like, ‘I don’t care about anything.’ And we wanted to make people laugh with it, and we wanted it to be sort of a drinking song, and I think that that’s what it ended up being.” - Country Radio Interview
“(She had) two sold-out nights at Gillette Stadium, and she showed up at my house, day of the first show with this song. She pretty much had the “I Bet You Think…” She had the title. She had what she wanted to say. She kind of just wanted somebody to bounce stuff off of… And it’s one of those real fun co-writes where you’re just the cheerleader. You’re the coffee maker. You’ll get a sandwich if they need to eat or something, but you’re there for moral support… She just wrote this song, and we sang it maybe once, and I typed the lyrics, and she jumped in a car, went to the show.” - CMT Interview
(Has to be between 30-2 June based on performance dates)
“I also hung out a lot with Dianna outside of the group. Dianna was born fancy. She’s like Madonna- one day, she’d show up with a British accent, and you wouldn’t even question it. Because, hello- it’s Dianna. I nicknamed her Elizabeth Taylor because of her many male suitors (which I entirely approved of- have you seen how hot some of the guys she’s dated are?) We traveled by ourselves, and the first time I ever went to Paris was with Dianna. We were in Europe for the Glee tour and had two days off, so we were like, “Screw it, let’s go!”
“Dianna wore a pink wig the whole time, and talked to everyone and got us into all these swanky places- not because anyone knew who we were, but just because she worked her magic on them and charmed us right past the velvet ropes. We wandered the side streets, shopped at markets, and hung out in cafes with art students. We smoked nonstop (when in Paris…), ate ham and cheese baguettes, and drank white wine out of a box. Oui, oui, oui- it was truly the perfect way to do Paris.” - Naya Rivera (Sorry, Not Sorry)
Likely a response to her attempt to come out during the glee tour, conveniently a NYC boyfriend places her in the same area that Taylor tours in the coming week.
The next day Dianna is photographed with Sebastian Stan, wearing the same dress.
They were reported to be ‘private’ about their relationship, which honestly feels like Hollywood code for fake most of the time, before reports that they broke up by early december.
A gossip blogger, who claims to have freelanced for Dianna’s PR firm says that they were bearding, and that Dianna is a lesbian.
I suspect during this week Dianna and Taylor reunited. Dianna filmed her appearance on the Letterman show on the first of August, and was mentioned as having spent time with her ‘new boyfriend’ in New York throughout the month.
The arm lyric has major Style energy, and she wore Dianna’s dress at the meet and greet and performed I Want You Back by the Jackson Five which she also puts on the Speak Now Live 2011 album.
Cruel Summer was either written about summer 2011 or summer 2012. Guessing 2011 because they were still hyper secret.
Cruel Summer - Analysis
“This song is one that I wrote about the feeling of a summer romance, and how often times a summer romance can be layered with all these feelings of, like, pining away and sometimes even secrecy. It deals with the idea of being in a relationship where there’s some element of desperation and pain in it, where you’re yearning for something that you don’t quite have yet, it’s just right there, and you just, like, can’t reach it. So, this has some of my favorite lyrics on it, and it was so fun to write this. Jack and Annie [Clark] did the track and a lot of the instrumentation, and I did the topline in whatever language that is. A topline is all the notes and the lyrics you hear. So whatever you would sing, that is what I wrote on this. It was just so fun to write this one and I really love this one. Jack and I like to do ranting bridges. Like in “Out of the Woods” where the bridge is the biggest moment of the song — we revisited that concept.” - iHeartRadio
I wrote this song with two people I’m a huge fan of, Jack Antonoff and Annie Clark of St. Vincent. I wanted this song to feel like a desperate summer love that might be doomed from the start. My favourite line from this song is, “I love you. Ain’t that the worst thing you ever heard?” - Genius Notes
‘Don’t you dream impossible dreams?’ (Starlight)
She wore these heart glasses a lot around now.
Lyrics excerpt:
Oh it's so confusing
Yeah I wish you'd just confess
But think of what I'd be losing
If your answer wasn't yes.
It's so complicated
I'm so frustrated
I wanna hold you close,
I wanna push you away,
I wanna make you go,
I wanna make you stay,
Should I say it
Should I tell you how I feel
Oh I want you to know
But then again I don't
So complicated.
I hate it, 'cause I've waited
So long for someone like you.
Her arm lyric reads “Don’t worry baby, everything will turn out alright” from “Don’t Worry Baby” by The Beach Boys
Her arm lyric reads “But my heart cried out for you, California” from “California” by Joni Mitchell
Her arm lyric reads “Love actually is all around.” from “Love Is All Around” by The Troggs
Both the songs and the arm lyrics are a beacon for Dianna.
The fan arm lyrics page notes that the lyrics are intended to reference Taylor’s “all-time favorite movie Love Actually.” Love Actually is also Dianna’s go to Christmas movie. (You start to talk about the movies that your family watches every Christmas (Begin Again).
Taylor, of course, later names one of her own songs This Love, and Bette Davis Eyes is likely a reference to Dianna’s glee character who was based in part on Betty Davis.
“I watched All About Eve for Quinn’s look and attitude. All the Eve actresses wore fake eyelashes, so my character does too to add a little kick.” - Dianna Agron
The 27th was a Saturday, (Playing hide and seek and giving me your weekends (Cardigan) and Dianna was definitely in town because Glee was filming and she was at a Hot Topic for the Glee Mall Tour the next day. Less than a week later they have their meet up at the Fairfax Flea Market, so I’m betting she was at this show. I’ve included the lyrics for both songs in full.
Two lyrics really stick out to me “roll you like you were dice” which I think may have inspired ‘Devils roll the dice, Angels roll their eyes’ (Cruel Summer) and “repair your broken wings” which I think could have inspired ‘Will it patch your broken wings?’ (Betty).
Following those songs, she launches into a rather proud version of the chorus of You Belong With Me before heading into the crowd to hug some fans.
She later wrote Babe with Pat Monohan of Train.
Lyrics:
Now that she's back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair
She acts like summer and walks like rain
Reminds me that there's a time to change, hey
Since the return of her stay on the moon
She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey
Hey, hey, yeah
But tell me, did you sail across the sun?
Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded
And that Heaven is overrated?
And tell me, did you fall for a shooting star?
One without a permanent scar, and did you miss me
While you were looking for yourself out there?
Now that she's back from that soul vacation
Tracing her way through the constellation, hey, mmm
She checks out Mozart while she does Tae-Bo
Reminds me that there's a room to grow, hey, yeah
Now that she's back in the atmosphere
I'm afraid that she might think of me as
Plain ol' Jane told a story about a man
Who was too afraid to fly, so he never did land
But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet?
Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
And head back to the Milky Way?
And tell me, did Venus blow your mind?
Was it everything you wanted to find, and did you miss me
While you were looking for yourself out there?
Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken
Your best friend always sticking up for you
Even when I know you're wrong?
Can you imagine no first dance, freeze-dried romance
Five hour phone conversation
The best soy latte that you ever had, and me?
But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet?
Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
And head back toward the Milky Way?
And tell me, did you sail across the sun?
Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded
And that Heaven is overrated?
And tell me, did you fall for a shooting star?
One without a permanent scar, and then you miss me
While you were looking for yourself?
Na-na, na-na, na-na
Na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na
And did you finally get the chance
To dance along the light of day?
Na-na, na-na, na-na
Na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na
And did you fall for a shooting star?
Fall for a shooting star?
Na-na, na-na, na-na
Na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na
And are you lonely looking for yourself out there?
Taylor also does a Youtube Presents interview where she talks about writing for the next record, and reading “The Kennedy Women!” which influences writing Starlight.
Ashley Avignone and Dianna’s brother Jason are there with them and Dianna’s wearing her heart glasses.
Arm Lyric: 'Tell me everything I want to hear, like it was your favorite year' (Favorite Year by the Dixie Chicks)
Perhaps why they later feature in ME!
While it's reported as if they just happened to run into each other and were introduced by their mutual friend Ashley, this picture of a professional photographer shows that it was planned. Otherwise I’d assume Taylor’s security would have an issue with a guy following her around with a huge camera.
I think they wanted to establish a public “friendship” so that they had plausible deniability to be seen together going forward.
The lyric video for Red is 3:41 long, which pretty clearly makes it about Dianna. A song about their first messy attempts at a relationship now that they’re actually together.
“This relationship that I had that was, like, the worst thing ever and the best thing ever at the same time. I was writing this song and I was thinking about correlating the colors to the different feelings I went through. You have the great part of red, like the red emotions that are daring and bold and passion and love and affection. And then you have on the other side of the spectrum, jealousy and anger and frustration and ‘you didn’t call me back’ and ‘I need space.” - Taylor for VH1 Storytellers
Quotes from the interview (which came out January 2012):
“The only time in my life I have ever been starstruck was meeting Caroline and Ethel Kennedy,” she says. “I got to spend the afternoon with Ethel a couple of weeks ago. She is one of my favorites because you look back at the pictures of her and Bobby and they always look like they are having the most fun out of everybody. You know, eleven kids, all these exotic animals on their property. I’ve read a lot about them.”
More hinting at Starlight.
“Swift splits her rare days off between her condo in Nashville (“very Alice in Wonderland imaginarium”) and a little cottage she recently bought in Beverly Hills (“cozy, Anthropologie, grandma chic”). She’s been spending time in L.A. because she’s quietly looking for the right role in the right movie.”
“Swift spots a photo tacked on the wall of a model in one of Gurung’s dresses. “I love Karlie Kloss,” she says and touches the picture. “I want to bake cookies with her!”
“When I ask her if she is seeing anyone, she says, “I got nothing going on! I just don’t really feel like dating. I really have this great life right now, and I’m not sad and I’m not crying this Christmas, so I am really stoked about that.” Were you crying last Christmas? “I am not gonna go into it! It’s a sad story!”
“There’s just been this earth-shattering, not recent, but absolute crash-and-burn heartbreak,” she says, “and that will turn out to be what the next album is about. The only way that I can feel better about myself—pull myself out of that awful pain of losing someone—is writing songs about it to get some sort of clarity.” Swift’s music is not exactly straight diary entry—it’s cleverer than that—but somehow the specifics of her past relationships continue to have a universal appeal. When I ask her if she can detail a few things she’s learned along the way, she seems delighted to play along. “I have red flags now,” she says.
1. “If someone doesn’t seem to want to get to know me as a person but instead seems to have kind of bought into the whole idea of me and he approves of my Wikipedia page? And falls in love based on zero hours spent with me? That’s maybe something to be aware of. That will fade fast. You can’t be in love with a Google search.”
2. “If a dude is threatened by the fact that I need security, if they make me feel like I am some sort of princessy diva—that’s a bad sign. I don’t have security to make myself look cool, or like I have an entourage. I have security because there’s a file of stalkers who want to take me home and chain me to a pipe in their basement.”
3. “If you need to put me down a lot in order to level the playing field or something? If you are threatened by some part of what I do and want to cut me down to size in order to make it even? That won’t work either.”
4. “Also, I can’t deal with someone who’s obsessed with privacy. People kind of care if there are two famous people dating. But no one cares that much. If you care about privacy to the point where we need to dig a tunnel under this restaurant so that we can leave? I can’t do that.”
Mentioning Alice in Wonderland is interesting. She’s spending more time in LA because that’s where Dianna is, but a movie would make a good cover. Still not sure if she’s still seeding All Too Well, or if she was actually sad over Christmas 2010. The red flags seem to mostly be about the Dear John / All Too Well muse, but the Taymoji’s for Red do include a red flag so it might have been Taylor insisting that if they were going to try again it couldn’t be ‘meeting behind the mall.’ The other ones really don’t apply, Dianna’s not starstruck by Taylor, if anything it was the other way around. Being one of the stars of Glee was pretty on par with Taylor’s Speak Now era level of fame as a country music artist.
Taylor covers “Love Like Crazy” (the song her arm lyric is from) and performs “That’s What You Get” with Hayley Williams of Paramore. It’s a song Taylor and Liz loved when they went to a Paramore Concert together.
Possible inspiration for Question?
‘Can I ask you a question? Did you ever have someone kiss you in a crowded room and every single one of your friends was making fun of you but 15 seconds latеr they were clapping too? Thеn what did you do?’ (Question..?)
A later interview could illuminate what happened, assuming “Styles” is a stand in for Dianna:
“Swift’s friend said that the Styles situation is completely misrepresented in the media. This young woman claimed that Styles “chased” Swift for a year. “He wore her down.” And then, last spring, she said, there was a weekend “where they got really close, and he was all, like, ‘You’re amazing—I want to be with you. I want to do this.’ ' Soon after that, when Styles was on tour in Australia with One Direction, he allegedly texted Swift to alert her to a picture of himself on the Internet “kissing a friend good-bye,” but said, “It’s no big deal.” When Swift searched online for the picture, however, she found that they were “making out like with their hands all up in each other’s hair.”
Arm Lyrics: “And I never saw blue like that before. Across the sky. Around the world.” – Shawn Colvin, “Never Saw Blue Like That Before”
This time being teased about a Marylin Monroe moment where the wind machine blew up her chiffon dress and revealed her tan shorts as Taylor makes sure to emphasize.
She also talks about how much she loves cats and wants one, prompting some subtle jokes about kitties.
“I for real don’t have a boyfriend. I sit by myself and I watch Law and Order. I don’t even have, like, kind of a boyfriend. I don’t have someone that I’m texting, that's a guy that might someday be my boyfriend. There’s like nothing going on right now.”
“I want to be the girl, who like, when she falls in love, it's like a big deal and it’s a rare thing.”
Ellen gives her some real sage advice.
Liner note for Holy Ground: When you came to the show in SD
Dianna was at the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund Celebration in LA with one of the Glee writers, but could possibly have still made the show in the evening? (Seems probable since she wears another one of Dianna’s dresses two weeks later.)
An attempt to make up?
I Knew You Were Trouble
November - Taylor writes the chorus
“I Knew You Were Trouble” was an idea that I got almost six months before I was scheduled to write with Max Martin, and I e-mailed him and said, “I just got this idea, I can’t wait to bring it to you. I know that we’re not writing for a few months, but I just need you to know I thought of this thing. I can’t wait for you to hear it.” I have never written a song like that, where it’s like, “It’s not shame on you you broke my heart, it’s shame on me you broke my heart. I saw the red flags from the first second.” You feel so stupid… But it’s got that chaotic sound in it, it’s got that really bold edge to it, where the song sounds like what that feeling felt.” - Red Track by Track
“It’s a song about kind of being frustrated with yourself because you have your heart broken and you knew when you first saw that person you saw all these red flags and you just went for it anyway. So, shame on me.” - Genius Notes
“I’m excited about telling the beginnings of stories, like the story of this song called ‘Ours,’ where I wrote it about this guy nobody thought I should be with. So I wrote this song specifically just to play it for him, just to show him, ‘I don’t care what anyone says. I don’t care that you have tattoos. I don’t care that you have a di- gap between your teeth. I love you for who you are.’ And that song ended up actually making it on [Speak Now] and becoming a #1 song.” - VH1 Interview
This could be a reference to Hope For the Flowers, a book Dianna loves and once recommended in an interview. She seems to have loved it enough to get a tattoo of the sketch she mentions.
I bought the book and wrote a summary here.
She also won the awards for favorite country album and favorite country female artist.
The tour doesn’t begin again until March 2012.
Dianna doesn’t tweet for her birthday.
“I love Karlie Kloss,” she says, touching a photo of her. “I want to bake cookies with her!” And if anyone can make this happen, it’s Vogue. Heck, they could even invite Sarah along, too!” - Taylor
She’s already wearing sunflowers and daisies, because Taylor is the daisy.
Taylor doesn’t respond to Dianna.
Holy Ground
“The song ‘Holy Ground’ was a song that I wrote about the feeling I got after years had gone by and I finally appreciated a past relationship for what it was, rather than being bitter about what it didn’t end up being. And I was sitting there thinking about it after I’d just seen him and I just, I was just like, ‘You know what, that was good. It was, it was good, having that in my life’, and I wrote the song and I immediately heard Jeff Bhasker’s production. I hadn’t ever worked with Jeff, but he has done some amazing work. I love what he’s done on Fun’s record, and I love his diversity. He’s just so talented, and so I called him and I said “I wrote this song. I really want you to work on it with me.” And I played it for him and he was like, “Let’s go! This is great!” And, and he did such an amazing job on it.”
Would it have been two years since she met Dianna, and right after seeing her again at a party post breakup over the Naya kiss? She’s likely warping the timeline to tie it to Jake Gyllanhall.
Taylor writes Nothing New on a plane.
The girls also go to the beach and take this picture:
Nothing New
“[I wrote the song when I was 22] and it’s really, really special to me because it was the first time I was not a shiny new artist. I was on my fourth album and I felt like… I think this happens to a lot of artists where they have their breakthrough moment and then the moment after that is really hard for them because they are just not getting the same [reactions from people because you are no longer something ‘new’].” - Interview with Seth Myers
‘And they tell you that you’re lucky, but you’re so confused ‘cause you don’t feel pretty, you just feel used and all the young things line up to take your place’ (The Lucky One)
‘All of my heroes die all alone, help me hold on to you’ (The Archer)
Taylor’s diary entry mentioned learning how to play A Case of You, here are the lyrics.
A Case Of You
Just before our love got lost you said
"I am as constant as a northern star"
And I said, "Constantly in the darkness
Where's that at?
If you want me I'll be in the bar"
On the back of a cartoon coaster
In the blue TV screen light
I drew a map of Canada
Oh, Canada
With your face sketched on it twice
Oh, you're in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling
And I would still be on my feet
Oh, I would still be on my feet
Oh, I am a lonely painter
I live in a box of paints
I'm frightened by the devil
And I'm drawn to those ones that ain't afraid
I remember that time you told me
You said, "Love is touching souls"
Surely you touched mine
'Cause part of you pours out of me
In these lines from time to time
Oh, you're in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling
Still I'd be on my feet
I would still be on my feet
I met a woman
She had a mouth like yours
She knew your life
She knew your devils and your deeds
And she said, "Go to him, stay with him if you can
But be prepared to bleed"
Oh, but you are in my blood
You're my holy wine
You're so bitter
Bitter and so sweet
Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling
Still I'd be on my feet
I would still be on my feet
Likely talking to Taylor again. Holy Ground already indicates that Taylor’s reminiscing more fondly.
The Lucky One
“The ‘Lucky One’ is a song I wrote while I was in Australia. It kind of talks about some of my fears through telling the story of other people that I was inspired by. More than their stories being told, I’m pretty much singing about what I’m scared of in that song, ending up kind of caught up in this whole thing and lonely and feeling misunderstood and feeling like when people think you’re lucky that you’re really not. It kind of expresses my greatest fear of having this not end up being fun anymore, having it end up being a scary place. Some people get there, some people end up there. It’s a story song and it’s something I’m really proud of because it kind of goes to a place that I’m terrified of.
Being famous can be fun at first, but people have ended up in a scary place over time. Everybody’s got their way of dealing with it. And for me, sometimes it’s surrounding myself with my friends and venting, sometimes it’s staying up at the piano until four o'clock in the morning, sometimes it’s watching TV and forgetting about all of it, sometimes it’s calling my mother up and crying. Sometimes you have a really bad day.
Your life is constantly also analyzed. There’s a lot of trade-offs. There’s the microscope that’s always on you. The camera flashes, the fear that something you say will be taken the wrong way and you’ll let your fans down. There’s the fear that you’ll be walking down the street and your skirt will blow up and you’ll be in the news for three months.
You’re scared of a lot of things for a lot of the time, but the trade-off of being able to get on a big stage and sing your songs — it’s worth it." - Genius Notes
1 Heart 4 - 143 reference.
It rained all day on the 25th.
‘All I know is pouring rain’ (Everything Has Changed)
Original Lyrics:
All I feel in my stomach is butterflies for a Gemini
Who’d never tell a lie
The beautiful kind saying “This feels right"
Making me feel like falling for a Gemini - Dianna is a Taurus, but her Venus sign (planet of love) is Gemini
This feels right
Making me feel like I just want to know you better, grow old together, hold you forever
When you caught my eye
The look said you’d missed me all this time
Meet me there tonight
So I can know it’s not all in my mind
‘Didn’t it all seem new and exciting?’ (Wonderland)
Another reason to believe Taylor and Dianna have been together for a while at this point. Meeting the parents isn’t something you do right after a first date, but it might be if you’ve been texting for months while you’re apart and planning to start over with commitment this time.
You Don’t Know You’re Beautiful Performance
This Love
Liner Note: Timing is a funny thing
“I think the one that I kept going back to, over and over and over again, is a song called ‘This Love,’ actually. It’s a song that I wrote by myself. It’s kind of like hypnotic in a way, and it kind of is somewhat romantic and wistful and relaxing.”
“The last time I wrote a poem that ended up being a song, I was writing in my journal and I was writing about something that had happened in my life – it was about a year ago – and I just wrote this really really short poem, it said “This love is good / this love is bad / this love is alive back from the dead / these hands had to let it go free / and this love came back to me” and I just wrote it down and closed the book and put it back on my night stand […] All of a sudden in my head I just started hearing this melody happen, and then I realized that it was going to be a song.”
Taylor wins Entertainer of the Year, they make a joke about her dating Tim Tebow and she looks confused. Ashley looks like she’s trying not to laugh.
Taylor, Dianna, Ashley and Emma Stone head to New York where Dianna has an interview to film for the view.
Dianna is on The View in New York
Treacherous (Date based on this)
“I wrote ‘Treacherous’ with Dan Wilson, and we came up with a way to say, you know, ‘This is dangerous and I realize that I might get hurt if I go through with this, if I move forward with you. But… but I want to.’ You know? It’s like that kind of conflicted feeling of it being a risk every time you fall in love — especially with certain types of people. [Laughs] That was a song that I’m really proud of, because it’s got this bridge that sounds like a second chorus. It’s got all these big vocals, and it’s kind of the intensity of that moment when you’re deciding to let yourself fall in love with someone.” - Taylor
From a Dan Wilson Interview “With Taylor, we had been kind of circling around, very much aware of each other’s work for a while. We figured out these two days to work together and she came to my studio super excited and said, “I had an idea in the car.” And she sang me the first three or four lines of it and said, “I want to call it ‘Treacherous’ and maybe the chorus can go like this.” And we were writing the song in 10 minutes and she was just so full of excitement.”
While she’s interviewing with Jimmy he asks her about the Tim Tebow rumor. She explains that they’re signed with the same company and that leads to one of the loudest Swiftgron moments where she copies a joke from Taylor’s 2009 SNL monologue song.
She also says that they’re “just friends” complete with air quotes.
Throwback photo posted a year later.
Trying to subtly show off the ring she’s wearing on the fourth finger of her left hand. There have long been rumors that Dianna proposed to Taylor. Ones she seemed to confirm in LWYMMD with the ring box in the Cat Bandit vault, with the rejected proposal in ME! and Bejeweled and the lyrics of several songs:
‘I want you for worse or for better’ (How You Get The Girl)
‘He wanted a bride, I was making my own name’ (Midnight Rain)
‘Sometimes you just don’t know the answer, till someones on their knees and asking’ (Champagne Problems)
“Sitting in my kitchen. Listening to music. Don't want to go to bed.Was in the studio tonight. Writing tomorrow. Should go to bed. Ok I will.”
Taylor gets spotted shopping for lingerie.
Later Taylor includes the visuals from this night in her Clean performance, furthering the rejected proposal rumors.
That night everyone tweets about the party.
At 2am in the morning Dianna tweets (originally with #DATEME but she changed it):
‘Dance in the kitchen, chase me down through the hallway’ (The Very First Night)
‘When we decided, we decided to move the furniture so we could dance’ (Out of the Woods)
The next day Dianna tweets “Let's Dance”.
‘‘I thought we had no chance and that's romance, let's dance’ (Glitch)
‘And you asked me to dance but I said, "Dancin' is a dangerous game" (Cowboy Like Me)
‘But I don't wanna dance If I'm not dancing with you’ (Holy Ground)
And Taylor sleeps in.
‘Sleep in half the day, just for old times sake’ (Tis the Damn Season)
Taylor posts a series of photos. The song is sad as hell, but they seem fine so I guess it’s just a case of liking sad songs. The lyrics have some parallels to ones Taylor writes later though.
Screaming Infidelities
I'm missing your bed
I never sleep
Avoiding the spots where we'd have to speak
And this bottle of beast
Is taking me home
I'm cuddling close
To blankets and sheets
But you're not alone
And you're not discreet
Make sure I know who's taking you home
I'm reading your note over again
And there's not a word that I comprehend
Except when you signed it
I will love you always and forever
Well as for now I'm gonna hear the saddest songs
And sit alone and wonder
How you're making out
And as for me, I wish that I was anywhere, with anyone
Making out
I'm missing your laugh
How did it break?
And when did your eyes begin to look fake?
I hope you're as happy as you're pretending
I'm cuddling close
To blankets and sheets
And I am alone, In my defeat
I wish I knew you were safely at home
I'm missing your bed
I never sleep
Avoiding the spots where we'd have to speak
And this bottle of beast is taking me home
Well as for now I'm gonna hear the saddest songs
And sit alone and wonder
How you're making out
And as for me, I wish that I was anywhere, with anyone
Making out
Your hair, it's everywhere
Screaming infidelities
And taking its wear
Taylor posts some pictures of herself cooking, and wearing the scissors necklace. They have a matching bracelet that they share.
That night Taylor threw Dianna a circus themed birthday party, Taylor’s dressed as a tiger and Dianna has a giant snake. Likely representative of each other’s birth year animal.
Taylor posted these with the caption: The most magical night at @DiannaAgron’s circus themed birthday party!
A very similar feather headband appears in the Red room of the Lover music video. Dianna has a fan, which has shown up again in LWYMMD, Willow and Bejeweled as well as the interview with Apple Music Taylor did about writing on Evermore with WB.
Dianna’s dressed as a circus acrobat.
‘Karma is a cat purring in my lap 'cause it loves me, Flexing like a goddamn acrobat, Me and karma vibe like that’ (Karma)
The note on the left side in red reads: “I’m a little kitten and I need to nurse because I’m a runt and I’m likely to fall victim to predators”
“@ taylorswift13 great to finally meet you! I have some great circus pics from the party.” - Harry Shum
‘The mark they saw on my collarbone’ (Maroon)
Taylor reportedly sang two songs at the party.
The alert anon is back on TLC on May 12 and suggests something is going to happen that week. Now they’re posting as Ashley/Claire because people keep suggesting it’s one of them:
Dropping hints for This Love? Run?
Taylor tweets about writing songs with Ed Sheeran. Likely Everything Has Changed the song she dueted with him on the Red album, but it could be Run.
This was their first meeting according to an interview with BBC Radio One (but, importantly, not their last writing session for Red, for which they wrote two songs together). Another meeting at Taylor’s home – the first was in Phoenix, where Ed had been since 13th May – is alluded to in Rolling Stone, which must have taken place sometime before 28th May, when Taylor and Ed were photographed outside a recording studio in Santa Monica. This dates Everything Has Changed to between 15th and 28th May 2012. Taylor would not meet Conor Kennedy until 4th July.)
The second writing session took place at Swift’s home in California. “We wrote a song on a trampoline, ate some apple pie and had a jam. It was very fun,” he says. “It came in 20 minutes, really. It was a really simple song to write. We just had two guitars and strummed it out. I’ve heard from everyone in the industry how cool she is; she’s got a very good reputation, but you never really realize what kind of person she is until you sit down and chat with her. She’s just a very warm soul.” (LA home - Run?)
Dianna’s got the Hope for the Flowers Butterfly tattoo by now, because it’s visible in one of the photos from this night.
Dianna appears to brush Taylor’s wrist or arm, almost protectively as if to or warn her of the paps as they exit the restaurant.
“Evidently, it was ‘face paint Wednesday’ last night. @ashavignone drew a unicorn on @clairewinter’s face. Impressed.”
The Last Time
“The idea was based on this experience I had with someone who was kind of this unreliable guy. You never know when he’s going to leave, you never know when he’s going to come back, but he always does come back. My visual for this song is, there’s a guy on his knees sitting on the ground outside of a door. And on the other side of the door is his girlfriend, who he keeps on leaving — and he keeps coming back to her, but then he leaves again. He’s saying, ‘This is the last time I’m going to do this to you.’ And she’s saying, ‘This is the last time I’m asking you this: Don’t do this again.’ And she’s wondering whether to let him in, and he just wants her to give him another chance, but she doesn’t know if he’s going to break her heart again. It’s a really fragile emotion you’re dealing with when you want to love someone, but you don’t know if it’s smart to.” - Taylor for NPR
“It was so fast. She works really fast. She’s extraordinary. We actually did that song, wrote it and recorded it in a day. And that was the version of it on the record, which is very rare. Normally you write and record something with somebody and then down the line they’ll record it, if you’re lucky. With her, the whole thing was done in nine hours. I hope we can do it again sometime!” - Garry Lightbody (2018)
‘Love’s a fragile little flame, it can burn out’ (I Know Places)
‘All roads lead me here’ makes it about Dianna. I guess this is the other side of ‘this love came back to me’ and she did decide to give her another chance.
Anchor on her shirt.
Some preemptive no-homoing of her hosting the GLAAD awards.
That night she’s asked to sign an autograph on the photoshoot she got a lot of bad press for in 2010, and doesn’t look thrilled.
Based on the diary entry for the 10th of June.
“When I brought in this idea, I brought it into Shellback and Max Martin with, it was a piano ballad, and I thought it would be like a really sad, down-tempo song. And I remember Shellback looked at me and was like, ‘What if we do like a dubstep bass drop?’ And I was like, ‘Um, yeah! Let’s do that!’ It was one of the most shocking moments that we had in the studio making Red. I think the whole time that we were making this song we were like, 'Can we do this? Can we really do this? Is this allowed?’ And I love moments like that, where you say, 'Is this allowed?’ about a creative idea, because that means you’re pushing boundaries. That means you’re going for it. I’ve learned that since—when you feel that discomfort like, 'Am I allowed to do this?'—I felt that when I was making folklore, like, 'Am I allowed to make an alternative album?’ You just gotta listen to that feeling sometimes.”- Taylor Swift for Amazon music 2021
Taylor tweets this the next day (4th June 2012)
As part of her hosting duties Dianna auctions off a kiss for charity and following the host’s awkward ‘there are no limits’ comment she responds with this:
Luckily she had that stunt date for them to mention in this article. 😂
‘I knew you were trouble when you walked in’ (IKYWT)
‘You look like bad news, I gotta have you’ (22)
22
Liner Note: Ashley Dianna Claire Selena
“For me, being 22 has been my favorite year of my life. I like all the possibilities of how you’re still learning, but you know enough. You still know nothing, but you know that you know nothing. You’re old enough to start planning your life, but you’re young enough to know there are so many unanswered questions. That brings about a carefree feeling that is sort of based on in-decision and fear and at the same time letting loose. Being 22 has taught me so much.”
“I wrote that about my friends, like finally I’ve got this amazing group of girlfriends and we tell each other everything, we’re together all the time. And I think that was kind of the marker of me being 22, like having all these friends and there’s all these question marks in your life, but the one thing that you have is that you have each other.”
Original Lyrics:
Sometimes it hits me
We’re moving quickly
Toward something hazy
A future I can’t see
Let’s break the old rules
While we’re still 22
You look like bad news
I gotta have you
‘When my silence came, we were shaking, blind, and hazy, how the hell did we lose sight of us again?’ (Maroon)
Due to a bunch of tweets from Ashley, Claire and Dianna the L Chat deduces that the foursome is possibly having a BBQ at Taylor’s and all hanging out over that period of time:
I suspect she’s also written Treacherous, and this was Dianna hinting at it.

Kerry Townsend, one of the Kennedy grandchildren, tweets this:
“Arrived at my grandma’s house to find her chilling with Taylor swift and Dianna Agron. I hope I’m this cool when I’m 83.”
Dianna posts this to Tumblr on the 9th of July:
The tabloids speculate that Taylor is going to be dating or is already dating Patrick Schwarzenegger.
Dianna is asked what she plans on doing in the future if acting doesn’t work out. She says she guesses she could “Just go on the road with Taylor and carry her bags” and chuckles.
After this she goes to Paris and Normandy to film The Family. She’s reported as dating Christian Cooke. She is spotted with him a handful of times - in NYC once or twice in November 2012 and in LA a couple times in March 2013.
Taylor and Dianna aren’t seen together until they break up.
‘There’s something to be proud of about moving on and realizing that real love shines golden like starlight, and doesn’t fade or spontaneously combust.’
‘Don't you see the starlight, starlight? Don't you dream impossible things?’ (Starlight)
That lyric is based off a line from the Alice in Wonderland:
Taylor of course goes on to say that maybe she’ll write about it if she ever finds it, because she’s closeted and still sticking to that narrative, but golden love is what she’s found with Dianna.
Taylor ends it with a wink, because she and Dianna were already back together. There are tons of references to Dianna as the roman goddess Diana scattered through the music video.
Dianna can’t help poking fun at her:
“The way I look at love is you have to follow it,” she says, “and fall hard, if you fall hard. You have to forget about what everyone else thinks. It has to be an us-against-the-world mentality. You have to make it work by prioritizing it, and by falling in love really fast, without thinking too hard. If I think too hard about a relationship I’ll talk myself out of it.”...There are no mere hookups in Swift-land. “No,” she says, nose wrinkling. “Where’s the romance? Where’s the magic in that? I’m just not that girl.” And by the way, hackers shouldn’t bother with her cellphone: “There’s interesting things on there, like text messages,” she says. “But you wouldn’t find any naked pictures….Swift loves the idea of long relationships, though she’s never really had one. “It usually lasts four and a half months, and then it all just disintegrates. Then I spend, like, a year and a half mourning the loss of it.”
Approximately 4 & ½ months since the Hunger Games date with Dianna.
There is a rumor that the purchasing of a house in Rhode Island by Taylor was a favor she did for the Kennedys. Supposedly the person that Taylor bought the house from had some issue with the Kennedys so Taylor bought it on their behalf. Taylor sold the house to a sort of shell company. The trade off may have been a real estate deal for the Kennedys and a beard for Taylor.
Naya goes to visit Dianna for a girl’s trip.
Taylor is in Paris from the 1st-4th October, where she films the music video to Begin Again. She and Dianna have dinner together on the evening of the 3rd.
Taylor talks about stockpiling painful songs that she can grab from later.
“I have a lot of rules placed on my life, and I just choose not to apply rules to love”
Says Sweet Disposition is her favorite romantic love song, Love Actually is her favorite romantic chick flick and the movie that made her cry.
Taylor talks about the breakup movie “About Last Night” with Demi Moore and Rob Lowe about a couple that breaks up and spends a lot of time apart and gets back together “because they’re really good together” Says the hardest thing about being Taylor Swift is not being able to learn lessons the hard way and make mistakes and how it’s scary and is judged by the court of public opinion.
“If there were someone who was a good person, I’m not going to write something bad about them. But if they handle a situation in a way that really messed up my life for a while, that’s what I’m going to write about. For me, I’ve never changed the reason I write a song. Songs for me are like a message in a bottle. You send them out to the world and maybe the person who you feel that way about will hear about it someday. …Having written a song called “Fifteen,” about how much I learned at age 15, and how that was a really heavy year for me. I learned a lot of lessons the hard way and it was a vulnerable age. And 22 is a vulnerable age, but you’re a little more brave. You’re a little more ready to take risks and live with the consequences. To me, the song “22” has a more carefree background to it. Because the age of 22 is much more carefree for me than 15 was. …I try to have a normal life and look at things in a normal way, under very abnormal circumstances. That’s always going to be my main goal, that’s always what I’m going to strive for, to be a normal human being. It’s interesting because you’re put in really abnormal situations. You have an abnormal-size microscope covering your life and everything you do. You look at the idea of being 22, that’s when you’re supposed to be out there living and being selfish and making mistakes and messing up. If I mess up once, it’s a headline everywhere.”
…What qualities do you look for in a guy?
“I don’t really look for anything. I don’t have a type. I don’t have a specific kind of human being. It’s just kind of an X-factor of sorts. Everybody I’ve ever dated has been a case-by-case situation. None of them have had any real similarities as far as how we met or what kind of relationship it was. I just try to operate based on spontaneity.”
…Are you currently in a relationship?
“Don’t go there. C’mon.”
I was just wondering.
“I know you have to ask. But don’t ask.”
In August 2019 Morning Mash Up Taylor says “there was a song called ‘This Love’ that I had written closer to the Red album but it ended up being on 1989. There was also a song called ‘Better Man’ that I wrote back when I was writing Red.” (Nathan Chapman *NASHVILLE*)
Dianna posts Angels by The XX:
Lyrics:
Light reflects from your shadow
It is more than I thought could exist
You move through the room
Like breathing was easy
If someone believed me
They would be
As in love with you as I am
They would be
As in love with you as I am
They would be
As in love with you as I am
They would be
In love, love, love
And everyday
I am learning about you
The things that no one else sees
And the end comes too soon
Like dreaming of angels
And leaving without them
And leaving without them
Being
As in love with you as I am
Being
As in love with you as I am
Being
As in love with you as I am
Being
As in love, love, love
Love, love, love
Love, love, love
And with words unspoken
A silent devotion
I know you know what I mean
And the end is unknown
But I think I'm ready
As long as you're with me
Being
As in love with you as I am
Being
As in love with you as I am
Being
As in love with you as I am
Being
As in love, love, love
She says she wrote a new song “like two days ago”
Katie Couric The First Half interview: When asked if her ex got the message of WANEGBT Taylor is hesitant, then says “I haven’t heard from him since, I think I was insistent enough this time” trying not to smile, “I don't know how to have a normal relationship. I don’t really know that much about love, it turns out. Some of my exes like to write really long emails. A recurring nightmare is getting hauled off to jail for something I didn’t do. Subconscious fear of losing it all. Piles of laundry recurring nightmare. Subconscious fear of losing control. I feel like there’ll be a time when I step back from it.”
“There were a few track list choices I knew I was going to make way in advance,” she said. “I knew I wanted to bookend the album with ‘State of Grace’ and ‘Begin Again’ because they’re inspired by the same person who inspired a few songs on the record. I wanted to start and end the album with the first and last song I ever wrote about that relationship.”
“Then in between those songs, I wanted to paint a picture of the ups and downs I’ve experienced in life and love, not necessarily in the order it happened chronologically,” Swift continued. “I like to spread the emotions out in a way that never makes you feel like there’s a sad lull, then a burst of four songs in a row about joy. At the end of the day, I make a track list based on what my gut feeling tells me.” ‘Begin Again’ is my song version of a cliffhanger ending. Throughout the whole album, there have been songs about the trials and tribulations of love and loss, and there at the end of the record it starts all over. As soon as I wrote that song, I knew exactly where I wanted to put it.” - LA Times
“That's the thing with love: It's going to be wrong until it's right. So you experience these different shades of wrong and you miss the good things about those people, and you regret not seeing the red flags for the bad things about those people, but it's all a learning process. And being 22, you're kind of in a crash course with love and life and lessons and learning the hard way, and thankfully, I've been able to write about those emotions as they've affected me….The first thing that I think about when I'm writing my lyrics is directly communicating with the person the song is about. I think what I've learned recently is that it's not ... heartbreak that inspires my songs. It's not love that inspires my songs. It's individual people that come into my life. I've had relationships with people that were really substantial and meant a lot to me, but I couldn't write a song about that person for some reason. Then again, you'll meet someone that comes into your life for two weeks and you write an entire record about them….There's one song on the new album called "The Last Time," which you sing with Gary Lightbody of the band Snow Patrol, that's particularly heartbreaking. Where does that come from? You have this bright, upbeat personality and this charisma that's been written about so much, and yet there's a lot of pain in what you write about. The idea was based on this experience I had with someone who was kind of this unreliable guy. You never know when he's going to leave, you never know when he's going to come back, but he always does come back. My visual for this song is, there's a guy on his knees sitting on the ground outside of a door. And on the other side of the door is his girlfriend, who he keeps on leaving — and he keeps coming back to her, but then he leaves again. He's saying, "This is the last time I'm going to do this to you." And she's saying, "This is the last time I'm asking you this: Don't do this again." And she's wondering whether to let him in, and he just wants her to give him another chance, but she doesn't know if he's going to break her heart again. It's a really fragile emotion you're dealing with when you want to love someone, but you don't know if it's smart to.” - NPR Interview
I think the song she ‘wrote two days ago’ is I Know Places because she stunts for that December 3rd with Harry.
Liner Note: And everyone was watching
“I had this idea of like, you know, when you’re in love -- along the lines of ‘Out of the Woods’ -- it’s very precious, it’s fragile. As soon as the world gets ahold of it, whether it’s your friends or people around town hear about it … it’s kind of like the first thing people want to do when they hear that people are in love is just kind of try to ruin it, if they’re not the greatest human beings,” she says.
“I kind of was in a place where I was like, ‘No one is gonna sign up for this. There are just too many cameras pointed at me. There are too many ridiculous elaborations on my life. It’s just not ever gonna work,’” Swift admits. “But I decided to write a love song, just kind of like, ‘What would I say if I met someone really awesome and they were like, hey, I’m worried about all this attention you get?’ So I wrote this song called ‘I Know Places’ about, like, ‘Hey, I know places we can hide. We could outrun them.’”
“I’m so happy that it sounds like the urgency that it sings about,” she says.” - Billboard Interview
Stills from the lyric videos resemble paintings by painter René Magritte.
“At least it hides the face partly well, so you have the apparent face, the apple, hiding the visible but hidden, the face of the person. It's something that happens constantly. Everything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we see. There is an interest in that which is hidden and which the visible does not show us. This interest can take the form of a quite intense feeling, a sort of conflict, one might say, between the visible that is hidden and the visible that is present.”- Son of Man
“One night, I woke up in a room in which a cage with a bird sleeping in it had been placed. A magnificent error caused me to see an egg in the cage, instead of the vanished bird. I then grasped a new and astonishing poetic secret, for the shock which I experienced had been provoked precisely by the affinity of two objects—the cage and the egg—to each other, whereas previously this shock had been caused by my bringing together two objects that were unrelated.” - Elective Affinities
“The pleasure principle states that people seek pleasure and avoid pain. The counterpart is the reality principle, which defers gratification when necessary. Psychologists and neuroscientists believe the pleasure principle is responsible for the pleasurable feeling a person receives after acquiring knowledge or grasping a concept.
Magritte is playing with that emotion by enigmatically turning the subject’s most defining feature - his face - into a brightly glowing fireball. The subject’s pose is also mystifying. Who sits like that? What is his hand doing? The rock is obviously symbolic, but of what? Magritte was usually coy when asked about the meaning of his works. He typically said they are meaningless because they are paintings, not concepts able to be known. By which he was implying that the intended symbolism is less significant than the feeling someone has when looking at the painting. In this case, he wants to invoke that feeling of the frustration when the pleasurable feelings of acquiring knowledge are denied.”- Pleasure Principle

“I’m a singer and I don’t think people want to hear my political views.”
She also wins Best Female Country Artist.
‘I just kind of fall in love with who I fall in love with’
Taylor says she thinks she wrote WANEGBT so that she couldn’t get back together with that person, like a self sabotage, but you never know with love, it will always come back and surprise you.
Dianna accompanies Taylor to the Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights 2012 Ripple of Hope gala. Dianna tweets, and gives an interesting interview.
“I think the color red is one thats very bold and dangerous and adventurous and daring, and in the context of my music the color red signifies deep emotion, crazy emotion, passion, affection, being in love with someone, jealousy, anger, all those crazy feelings. Those feelings are all very, like 100 miles per hour, zero to a hundred, I think that my life would definitely be the color red right now if it had to be a color because it's just bold. My life feels very bold right now. I have tried all kinds of new things in the last year. I’ve put out a record that I’m really proud of because it took risks musically. I’m just embracing the uncertainty of everything and embracing the fact that everything is constantly changing and that’s not as scary as it is exciting.”
Dianna pushes Harry away when he tries to touch Taylor.

I’ve never seen two people look more miserable in my life. Seems like a key moment, because NYE shows up in the Lover MV as a cause of the pair’s breakup and Taylor writes NYD.
‘I want her midnights, but I’ll be cleaning up bottles with you on new years day’ (New Years Day)
2012 Conclusion:. The Connor stunt while Dianna was away filming was hard, the Harry stunting was harder. They may have gotten engaged, they likely ran away to The Lakes together.
Harry is back in the UK, but Taylor shows up with a hickey.
Someone later asks Taylor what song this tweet was about and she says AYHTDWS.
Liner Note: They paid the price
“I had a dream that my ex showed up at my door, knocked on the door, and I opened it up and I was about ready to launch into, like, the perfect thing to say, and instead, all that would come out of my mouth was that high-pitched chorus of people singing “Stay!” - Interview with Ryan Adams
Taylor posts this picture, and says later it’s from recording How You Get the Girl.
Liner Note: Then one day he came back
“The song ‘How You Get the Girl’ is a song that I wrote about how you get the girl back if you ruined the relationship somehow and she won’t talk to you anymore. Like, if you broke up with her and left her on her own for six months and then you realize you miss her. All the steps you have to do to edge your way back into her life, because she’s probably pretty mad at you. So it’s kind of a tutorial. If you follow the directions in the song, chances are things will work out. Or you may get a restraining order.” - Radio.com Interview
“Once a relationship is done it’s done. The back and forth is exhausting. You have to date someone who’s dependable but doesn’t change their mind every 5 seconds”
‘Are we out of the woods yet?’ (Out of the Woods)
Red tour rehearsals are happening by now
‘They are the hunters, we are the foxes’ (I Know Places)
‘I’m the one who burned us down’ (Afterglow)
Taylor later uses a dandelion in her Taymoji’s for I Wish You Would.
Lyrics
I feel better when I, I feel better when I
I'm so better when I have you near me
I feel better when I, I feel better when I
I'm so better when I have you near me
You
Me
You
I do, I do, I do
“I love you as certain dark things are loved, secretly, between the shadow and the soul.”
Like the poem by Neruda Taylor referenced in the Red booklet.
“Love is so short, forgetting is so long.”
Taylor posts a picture of her grammy for ‘Safe and Sound’ with the caption “Look what happened! :)”
Taylor performs a circus themed version of We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.
With a rabbit, and gemini twins. She also uses a mocking British accent for the ‘calls me up again’ part of the song. Even though she dated Harry for less than three months, and the songs about an on and off relationship
Then Taylor posts about an “inside source” telling her they’d be doing her song on glee.
The episode is “I Do”, Will Schuster and Emma Pillsbury’s wedding with a bunch of the graduated characters coming back to attend. A tipsy Quinn and Santana played by Dianna and Naya hook up after the ceremony.
Following the episode, Taylor deletes the tweet and replaces it with this one.
In late April of 2023, Kevin & Jenna’s Glee podcast finally cleared up what happened. Chord was going to sing I Knew You Were Trouble, and had texted Taylor but it was switched up at the last minute.
Including sad charlie brown, a dandelion bursting from someone’s chest and a red flower growing from frozen ground.
A red rose grew up out of ice frozen ground, with no one around to tweet it’ (The Lakes)
The dandelion looks like this taymoji from I Wish You Would.
Dianna’s love of boating, pirates, the ocean and general nautical themes likely inspires a lot of the lyrics and taymoji’s having an ocean/boat theme
Taylor posts her first bio to twitter, even though she’s been using twitter for 4 years.
In an interview with Marie Claire (8 August), Taylor lists the same phrase as her quote to live by.
She also posts these:
I think this signaled the final end to the argument, and the Swiftgron 1.0 breakup.
‘I won’t ask you to wait if you don’t ask me to stay’ (Tis the Damn Season)
‘He wanted it comfortable, I wanted that pain, he wanted a bride, I was making my own name’ (Midnight Rain)
‘I never was ready, so I watch you go, sometimes you just don't know the answer 'til someone's on their knees and asks you’ (Champagne Problems)
All with melancholy energy.
"If you want some big revelation, since 2010 I have dated exactly two people. The fact that there are slideshows of a dozen guys that I either hugged on a red carpet or met for lunch or wrote a song with. . . it's just kind of ridiculous….For a female to write about her feelings, and then be portrayed as some clingy, insane, desperate girlfriend in need of making you marry her and have kids with her, I think that's taking something that potentially should be celebrated — a woman writing about her feelings in a confessional way — that's taking it and turning it and twisting it into something that is frankly a little sexist….There's a special place in hell for women who don't help other women.” ...She won’t go into personal details about any of her relationships—it’s one of her rules—but she does authorize someone who knows her well to discuss them with me. The fact that this information—once the purview of Seventeen and Tiger Beat—now counts as actual “news” is perplexing, but here we go”
“Swift’s friend said that the Styles situation is completely misrepresented in the media. This young woman claimed that Styles “chased” Swift for a year. “He wore her down.” And then, last spring, she said, there was a weekend “where they got really close, and he was all, like, ‘You’re amazing—I want to be with you. I want to do this.’ ' Soon after that, when Styles was on tour in Australia with One Direction, he allegedly texted Swift to alert her to a picture of himself on the Internet “kissing a friend good-bye,” but said, “It’s no big deal.” When Swift searched online for the picture, however, she found that they were “making out like with their hands all up in each other’s hair. Swift ended the relationship, continued her friend, after which Styles allegedly pursued her for the better part of a year, professing his devotion and promising never to stray again. “So then they got back together, but the whole time she says she feels like he’s looking at every girl and thinking about hooking up with every girl.” And then, when they were in London sometime in the last few months, the boy-band balladeer allegedly “disappears one night and after that it was like he just didn’t want to keep going.” Now, said the friend, he is allegedly texting Swift “again nonstop, like ‘Where are you? Call me. Are you back?’...”
“Part of me just feels like it’s gonna be wrong until it’s right,” she said, talking in song lyrics again; this one hadn’t been written yet. “I’m perfectly happy for all my past relationships to be wrong until I find the one that’s right, because I’m very happy not having found my great love yet.”
“I’m not actively looking, because you don’t find anything when you’re looking for it, but I think what I would mostly be looking for in a guy … is someone who sees me in my actual dimensions: 23 years old, five-foot-ten, people close to her call her ‘Tay,’ was really insecure in middle school. Like, a guy who wants to know the stories of who I was before this, and the things that aren’t on my Wikipedia page and the things that didn’t happen on an awards show—a guy who just wants to know the girl.”If I could find someone who just looked at me like I’m a girl,” she said, “like a girl they want to be their girlfriend, with all my accomplishments and my criticisms, without this big cartoon character that most people see me as because they don’t know me … I just want a guy to be dating me as a girl.” - Vanity Fair
Taylor mixes in a Mumford & Sons song with Stay Stay Stay.
One of Taylor’s favorite shows, starring Lena Dunham who she’s still friends with.
“Someone on Twitter is going through a situation. Like a break up situation. This is a song I wrote that’s more of a story of what happened.”
“I truly believe that when dealing with anybody you meet, you should start by trusting them. Any new friend you meet. Any new person you meet. I think you should truly believe the best in them. And the first time that they tell you they’re sorry I think you should believe them. But then if they keep doing the same exact thing that they say they’re sorry for, that means one thing guys. That they’re not. Sorry.”
And Taylor’s on a Wonderland magazine cover
James’ skateboard. lol
“They do it again and then they say they’re sorry again and then they do it again and they hurt you again and they say they’re sorry but they’re not sorry are they?”
During her performance of ATW she wipes away a tear. Keep in mind, this is 2 days after the article comes out.
“Everybody’s got like one, maybe two, I don't know how many you have, but at least one person in your life that doesn’t belong in your life anymore because maybe they hurt you or maybe it’s just over but you kind of want to call them sometimes. And you think better of it. But, you almost do it.”
On that same day Dianna reblogs several things on her private Tumblr. These two seem significant:
Both had the lost love hashtag.
The rumors claimed they were forced to break up by their PR teams(mainly Taylor's label) due to being outed.
29 April 2013 - Dianna tweets at Taylor and Ashley
Taylor doesn’t respond.
“King of my heart, body and soul…Rose Garden filled with thorns…up on the roof with a schoolgirl crush” (KOMH)
There are no interviews about Wonderland, because it’s impossible to hetsplain this gloriously fruity song. Even the Genius Lyrics comment section, which usually rejects queer interpretations, almost unanimously agrees it’s about Dianna.
“This is a song about how, when you fall in love everybody starts to give you their opinion. I imagine it could be really hard to make a relationship last, I wouldn’t know. But, given that everyone is giving you their own opinion about it, I think that the only opinion you should really listen to is yours and if you love that person, that should be all that matters.” - Taylor Swift
‘When you are young they assume you know nothing’ (Cardigan)
Ed Sheeran talks about Taylor in an interview.
“Ed Sheeran says rumors that Taylor Swift is a serial dater are completely untrue, and says over the past two years she has only dated two different people.
The 'Small Bump' singer has been touring with the '22' star for the past several months and says there is a "misconception" about the US singer's romantic life, and has defended her from media reports that focus on her dating history.
"The rumour that she dates a lot of people is a misconception," Ed declared to US publication OK!. "In the time that I've known her, which has been almost two years now, she has dated two people. Fact.
"In her entire life I think she's dated around five or six people," the 'Lego House' star explained, before going on to defend Taylor from the media's perception. "I don't like when people take shots at [Taylor] because I do know her personally and I think people get the wrong end of the stick.
"She's so successful and she's so nice and sweet to everyone that she meets, there is nothing bad to say but she was being pictured with a lot of dudes!"
Taylor wins 8 awards and says this during her acceptance speech:
I think Bad Blood would have to have been written by around now.
Bad Blood
“Taylor Swift revealed her song Bad Blood is about a former boyfriend. It was widely believed that the 25-year-old singer aimed the track at American singer/songwriter Katy Perry.”
"You're in a Rolling Stone interview, and the writer says, "Who is that song about? That sounds like a really intense moment from your life." And you sit there, and you know you're on good terms with your ex-boyfriend, and you don't want him—or his family—to think you're firing shots at him. So you say, "That was about losing a friend." And that's basically all you say," she said. "But then people cryptically tweet about what you meant. I never said anything that would point a finger in the specific direction of one specific person, and I can sleep at night knowing that. I knew the song would be assigned to a person, and the easiest mark was someone who I didn't want to be labeled with this song. It was not a song about heartbreak. It was about the loss of friendship." - Taylor for GQ
Bad Blood seems to be referenced in several of her apology songs later.
‘I wish we could go back and remember what we were fighting for, I wish you knew that I miss you too much to be mad anymore’ (I Wish You Would)
‘Wondering if I dodged a bullet or just lost the love of my life’ (I Don’t Wanna Live Forever)
‘I’m the one who burned us down’ (Afterglow)
‘Fighting with a true love is like boxing with no gloves’ (Daylight)
‘Time curious time, cutting me open then healing me fine’ (Invisible String)
‘Maybe it’s the past that’s talking, screaming from the crypt, telling me to punish you for things you never did’ (The Great War)
I Wish You Would
“We were hanging out at her house in Rhode Island,” says Antonoff, “and we were talking about John Hughes movies, and a lot of the music that inspired [them] and just this general culture of sound in that time period that was really larger-than-life in an anthemic, positive way. These songs could be at the end of films that were really, really beautiful and said a lot.” - Jack Antonoff
“It was inspired by John Hughes’ movies (The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Pretty In Pink) and captures the moment when the one person you want to show up for you more than anything in the world, shows up at the perfect time – at 2am”
“'I Wish You Would’ is a song that I wrote with Jack Antonoff and it was the first song we ever worked on together. I think, for this song, we wanted to create a sort of John Hughes movie visual with pining and, you know, one person’s over here and misses the other person but is too prideful and won’t say it. Meanwhile this other person is here and missing the same person; they’re missing each other but not saying it. And I had this happen in my life and so I wanted to kind of narrate it in a very cinematic way where it’s like you’re seeing two scenes play out and then in the bridge you’re seeing the final scene, where it resolves itself. So it says, 'It’s a crooked love in a straight line down, makes you wanna run and hide but it makes you turn right back around.’ It kind of is like that dramatic love that’s never really quite where it needs to be and that tension that that creates.”
“Taylor said that she wrote [‘I Wish You Would’] a couple of months after her and her ex broke up, and they decided to become friends again and she said this was the first time she had become friends with an ex, to the point where they were comfortable enough to talk about why the relationship didn’t work out. She said he told her about how, after they broke up, he bought a house literally one road adjacent to hers. Every day he would drive home, and accidentally turn into her street, and he told her how he just wanted to stop at her house and see her, but he never did. She said this song is about while he was in the car making the decision to get out the car and see her, she was sitting in her bedroom, wishing he would make the move and go back to her and just pitch up at her house. She compared it to a classic John Hughes movie where both parties want the same thing but neither has the guts to say anything. Honestly, she spoke so fondly of that relationship.”
“The first song the pair pumped out together was the result of an early track Antonoff sent to Swift, back when they were texting, emailing and swooning over Yazoo. It eventually became “I Wish You Would,” a perfectly bubbly beat about a guy driving past his ex’s house thinking she hates him, when really she is still in love with him. It’s a classic tale of wishing things were different.”- Jack Antonoff
“Another song, “I Wish You Would,” marks another growth area: Swift says she’s now friends with an ex. “That’s a new concept for me actually, writing songs about things that have happened in romantic relationships and being able to run them past the person that they’re about,” she said. - Taylor Swift
“This is another way I’ve written songs recently. This is a song I did with Jack Antonoff, and Jack is one of my friends and so were hanging out and he pulled out his phone and goes ‘I made this amazing track the other day. It’s so cool, I love these guitar sounds.’ And he played it for me and immediately I could hear this finished song in my head, and I just said ‘Please, please let me have that. Let me play with is, send it to me.’ And so he sent it to me and I was on tour and this was me playing the track on my laptop recording me singing the vocal into my phone and it ended up being a song called “I Wish You Would”, because Jack wrote back and said ‘I love that’. So this is another way of writing, it’s writing to track.” - Voice Memo
“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.” - F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
“This is a song that I haven’t played on this tour so far. It came up when one of my friends tweeted the lyrics to it today and it reminded me that I haven’t played this song in about two years. It has to do with the fact that, you know, people talk about ghosts all the time.”
“You just kind of imagine it being this supernatural thing, but there’s another kind of ghost and it’s just a person who is out there walking in the world or just doesn’t love you anymore and that’s a whole different kind of being haunted.” - Taylor Swift
“When I was reading 'Rebecca' by Daphne du Maurier, I was thinking wow, her husband just tolerates her. She's doing all these things and she's trying so hard and she's trying to impress him and he's just tolerating her the whole time...there was a part of me that was relating to that because at some point in my life I felt that way so I ended up writing this song Tolerate It which is all about trying to love someone who is ambivalent" - Taylor
“Fold a scarf, Moroccan red and tie your hair behind your head”
Moroccan red feels pointed.
Taylor says she read The Fault in Our Stars book summer 2013
She says she’s “devouring novels, from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Tender Is the Night to Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl and Jess Walter’s Beautiful Ruins.
“They’re great stories, and they kind of take you away,” she says. And I have a copy of [F. Scott Fitzgerald’s] Tender Is the Night that I’m about to start reading, because I read it a long time ago and I want to reread it. I’ve been reading a lot of different things, but I really like [Gillian Flynn’s] Gone Girl and [Jess Walters’] Beautiful Ruins. They’re great stories. They kind of take you away.”
And she’s already putting together a wish list of collaborators for her fifth album. “I’m jumping in headfirst.”
“I am getting to a point where the only love worth being in is the love worth singing about. And kind of mad love. I think that for me, when you experience something that’s worth writing a song about, chances are it’s the same kind of intense feeling that someone else has felt, and it has led them to be sitting on a bedroom floor crying, or walking through a crowded room feeling alone or feeling misunderstood by the person who’s supposed to know them better than anybody else. Those are things that make you feel really alone, and if someone’s singing a song about that feeling, then you feel bonded to that person, and I guess that’s the only way I can find an explanation why 55,000 people would want to come see me sing. …I picture the Speak Now tour existing in a Midsummer Night’s Dream/Romeo and Juliet-inspired fantasyland, and I picture this taking place in New York City. And so you’ve got high intensity excitement and you’ve got the darkness of all of it and you’ve got all the fleeting moments of reality, and it’s a little bit less of a fairy tale.”
Picture from Dianna’s secret tumblr (Feb 2013):
Taylor’s feeling the strain of her celebrity, and muses on ideas that show up in a number of the songs on 1989.
‘I'm not cut out for all these cynical clones, these hunters with cell phones…A red rose grew up out of ice frozen ground with no one around to tweet it’ (The Lakes)
‘Something happens when everybody finds out…They are the hunters, we are the foxes, and we run’ (I Know Places)
Lots of anxiety and Out of the Woods themes too.
‘I also want to thank the person who inspired this song, who knows exactly who he is, cause now I got one of these.’
The Bowery Hotel is Dianna’s usual base of operations.
It also has a tree line and a gold clock.
Dianna does not appear to be having fun at the FUN concert.
“I kind of feel like playing a song I’ve never ever played live before. This is um a song that I wrote about how you know just because something’s over doesn’t mean it wasn’t incredibly beautiful. Cause another lesson I’ve learned is not all stories have a happy ending and you have to learn how to deal with that. So this is a song about a story that didn’t end so happily but was still supposed to happen. This is called “Sad, Beautiful, Tragic.” - Taylor Swift
Similar descriptors to the OOTW interviews, maybe written around this time?
Out of the Woods
“Although Antonoff and Swift shared studio time for some of their other 1989 songs while working throughout 2014, “Out of the Woods” was completed as a long-distance collaboration.”
“It just kind of conjured up all these feelings of anxiety I had in a relationship where everybody was watching, everybody was commenting on it,” she says of “Out of the Woods.” “You’re constantly just feeling like, ‘Are we out of the woods yet? What’s the next thing gonna be? What’s the next hurdle we’re gonna have to jump over? Are we gonna make it to next week?’ It was interesting to write about a relationship where you’re just honestly like, ‘This is probably not gonna last, but how long is it gonna last?’ Those fragile relationships … It doesn’t mean they’re not supposed to happen. The whole time we were having happy memories or crazy memories or ridiculously anxious times, in my head it was just like, ‘Are we OK yet? Are we there yet? Are we out of this yet?’” - Billboard Interview
“The number one feeling I felt in the whole relationship was anxiety. Because it felt very fragile, it felt very tentative, And it always felt like, 'OK, what's the next road block? What's the next thing that's gonna deter this? How long do we have before this turns into just an awful mess and we break up? Is it a month? Is it three days?'" - Bustle Interview
Dancing with Our Hands Tied has been compared to Dancing On My Own, it’s likely that Taylor wrote DWOHT around now following the FUN concert with Dianna.
Dancing With Our Hands Tied - Swiftgron Analysis
“I think that you can love people without it being the great love. Ed [Sheeran] said something that really resonated with me. He says there are different kinds of love: There's physical attraction, mental attraction, and emotional attraction; there's also comfort and obsession. You need to have all of those things in one person. You have to mentally respect them, be physically attracted, and have a comfort level. You're obsessed with them, yet you also know they're going to stay. I've never had that in one person. My friends tease me about the fact that if someone seems bad or shady or like they have a secret, I find them incredibly interesting. That's just a phase I've been in lately. I don't think this should be how I proceed in life. It's important to be self-aware about these things because you don't want to end up with that guy….Early on, my ideas about love came from a daydreamy prince-and-princess place. But when I actually experienced it, I realized it wasn't those things. It can be — but not always.”
She is interviewed for the February 2014 issue of InStyle UK, and sits for the photograph which (probably) provided the immediate inspiration for Style.
I’m not gonna go super in depth on Kaylor because it's been done in other places, and this is primarily a Swiftgron timeline, but I’m keeping it in here to show the overlap. It’s also key to note that this was the SQUAD era. Taylor was being papped with Cara and Lorde and a bunch of the other girls as well.
Many point to this inspiring Taylor writing You Are In Love. This post explores the many reasons why I think that song is actually about Dianna.
I’ve explored the possibility that this song was written by Dianna here.
Which reminds me of this:
Beauty in the Breakdown is a song by The Scene Aesthetic.
Lyrics:
Come on, take a step towards me
So you can figure me out
I've been hoping and praying for a single way
To show you what I'm all about
And I know, and I know this is the only way of pleasing the crowds
But when this is over and done with and we walk away
There should be no doubts
So let's get a little closer now
Let's get a little closer now
You say, you say that we're all tied up
And wrapped around in useless, states of mind
But at the same time we're still young
We have the time to realize that we were wrong
Come on love run with me
Get the hell out of this town
So we can get a better feel for each other
I'll take you, back to, when you
Remembered how you used to
Just live your life a little for me
Take the time to let it go
Step away and watch me grow
So let's get a little closer now
Let's get a little closer now
You say, you say that we're all tied up
And wrapped around in useless, states of mind
But at the same time we're still young
We have the time to realize that we were wrong
You can stay if you want to
And I write to you and tell you how you've always been so special to me
You can stay if you want to, and I'll try
You can stay if you want to
And I write to you and tell you how you've always been so special to me
You can stay if you want to, and I'll try
To keep you close to me (x3)
You say, you say that we're all tied up
And wrapped around in useless, states of mind
But at the same time we're still young
We have the time to realize that we were wrong
‘When you are young they assume you know nothing’ (Cardigan)
‘He said “lets get out of this town, drive out of the city, away from the crowds” (Wildest Dreams)
It seems reflective of the feelings of being bound in Out of The Woods as well.
It’s likely she’s looking at Taylor in this photo who was seated across from her.
Lyrics:
I'm feeling further, feeling further from you every day
You're in the stars, in the stars, yeah
You're worlds away
I'm moving on, moving on, then I hear you say
Hold on, hold on
We're losing light, losing light, yeah
We're fading fast
We had a fire, need a spark, or we'll never last
Just look at me, look at me, I've been burning for you
So long, so long
I should walk away
(Oh-oh oh-oh)
I look at you and
(Oh-oh oh-oh)
I get the feeling
(Oh-oh oh-oh)
I think that I should hold on, hold on (x2)
I'm losing love, losing you, losing everything
Losing faith in the world where I wanna be
So I don't care if the one thing that's killing me
Is so wrong, so wrong
I should walk away
(Oh-oh oh-oh)
I look at you and
(Oh-oh oh-oh)
I get the feeling
(Oh-oh oh-oh)
I think that I should hold on, hold on (x2)
Oh, oh, oh
And I can't stop this feeling
And I can't stop this feeling
(Oh-oh oh-oh)
I look at you and
(Oh-oh oh-oh)
I get the feeling
(Oh-oh oh-oh)
I think that I should hold on, hold on (x2)
Karlie persuades her to move to NYC instead of chasing Dianna to London as she later brags in the “Best Best Friends” video.
She says she’s working on the next album (1989), and Scott Bruchetta says they have seven songs for it already.
‘Pale blue sky reflected in your eyes’ (Run)
Lyrics:
Sometimes I feel so happy
Sometimes I feel so sad
Sometimes I feel so happy
But mostly you just make me mad
Baby, you just
Make me mad
Linger on
Your pale blue eyes
Linger on
Your pale blue eyes
Thought of you as my mountain top
Thought of you as my peak
Thought of you as everything
I've had but couldn't keep
I've had but couldn't keep
Linger on
Your pale blue eyes
Linger on
Your pale blue eyes
If I could make the world as pure
And strange as what I see
I'd put you in the mirror
I put in front of me
I put in front of me
Linger on
Your pale blue eyes
Linger on
Your pale blue eyes
Skip a life completely
Stuff it in a cup
She said, "Money is like us in time
It lies, but can't stand up
Down for you is up"
Linger on
Your pale blue eyes
Linger on
Your pale blue eyes
It was good what we did yesterday
And I'd do it once again
The fact that you are married
Only proves, you're my best friend
But it's truly, truly a sin
Linger on
Your pale blue eyes
Linger on
Your pale blue eyes
Since Dianna plays this song again after Folklore comes out and Taylor hetwashes Betty, I’d say it's a song she listens to when she’s frustrated with Taylor.
’You make me so happy, it turns back to sad, there’s nothing I hate more than what I can’t have… you are so gorgeous it makes me so mad’ (Gorgeous)
It’s also got Style vibes with the mirror lines, ‘Down is up’ as a concept pops up frequently in Taylor’s music videos and promotion. Like the Orange Room in the Lover house and the upside down phone in Midnight Mayhem with Me.
Dianna responds by posting this to her tumblr.
“I’m lucky enough to get to get to do a lot of meet and greets and get to meet you guys. And when I do a lot of the time I meet a lot of people who write songs or who wanna write songs and the number one question I get asked a lot is; “how do you know what to write a song about? Where do you start?”
And for me, I guess the answer is--I guess the easiest answer, the most simple answer is think about how many things do you want to say to someone who you have been too scared to say it to them because you’re scared of their reaction to what you would tell them? Over the course of the day we get hundreds, if not thousands things we wish we could say if we were brave enough or if we didn’t have to see the reaction, or hear the reaction or response to saying what we actually feel--about someone, about a situation.
Writing a song is kinda like saying what I really wanted to say to the person--whatever you wanted to say the most and being able to push pause on the moment and not having to see that person’s response. It’s like putting a message in a bottle, whatever you wanted to say, whether it’s saying “I really love you” or “I am still really heartbroken” or “what you said really hurt me”, or “you make me happier than anyone in the world and I’ve told you before” or “you’re my best friend and I never want to lose you”.
All those things. It’s like saying any of that, putting it in a bottle, throwing it into the ocean, maybe they’ll see it, maybe they won’t. Maybe it’s a really cowardly way to live your life--but maybe it’s also the bravest way you can live your life. I haven’t really decided which one. This is a song, that was all the things I wanted to say to somebody but instead I just wrote this song because everything about this person i just couldn’t forget, you know, I just remembered it all too...well.” - Taylor Swift

Wildest Dreams (Copyright 2013)
Liner Note: He only saw her in his dreams
“Wildest Dreams is a song about a relationship that was doomed, and the music video concept was that they were having a love affair on location away from their normal lives.” - Nova’s Red Room
“It was a song about a place I was in in my life where I was fatalist, I had a fatalist idea of love and I was clearly in a very bad mood and I was like *sarcastic Taylor voice* Love just ends. It was not a question of if we break up but when we will break up. It was one of those days but it got a good song out of it” - Nova’s Red Room
“I think the way I used to approach relationships was very idealistic. I used to go into them thinking, ‘Maybe this is the one – we’ll get married and have a family, this could be forever’. Whereas now I go in thinking, ‘How long do we have on the clock – before something comes along and puts a wrench in it, or your publicist calls and says this isn’t a good idea?’” - Rolling Stone
Lyric Changes:
2013 Conclusion: At some point early in 2013, Swiftgron were pushed underground beginning the ‘months and months of back and forth’ (Clean) that ultimately led to their breakup. The musical and vague blogging clues suggest a broken proposal and Taylor wanting to break into pop enough to follow the advice of her publicist when she told her the relationship was ‘not a good idea’, she was too young and to think about her musical ‘legacy’ and the chance to live forever through her art. Things she alludes to in later songs:
I also suspect there was pressure to pull her weight and think about the other people dependent on her, and how taking risks of being outed with Dianna was endangering all of their livelihoods.
The whole year was an emotional roller coaster that seems to have left them frustrated and heartbroken.
In Miss Americana Taylor talks about her eating disorder during the 1989 era, a blind released in 2020 suggests that her friends at the time were part of the reason.
‘I hosted parties and starved my body, like I’d be saved by a perfect kiss’ (You’re on Your Own, Kid)
She seems to still be feeling heartbroken.
Welcome to New York
“I wanted to start 1989 with this song because New York has been an important landscape and location for the story of my life in the last couple of years. I dreamt and obsessed over moving to New York, and then I did it. The inspiration that I found in that city is hard to describe and to compare to any other force of inspiration I’ve ever experienced in my life. It’s an electric city.” - Taylor Swift
“When I first discovered that I was in love with performing, I wanted to be in theater. So growing up, New York City was where I would come for auditions. Then I started taking voice lessons in the city, so my mom and I would drive two hours and have these adventures. I actually have a photo of my first Knicks game. I was 12 years old and I was in a halftime talent competition, but I didn’t win because the kid who won sang “New York, New York,” and I was like, “Here’s a song I wrote about a boy in my class …” I’m as optimistic and enthusiastic about New York as I am about the state of the music industry, and a lot of people aren’t optimistic about those two things. And if they’re not in that place in their life, they’re not going to relate to what I have to say.” - Genius Notes
“I woke up [one morning] at 4 a.m. and I [decided the album is] called 1989. I've been making '80s synth pop, I'm just gonna do that. I'm calling it a pop record. I'm not listening to anyone at my label.”— Swift on her musical direction for 1989
“When you feel like a guy you're dating has the upper hand, how do you change the game?
TS: Freeze-out.
CL: What's the freeze-out?
TS: You don't respond to any of his texts or calls until he does something desperate [like] shows up. Or he calls and leaves a voicemail. Something that makes it very clear to you that he's interested.
CL: Have you employed the freeze-out?
TS: [Nods. Pauses.] I think everyone should approach relationships from the perspective of playing it straight and giving someone the benefit of the doubt. Until he establishes that this is a game. And if it's a game, you need to win. The best thing to do is just walk away from the table.
CL: Is that winning?
TS: It is when they come back. [Laughs.] And if they don't, then they didn't care enough to begin with.
CL: Another reader question: Is it too clingy and too insecure to say "I don't like it when you don't text me back right away"?
TS: Guarding your heart and protecting your dignity are a little bit more important than clarifying the emotions of someone who's only texting you back three words. I've learned that from trying to figure out people who don't deserve to be figured out. When someone seems mysterious, we like to romanticize that he's "deep" or "complicated." But a lot of the time, things are exactly as they seem…. For a long time I was drawn to—and still am drawn to—people I find very interesting. [But] someone who sits and talks about themselves for an hour, you start to maybe wonder if, rather than trying so hard to be interesting, they could be a little bit more interested.
CL: Is this a dating observation?
TS: It's a human being observation.
CL: Give us a few more tricks.
TS: Never yell.
CL: Never yell?
TS: Silence speaks so much louder than screaming tantrums. Never give anyone an excuse to say that you're crazy.
CL: So will you continue to write about your personal life?
TS: One of my big goals as a human being is to continue to write what's really happening to me, even if it's a tough pill to swallow for people around me.... I do fear that if I ever were to have someone in my life who mattered, I would second-guess every one of my lyrics."- Glamour Interview
Yeesh. Looks like what she later addresses in Afterglow.
I lived like an island, punished you with silence
Went off like sirens, just crying
Why'd I have to break what I love so much?
Clean
Liner Note: She lost him, but she found herself, and somehow that was everything.
“Clean” I wrote as I was walking out of Liberty in London. Someone I used to date— it hit me that I’d been in the same city as him for two weeks and I hadn’t thought about it. When it did hit me, it was like, ‘Oh, I hope he’s doing well’. And nothing else. And you know how it is when you’re going through heartbreak. A heartbroken person is unlike any other person. Their time moves at a completely different pace than ours. It’s this mental, physical, emotional ache and feeling so conflicted. Nothing distracts you from it. Then time passes, and the more you live your life and create new habits, you get used to not having a text message every morning saying, ‘Hello, beautiful. Good morning.’ You get used to not calling someone at night to tell them how your day was. You replace these old habits with new habits, like texting your friends in a group chat all day and planning fun dinner parties and going out on adventures with your girlfriends, and then all of a sudden one day you’re in London and you realize you’ve been in the same place as your ex for two weeks and you’re fine. And you hope he’s fine. The first thought that came to my mind was – I’m finally clean.” - Genius Notes
Clean is the first song that Taylor timestamps 3:41. Even her ‘I’m over you’, she closes with ‘I love you.’
Later in an interview Karlie says Clean is her favorite track from 1989.
Some of the visuals Taylor uses during Clean on 1989, mirror the pictures of her and Dianna at the birthday weekend.
Dianna played Michelle Pheiffer’s on screen daughter in The Family (Released 10 Oct 2013)
*
Dianna’s wearing a coat, and Taylor’s dressed like this scene from the Style music video.
The music video was released exactly one year later.
Dianna’s glee co-star, Kevin tells a story on a 2020 episode of the Showmance podcast about Taylor stopping by the Glee Set “just to see who was there.”
I think this is when the ‘fall back together’ mentioned in Style plays out.
Guess something inspired her.
Style
Liner Note: Her heart belonged to someone who couldn’t stay
“I’m pretty sure when we finished this song I knew the record was done. “Shake It Off” and “Style” were the last two songs to be written for 1989. This one has always been my secret favorite hope — “I hope it ends up being a single”, “I hope people love it”. I love how this song sounds the way that feeling felt. I love when the sound of a song matches the feeling that inspired it — This song just reminds me of driving in the middle of the night. I loved comparing these timeless visuals with a feeling that never goes out of style.”
“There’s not always a case of who was right and who was wrong.” when she speaks about the relationship that inspired this song - it’s more complicated than that.” - Taylor Swift
She also describes the person who inspired the song as “that one person who you feel like might interrupt your wedding and be like ‘don’t do it, cause we’re not over yet’ I think everybody has that one person who kind of floats in and out of their life and the narrative is never truly over.” - Taylor Swift
“There are certain people that float in and out of your life sort of like a trend that keeps coming back in style and never fully fades away, and so that was the inspiration behind this song.” - Taylor Swift
“This song is about my life and I’ve never revealed who it’s actually about, but the song kind of speaks for itself, and the way that this song sounds and feels, that’s all I need people to know about that story.” - Interview with Ryan Seacrest
Shake It Off
Liner Note: She danced to forget him
“That song is essentially written about an important lesson I learned that really changed how I live my life and how I look at my life. I really wanted it to be a song that made people want to get up and dance at a wedding reception from the first drum beat. But I also wanted it to be a song that could help someone get through something really terrible, if they wanted to focus on the emotional profile, on the lyrics. Because I’ve had people say things to me like, “When my mom died, I listened to this every single day to help me get out of bed.” And then I’ve had people say, “I danced to this drunk at a wedding reception.” If they want to forget about the lyrics, they can, but if they want to hang on every word, they can do that, too.”
“It takes a long time to figure out who you are and where you fit in in the world. I’m putting myself in all these awkward situations where the dancers are incredible, and I’m having fun with it, but not fitting in. They’re doing the most beautiful things, and I’m being embarrassingly bad at it. It shows you to keep doing you, keep being you, keep trying to figure out where you fit in in the world, and eventually you will.”
“A few months later they saw each other again at an Oscars after-party, and Kloss suggested they do something spontaneous. “I’d been to Big Sur once before, and I was like, ‘We should just do it,’ ” says Swift.” - Vogue profile
Dianna loves Big Sur, and had taken trips with friends several times before. I suspect Taylor went with her in the previous trip she mentioned, and chose to take Karlie there because she wanted to hurt Dianna for not texting her back enough, or whatever sleight she was pissed about.
According to the Best Best Friends video, Taylor plays the whole of 1989 for Karlie while they’re on their road trip. I think the 1989 songs often attributed to Karlie are still about Dianna. I’ve analyzed Wildest Dreams, Bad Blood, and You Are In Love. I Know Places is occasionally argued as being a Kaylor song, but the clear connections to it in Wildest Dreams tells me they’re about the same muse, and the timeline just doesn’t make sense for me to think they could be Kaylor songs.
“So far this week, all I want to do is paint and all I want to paint are watercolor flowers.”
lol
Lots of Garden gate pics during this period of time. Taylor never tries to hide it, in fact she often turns and smiles at the camera.
The Met Gala was based on Old Hollywood Glam with the theme "Charles James: Beyond Fashion."
Dianna was there too, looking gorgeous and taking photos with Lea Michelle.
Taylor spends all night looking like she’s trying to pretend she’s not miserable.
‘I’ve been looking sad in all the nicest places’ (I Don’t Wanna Live Forever)
Later Taylor recreates this night in Wildest Dreams, which draws heavily from Old Hollywood, and ends with her driving away without the guy.
Before literally burying the version of herself who picked the wrong guy in Look What You Made Me Do. .
She also mentions that the last book she read was about Zelda Fitzgerald.
Taylor makes getting ready with Karlie sound like a fun pre-prom time, suggesting that them showing up together was part of their PR relationship.
First she cuts them out of the album cover and then she projects them behind her on stage like a ghostly reminder, haunting her every night.
Taylor’s uses eye imagery all through Red and 1989 in lyrics and music videos as well as the tour visuals, something that Dianna’s connected to her work and self expression as well.
‘Your eyes whispered, "Have we met?" (Enchanted)
‘Your eyes look like coming home’ (Everything Has Changed)
‘We can go where our eyes can take us’ (Run)
‘I became hypnotized by freckles and bright eyes’ (Message in a Bottle)
‘Open your eyes into mine’ (The Last Time)
‘Keep your ey-eyes open’ (Eyes Open)
‘He can’t keep his wild eyes on the road’ (Style)
‘In the dead of night, your eyes so green’ (I Know Places)
‘Didn’t you flash your green eyes at me?’ (Wonderland)
(There’s lots in later albums too)
She uses both ‘I’ and eye, and on occasion the roman numeral I and the number 1.
It seems to relate to the concept that they are ‘Twin Flames’ or one soul split between two bodies. Something referenced in the 10mv of All Too Well ‘Did the twin flame bruise paint you blue?’ and frequently shown by the use of two flames on candles and red/blue lighting.
In particular, this artwork reminds me of the image Taylor uses on her 1989 tour.
‘Just twin fire signs, four blue eyes’ (State of Grace)
‘Pale blue sky reflected in your eyes’ (Run)
This article is cited by TTB as one of the times Karlie slipped up about Josh but she actually didn’t. Josh is referenced as an irrelevant aside because she wasn’t asked about her own love life. She was asked specifically about Tay’s love life and whether or not she had “played matchmaker” for Tay. She… definitely hadn’t done that. She wasn’t lying.
Behind the Scenes Video One / Two
During the ballerina outtakes for Shake It Off, Taylor was talking about the ballerinas, and was breathing really heavily, and said “it was like heaven.”
Taylor does an interview with Rolling Stone during filming.
“I feel like watching my dating life has become a bit of a national pastime,” Swift says. “And I’m just not comfortable providing that kind of entertainment anymore. I don’t like seeing slide shows of guys I’ve apparently dated. I don’t like giving comedians the opportunity to make jokes about me at awards shows. I don’t like it when headlines read ‘Careful, Bro, She’ll Write a Song About You,’ because it trivializes my work. And most of all, I don’t like how all these factors add up to build the pressure so high in a new relationship that it gets snuffed out before it even has a chance to start. And so,” she says, “I just don’t date.”
(That goes for hooking up as well. “I just think it’s pointless if you’re not in love,” Swift says. “And I don’t have the energy to be in love right now. So, no.”)
Truth be told, Swift sounds a tiny bit jaded – which, for a “self-professed hopeless romantic,” maybe isn’t the worst thing to be. “It’s not like I’ve sworn off love,” she says. “My life is just not conducive to bringing other people into it right now. I’m very childlike and romantic about lots of things, but I’m realistic about this.”
Swift pauses, searching for a metaphor that will help her explain herself. “Have you heard of the Loneliest Whale? There’s this whale – I think Adrian Grenier is making a documentary about it. It swims through the ocean, and it has a call unlike any other whale’s. So it doesn’t have anyone to swim with. And everybody feels so sorry for this whale – but what if this whale is having a great time? Because it’s not bad that I’m not hopelessly in love with someone. It’s not a tragedy, and it’s not me giving up and being a spinster. Although I did get another cat.” She laughs. “I asked around: I was like, ‘Does two cats count as cats?’
“I would just be constantly writing all these zingers – like, ‘Burn. That would really get her.’ And I know people are going to obsess over who it’s about, because they think they have all my relationships mapped out. But there’s a reason there are not any overt call-outs in that song. My intent was not to create some gossip-fest.”
She’s SAD.
Worth noting Josh was there too.
"Dating or finding someone is the last thing on my mind, because I can't picture how it could work with the way my life is," she explained. "I don't know how a guy is supposed to walk next to his girlfriend when there are 20 men with cameras, and he can't protect his girlfriend because that's the life she chose. I just don't see how it could work, so I don't think about it, and I kind of run from it when it presents itself. 'Cause I don't think any guy really…" She paused. "They think that they would want to get to know me, and maybe date me, but I don't think they want what comes with it."
Swift fixed me with a look. "It's easier for me to not have to explain all of that to someone right now," she continued. "I've learnt how to do it, and my friends are cool with it, and it's fine, but somehow when you put a microscope on a relationship it seems to explode."
No one could feel sorry for Swift. It would be kind of vulgar. But watching her, in that big room, huddled up in a blanket, I felt an incredible sadness - loneliness, even - about her. It seemed awful that she should be plagued by anxieties about some eejit with an internet connection when, by rights, she should be on top of the world. Had she ever considered, I dared to hazard, just ignoring the haters? "I'm starting to become better at it," she replied. "I've focused on either not reading it or not caring about it, because I know at the end of the day that's not what people really care about. It's a quick news feed. But it's interesting when it's your life."
Thankfully, she rallied. Suddenly she was up, getting her phone to check who she'd been listening to - "Sam Smith, of course, everyone loves Sam Smith.
“a copy of Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald by the bed, partially read but much admired”
The following day, I received a bouquet of peonies with a short quote attached: "'Look closer and you'll see something extraordinary, mystifying… something real and true. We have never been what we've seemed.' My favorite quote from Z. Love, Taylor." Does Swift relate to Zelda Fitzgerald? One would hope not, considering how tragically things turned out for the original flapper. But extraordinary, mystifying, real and true? That's Swift to a T.
She’s sad. Which Sam Smith song was she listening to? I’d bet Not The Only One.
(Filmed 8 July 2014)
Taylor is spotted on a bench looking sad, in the Red outfit:
A clip of her in this outfit is later included in the Style music video:
Karlie posts about her new Whole Foods Karlie’s Kookies brand.
Karlie’s spokesperson responds: “Karlie and Taylor do not live together and have no plans to live together. The Daily Mail did not verify the facts of the story prior to publishing it.”
Ballerinas get tied to Karlie, but it’s worth noting Dianna is trained in ballet too. Taylor hops backwards like a bunny rabbit, which could be a Wonderland reference, or a nod to one of Dianna’s many nicknames.
In an interview on October 28th Taylor confirmed she ran 1989 past the muse, presumably this was her reaction to hearing Clean.
“That’s a new concept for me actually, writing songs about things that have happened in romantic relationships and being able to run them past the person that they’re about.” - Taylor Swift
“I was in a place where I felt like love isn’t everything to me. Like living my life, having fun, having the best friends I could possibly have and being the best friend I could possibly be: that’s what’s important to me. I feel like writing a song is sort of the last piece of the puzzle of solving whatever mystery I’m trying to solve emotionally. Things that kind of torture and haunt me a little bit are usually put to rest when I figure out a way to say it in a song. There’s a strange, eerie form of justice that happens when someone treats you terribly, you write a song about it, and that song ends up playing all over the world. You know at some point they’ve heard it in the grocery store, and they can’t escape. When I was in my late teens and early twenties, I was just fascinated by romance. I think now the most important thing to me is the opinions of the sisterhood of friends that I have now … I think that my girlfriends have been what has shaped me more in the past year and a half than any other factor.”
“TS: I fought the idea of having security for a very long time, because I really value normalcy. I really do. I like to be able to take a drive by myself. Haven't done that in six years.
SR: Even in Tennessee?
TS: No, they have to be in a car behind me. Because just the sheer number of men we have in a file who have showed up at my house, showed up at my mom's house, threatened to either kill me, kidnap me, or marry me. This is the strange and sad part of my life that I try not to think about. I try to be lighthearted about it, because I don't ever want to be scared. I don't want to be walking down the street scared. And when I have security, I don't have to be scared.
SR: Do you still have connections with human beings?
TS: It's a social situation every time I go out, but if I know I can't deal with talking to people that day, I just don't go out. I just have to wake up in the morning and say, How am I feeling today? If someone asks for a picture, am I gonna feel imposed upon today because I'm dealing with my own stuff? Am I gonna take my own stuff out on some innocent 14-year-old today and be in a bad mood? Okay, maybe not … Maybe I won't leave the house. I try really hard not to take bad days out on other people. Because I will get asked for an autograph, and I will get asked for a picture, and there will be someone with their cell phone filming me at a restaurant. If I'm not in the mood for that, I just kind of stay in. And that's fine. Those days don't happen very often. I try really hard to keep it light. Joy, enthusiasm, excitement—those are sort of my chief attributes….Can I play him something? So this is the first single—this is about the most important lesson I've learned in the last couple of years. ["Shake It Off" plays through earbuds.]
Don’t take this too seriously, it just made me laugh so I thought I’d share. (Source: JennyBoom21)
“Swift leads the way into one of her four guest bedrooms. “This is where Karlie usually stays,” she says – meaning supermodel Karlie Kloss, one of her new BFFs, whom she met nine months ago at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show. There’s a basket of Kloss’s favorite Whole Foods treats next to the bed, and multiple photos of her on the walls. Against another wall, there’s a rack full of white nightgowns. “This is a thing me and Lena have,” says Swift – meaning Lena Dunham, another recent friend. “We wear them during the day and look like pioneer women, fresh off the Oregon Trail.” - Rolling Stone
This seems like Tay is going through some stuff and flexing her “squad” for PR purposes. Remember, that was the narrative in place for this era. Also, notice the branded Whole Foods plug there – this is not a romantic girlfriend moment, it’s Taylor helping Karlie sell her Whole Foods Kookies.
There’s a song on the new album in which Swift takes a fatalist view of romance. “I think the way I used to approach relationships was very idealistic,” she says. “I used to go into them thinking, ‘Maybe this is the one — we’ll get married and have a family, this could be forever.’ Whereas now I go in thinking, ‘How long do we have on the clock — before something comes along and puts a wrench in it, or your publicist calls and says this isn’t a good idea?'”
When it comes to dating when you’re a celebrity, Swift says, “you do feel a little bit like you got run over by a truck. You’ll be riding in the car with someone and all of a sudden it comes on the radio that he bought you a diamond ring and he’s going to propose. And you look at him and go, ‘…that’s not true, right?’ And he says, ‘No that’s not true!’ Can you blame me for wanting less of that?”
“Once you’ve established that someone doesn’t belong in your life, I don’t understand what more there is to talk about,” she says. “I walk away from things when they’re bad. I don’t stick around to watch them burn to the ground.” She says when she decides a relationship has “become toxic,” “I’ll just check out. Stop communication. I don’t want to scream and yell at someone and give them the opportunity to say I’m crazy, or that I went psycho,” she says. “No one will ever be able to say I went psycho on them.” - Rolling Stone
In a particularly intense performance of IKYWT, Taylor appears to sing ‘she never loved me’ at 2:43.
I have no idea if this is relevant, but it amuses me.
Still doing mutually beneficial PR.
She spends the next few days in a Hotel in New York, getting papped on the 28th when she steps out to chat with a friend. September 28th is the anniversary of Swiftgron’s Paris trip in 2012. They were both in New York, and Taylor wasn’t seen for a few days. I think it’s possible Dianna decided to extend her trip to see Taylor.
‘Dark jeans and your nike’s look at you’ (Delicate)
The ever brilliant Jenny picks up on the connection to Dianna’s earlier tweets.
1989 London Secret Sessions and Interview for InStyle
“I'm too young to get married. Not agewise, but I know myself, so why try to meet someone right now when I know I'm too young to do something serious? I've only had three real relationships, and none of them lasted more than four months. I haven't gone near a guy in a year and a half. There are usually 15 paparazzi waiting outside my house, so if I'd had a guy over here, there would have been photos of him. I have friends who will say to me, 'The press is hating on me for partying,' and I'm like, 'Then why don't you stop partying?' If you honestly want them to have nothing to write about, give them nothing to write about.”
She has sparkly red lipstick in the I Don’t Wanna Live Forever music video later too.
Karlie promotes it on her instagram. Taylor said in this interview that she ran 1989 by the muse.
“That’s a new concept for me actually, writing songs about things that have happened in romantic relationships and being able to run them past the person that they’re about,” - Taylor Swift
In an interview with Pop Crush, she said This Love is the song she keeps going back to. Maybe not so ‘Clean’ after all.
Taylor’s “Never Really Over” interview with Global News
You describe a guy that has a James Dean look in his eye, long hair slicked back, white T-shirt- You date, break up, you date again. Is this autobiographical?
“The song is actually about- kind of those relationships that are never really done. You know you always kind of have that person. That one person who you feel like might interrupt your wedding [laughs] and be like “don’t do it ‘cause we’re not over yet!” um- I think everyone has that one person who kind of- floats in and out of their life and is never tru- like the narrative is never truly over.”
In another interview Taylor says, “I'm in New York because I wanna be in New York... absolutely no one influencing me and that is something I'm very proud of… It’s important in your 20s not to use other relationships as a Band-Aid for if one doesn’t work.”
“It’s weird because I’m so public about talking about my friends but I never talk about my relationships but it’s weird when you have a romantic relationship that transitions into being one of your really close friends, so it’s like do I talk about it? Do I not talk about it? But yeah that song I wrote was about a relationship that transformed into a really close friendship.”
Several articles come out afterwards, this one going as far as calling out the bottle of Diet Coke and that Taylor’s a spokeswoman for the brand. 😂 Seems like Tree was there too, so it seems to at least partly be PR.
“In the past, I've written mostly about heartbreak or pain that was caused by someone else and felt by me. On this album, I'm writing about more complex relationships, where the blame is kind of split 50-50. I'm writing about looking back on a relationship and feeling a sense of pride even though it didn't work out, reminiscing on something that ended but you still feel good about it, falling in love with a city, falling in love with a feeling rather than a person. And I think there's actually sort of a realism to my new approach to relationships, which is a little more fatalistic than anything I used to think about them. I used to think that, you know, you find "the one." And it's happily ever after, and it's never a struggle after that. You have a few experiences with love and relationships, and you learn that that's not the case at all. Lots of things are gray areas and complicated situations, and even if you find the right situation relationship-wise, it's always going to be a daily struggle to make it work. So those are different themes that I don't think people have really seen in my lyrics before….Hit the brakes too soon could mean the literal sense of, we got in an accident and we had to deal with the aftermath. But also, the relationship ended sooner than it should've because there was a lot of fear involved. And that song touches on a huge sense of anxiety that was, kind of, coursing through that particular relationship, because we really felt the heat of every single person in the media thinking they could draw up the narrative of what we were going through and debate and speculate. I don't think it's ever going to be easy for me to find love and block out all those screaming voices….I need to treat people well. I need to be grateful. I need to take pictures with people when they ask for one. So if I'm not in the mood to do that, I don't leave my house.”
The deer and the hunting dogs stick out to me:
This Kaylor timeline mentions that Josh was rumored to be around during the shoot, and given he posted a picture geotagged Big Sur a few days later, it seems to be true.
I think Dianna must have taken her by surprise because Taylor hung onto her for so long an usher had to place her in the seat next to Karlie, so the performance could start.
In the gif’s below you can see Taylor sneaking looks at her.
Dianna was there to present Sam Smith’s performance of “I’m not the only one”. While Taylor danced and sang along.
Josh posted this pic while Taylor and Karlie were cuddled up live on TV:
Dianna’s red carpet interview, and posing for photos.
When Dianna first arrived she seemed excited, if exhausted from her long flight. Karlie and Taylor were all over each other that night, and reports say Dianna left early.
It strikes me as a pretty important and painful night in the Swiftgron timeline. I think Exile and Gorgeous reference this night at the AMA’s.
‘I can see you standing honey, with his arms around your body, laughing but the joke’s not funny at all’ (Exile)
‘You should take it as a compliment that I'm talking to everyone here but you and you should think about the consequence of you touching my hand in the darkened room’ (Gorgeous)
Gorgeous
Exile
“Exile is a song that was written about miscommunications in relationships, and in the case of this song, I imagined that the miscommunications ended the relationship. They led to the demise of this love affair, and now these two people are seeing each other out for the first time, and they keep miscommunicating with each other. They can’t quite get on the same page, they never were able to. And even in their end, even after they’ve broken up, they’re still not hearing each other. So we imagined the beginning would be his side of the story, the second verse her side of the story, and the end would be the story of them talking over each other and not hearing each other. We’re really stoked about how it turned out because it really does seem to be about the tragedy of two people, of two ships passing in the night.” - Radio Clip
“Taylor wrote that one with the singer-songwriter William Bowery. When Taylor sent it to me as a voice memo, she sang both the male and female parts—as much as she could fit in without losing her breath. We talked about who she was imagining joining her, and she loves Justin [Vernon]’s voice in Bon Iver and Big Red Machine. She was like, “Oh my god, I would die if he would do it. It would be so perfect.” I didn’t want to put pressure on Justin as his friend, so I said, “Well, it depends on if he’s inspired by the song but I know he thinks you’re rad.” Which he does. So I sent him the song and he was really into it. He tweaked some parts and added parts as well—the bridge where he says, “Step right out.” The end too, and his choral parts. It was fun because Justin and I work on a lot of stuff together, so it was very easy and natural. At some point I felt like a superfan, hearing two of my favorite singers. This was all being done remotely, but it was one of those moments where your head hits the back of the wall and you’re like, “Fuck. Okay.” - Pitchfork Interview
Karlie posts a picture with Josh (the caption is a heart emoji). According to E!, this is from the Big Sur trip as well. A few days later, Karlie posts more pics of her and Josh on their Big Sur trip, further confirming he was at the Vogue Shoot.
Karlie talks to E! about how excited she and Taylor are for the VSFS, and how it’s like “going to prom!” Karlie then talks to Glamour about Taylor and the VSFS, saying how excited she is to experience the show with her BFF. Once again, she’s using the idea of their friendship to encourage viewers to tune in and promote their individual brand deals with VSFS.
Newsflash: Taylor digs boobs.
This was also the start of #Edlor.😂
Karlie and Taylor dance together and appear to be filmed cuddly and possibly kissing. Someone tweets that Karlie and Josh are making out at one point as well.
Taylor goes home and goes on a Kaylor liking spree.
The next day when the Kissgate footage gets out, she unlikes everything.
A rep calls the rumors that Taylor and Karlie were kissing ‘hilarious’ without an explicit denial. Taylor tweets this:
And follows it up by liking a couple of tumblr posts calling out Kaylor shippers.
Swifties notice and speculate that she was probably fine with it when it was a joke, but became uncomfortable when the media started writing articles about it.
Karlie posts this captioned with the Style Lyrics
Bringing up their friendship again.
And does another one the next day calling Taylor an ‘honorary angel’
They follow it up with a viewing party, so they’re definitely not disappearing like Taylor and Dianna did following the fake news article.
The Chronological Timestamps tumblr says:
“The Kaylor heavy VSFS airs. However, it’s not only Karlie who’s getting attention. To claim that Taylor only has eyes for Karlie is objectively untrue. Here she is giving heart eyes to Alessandra Ambrosio. I think Tay just really liked being around… all these gorgeous women honestly. And I think it supports them not actually being together around this time, because one imagines Karlie getting a little possessive otherwise. Both Karlie and Taylor attend the viewing party and are seen being very affectionate and friendly, so it’s unlikely that Kissgate caused any sort of rift or pivot. This is a stark contrast to how Tay’s team responded to gay rumors for Swiftgron. And it breaks fandom lore. They weren’t hiding, they weren’t distant. They were carrying on.” - (Chronological Timestamps)
Karlie and her sister Kimby attend.

Interesting that this B list celebrity/model pulled out the credit card of this A+ list female singer while out on a shopping spree this past week and her own card was declined.

And says that Taylor’s the one to do the dishes afterwards.
An actor named Michael Trevino was on the show The Originals and he dated Jenna Ushkowitz from 2011-2014. Michael was at the 26th circus themed birthday party Taylor threw for Dianna.
The next day Karlie posts this:
2014 Conclusion: Rough year for Taylor. More than one interviewer expressed that she seemed sad, even though she was obviously trying to mask it. Between Jack’s almost outing, the article about living with Karlie and Kissgate there have been a few threats to ‘the big secret’ as Enty later calls it.

This A+ list singer had a vacation planned with her bff for this upcoming week. Not going to happen. Apparently they do not even text or call or communicate any longer and there are some very crushed feelings on the part of the bff. The singer is being very very cold about the whole situation and says nothing comes before the brand.
Taylor Swift and Karlie Kloss
Taylor likes this post on tumblr.
“Taylor wasn’t dancing. They kept saying they had to go. Taylor seemed like she was having a meltdown and had to be comforted by Cara. She was seen later in the lobby pacing in circles with smudged eye makeup. Later she and Cara were on a bench outside talking privately.”
Article changed the next day, to say that it was a friendly meeting and she hugged him.
“Putting pressure on yourself is good, but putting unnecessary stress on yourself is bad—so I don’t worry that I haven’t started the next record yet. I don’t worry that I don’t know what it’s going to be. I’m not worried that I have absolutely no timetable as to when it needs to be done. It could be two years from now; it could be three, it could be four. Or it could be one. You get these bursts of inspiration right at the moment you’re not expecting to. You just have to live your life, and hopefully you’ll take the right risks….Swift says she and her friends don’t talk much about work. “The fun thing about my friends is that they don’t necessarily know a lot about what I do business-wise,” she says. The first time Kloss ever saw Swift pick up a guitar and noodle around on it was during the photo shoot for this story. “I’m not one of those singers who’s always like, ‘Look at me!’ ” says Swift. “I’m not the person who grabs the guitar at a party and wants all the attention. I have attention on me enough, so I want my friends to just like me because we have things in common rather than me sitting in a corner being like, ‘Listen to this song that I wrote about my life!’”
No matter how busy they are, though, Swift and Kloss continue to make time for each other. Swift recently had Kloss over to her place for a night of cooking pasta with model Martha Hunt, stylist Ashley Avignone, and Tavi Gevinson. A few days later that same group went to dinner at Ralph Lauren’s restaurant, the Polo Bar, in midtown. (“The French fries were delicious,” says Kloss.)
Kloss says that bringing together disparate women from different industries may be Swift’s most unsung talent. “I’ve met a lot of really great girls through Taylor. She’s incredible at connecting people who might not normally meet. We’re all in different jobs, but we’ve become strong friends who are there for each other—a sisterhood of girls, a support team. But we’re also just normal 20-something girls, and I think you have to have people that you can be that with. You know, real friends are hard to find—and Taylor’s a real friend. There’s nothing better.”
Taylor’s not writing about her relationship with Karlie at this point, which is pretty loud to me.
Taylor tweets “I didn’t get the ‘let’s all wear black’ memo.” with this picture
Everyone else posts pictures to their socials as well. Whether it was a legit get together or not, they’re all using it as PR.
“The damage, however, was minimal, with the offending tweets simply suggesting Swift’s fans follow the “@lizzard” account and a user named “@veriuser,” who claimed to be the leader of the responsible hacking group, Lizard Squad (the latter account has been suspended). Similarly, an Instagram photo sent out to Swift’s over 20 million followers urged users to follow another user supposedly involved in the Twitter hack.” “The hackers also claimed to have stolen nude photos of Swift, which they would release for a small payment in Bitcoin. While the hackers may well be bluffing in order to quickly profit off of a social media break in, it became clear over the summer that the private photo thefts are a serious threat. Services like iCloud can automatically back up all of the photos on someone’s phone, and that means an intruder can easily grab all of those. After dozens of celebrities had private photos stolen and then published online last year, Apple introduced new security measures, but it isn’t clear how effective those will be to prevent future attacks.”
This would have been around the time that Taylor’s mom’s cancer came back. They seem to try going undetected, but after fans post a pic they post too.

Karlie Kloss/Taylor Swift
I broke down the significance of 143 here.
Taylor says “my publicist would get mad at me” if she explained why she was there.
In a later Vanity Fair Interview she says:
“I feel like I wasn’t ready to be friends with him until I felt like he had some sort of respect for me, and he wasn’t ready to be friends with me until he had some sort of respect for me—so it was the same issue, and we both reached the same place at the same time,” she says. “I became friends with Jay Z, and I think it was important, for Jay Z, for Kanye and I to get along.” She continues, “It started with both of us really liking Jay and wanting him to be happy. And then Kanye and I both reached a place where he would say really nice things about my music and what I’ve accomplished, and I could ask him how his kid’s doing. Swift leans forward and smiles coyly when asked if she and West have planned a collaboration, responding she “wouldn’t rule it out.” She assesses, diplomatically, “We haven’t planned anything. But, hey, I like him as a person. And that’s a really good, nice first step, a nice place for us to be.” I tell her that there’s an animated GIF of her and Kardashian, dancing in the audience at the Brit Awards, that I really like, and she immediately knows the one I’m talking about. “I love Kim,” she says. “She’s the sweetest. She’s just a really sweet, kind, warm person.”
In an Interview with Rolling Stone she says:
“I started to feel like we reconnected, which felt great for me — because all I ever wanted my whole career after that thing happened in 2009 was for him to respect me. When someone doesn’t respect you so loudly and says you literally don’t deserve to be here — I just so badly wanted that respect from him, and I hate that about myself, that I was like, “This guy who’s antagonizing me, I just want his approval.” But that’s where I was. And so we’d go to dinner and stuff. And I was so happy, because he would say really nice things about my music. It just felt like I was healing some childhood rejection or something from when I was 19.”

So It Goes - Analysis
“I’d just become a father. I was not in the room when the melody and the lyrics were written. Max and Shellback did half of the album with her in L.A., and I had done this [instrumental] track—which is weird too, because I don’t do tracks. No one really does tracks on our team now. But I’d started that idea. Shellback was looking through things on his computer, listened to that track, and Taylor reacted to it. "Oh, what’s that? That’s special. I haven’t done anything like that. Can we do that?"
So they were vibing and doing melodies, and Taylor had the lyrics. She wrote everything quickly. I woke up—this is the funny part of the story—and someone is FaceTiming me at 6:30 in the morning. I’ve just had a child. I was up all night and my eyes were bloodshot and my hair was crazy. I saw it was Shellback and I ignored the call, put my phone away, and jumped into the shower. My girlfriend is like, "Can you answer your phone? Someone’s calling you constantly, it’s Johan [Shellback]! Can you just take it?" I got out of the shower with a towel wrapped around me and I texted Shellback like, "Ok, it’s 6:30 a.m., I am so tired, I’ve been up all night, and I just got out of the shower. Can I call you back later?" He said, "No. Call me. Now." [Laughs.]
I called him back and saw this girl on his couch. She goes, "Hi! It’s Taylor! How are you?" And I’m presenting myself [in a towel] after a shower… it was a very unpleasant picture for her. She goes, "We just heard the track. We had the melody. The lyrics are like this. I can read you the lyrics! I had this idea. What do you think about that?" And I was like, "…yes!" It was a very strange songwriting session for me, but I’m very thankful for that. It’s the one FaceTime call I’ll remember for the rest of my life.” - Oscar Gores

No Bad Blood here.
Karlie does an interview with E! and talks about sharing clothes with Taylor.
“‘You could easily picture her becoming this generation’s Grace Kelly. “Yeah, right,” she says. “Where’s my Prince Charming?” That may be her boyfriend Joshua Kushner, a founder of the investment firm Thrive Capital, which works with a number of startups, and scion of a prominent real-estate family in New York. His brother Jared is married to Ivanka Trump. “I don’t talk about him too much,” she says, but does admit, “I feel lucky I have met someone who inspires me and challenges me in ways that I never had before.”’
‘Style’ is a song that I wrote about kind of observing fashion trends and cultural trends and seeing how there are certain things that are constants, you know, like you may not wear a little black dress for a while but you’re always gonna go back to it. No one’s gonna say, ‘Oh, red lips are so two years ago.’ There are certain staples, and I started thinking about that in terms of a feeling. There are certain feelings like that. There are certain people that float in and out of your life sort of like a trend that keeps coming back in style and never fully fades away, and so that was the inspiration behind this song.”
“This was a relationship where I was kind of living day to day wondering it was going, if it was gonna go anywhere, if it was gonna end the next day. It was a relationship where you kind of never feel like you’re standing on solid ground, and that kind of a feeling brings on excitement but also extreme anxiety and kind of a frantic feeling of wondering (and) endless questions, and this song sounds exactly like that frantic feeling of anxiety and questioning but it stresses that even if a relationship is breakable and fragile and full of anxiety, it doesn’t mean that it isn’t worthwhile, exciting, beautiful and all the things that we look for.”
I think the lyric ‘Maybe you ran with the wolves and refused to settle down’ from Afterglow references this song, and I think Dianna might have written it. (Analysis)
Lyrics:
Wide-eyed with a heart made full of fright
Your eyes follow like tracers in the night
And the tightrope that you wander everytime
You have been weighed, you have been found wanting
Been wondering for days
How you felt me slip your mind
Leave behind your wanton ways
I want to learn to love in kind
'Cause you were all I ever longed for
Sheltered, you better keep the wolf back from the door
He wanders ever closer every night
And how he waits begging for blood
I promised you everything would be fine
Been wondering for days
How you felt me slip your mind
Leave behind your wanton ways
I want to learn to love in kind
'Cause you were all I ever longed for
Hold my gaze love, you know I want to let it go
We will stare down at the wonder of it all
And I-I will hold you in it and I-I will hold you in it
“Well, I just don't place much priority on looking cool," she shrugs. "And I think at 25, I'm finally OK with feeling that. I've said this before. I think there's this priority on having this persona of being edgy or cool or bored. And those things are all sexy. All those things are chic, when you seem not to care about anything other than yourself. And I just don't buy into it. I'm really excited by lots of things. I think enthusiasm is the best protection. It can protect you from anything. And I don't feel bored by any of this, so I don't strive to look bored by any of this. Yeah, I do feel jaded about relationships, to be honest," she says. "I think the media has sent me a really unfair message over the past couple of years, which is that I'm not allowed to date for excitement, or fun, or new experiences or learning lessons. I'm only allowed to date if it's for a lasting, multiple-year relationship. Otherwise I'm a, quote, 'serial dater'. Or, quote, 'boy crazy'. The narrative has been so wrong, every time it was the same. It's 'Taylor spotted talking to this guy, she's chasing him.' They create a beginning to the story that didn't happen most of the time, so then they have to create an ending. So they always go to the same fabricated ending that every other tabloid has used in my story, which is, 'She got too clingy', or 'Taylor has too many emotions, she scared him away'. Which has honestly never been the reason for any of my break-ups. You know what has been the reason? The media. You take something very fragile, like trying to get to know someone, and it feels like walking out into the middle of a gladiator arena with someone you've just met. And all of a sudden the public and the media are allowed to say thumbs up or thumbs down. So I just don't try it any more. Well, there is no easy way for me to engage with romance. I'm really busy, so I can't. And it's a good thing that I feel really independent and I feel that my friends are all I need. It's kind of a sad way I got there, though, being shamed into it."
Shamed?
"Well, what else is it when you have two boyfriends in one year and everyone's calling you boy crazy, making jokes about you at awards shows? That's public humiliation. And I don't think it's fair."
She’s justifiably frustrated, and seems to still be mourning a relationship broken by external forces.

Kaylor seems to be on the outs, they’re still appearing together for events, and both stunting heavily post Kissgate.
“My group of girlfriends have become one of the most important things in my life. Honestly, I think you have to prioritize the things that matter the most to you. And the things that matter the most to me are my friends,” she said. “We’re always in contact. We’re on a million different group texts. We’re just always figuring out when we can coincide our busy schedules and get together… I’ve never been so happy with my group of friends as I am now.”
“We went out for rehearsals and we actually moved everyone to this kind of the middle of nowhere-ish farmland, so that we can have a secret location to rehearse and one of the houses we were renting had a bunch of sheep. I would just go, when I had any free time, I would just go and hangout with the sheep and they would be so rude to me,” Taylor said. “Goats are cool, goats are fine,” she added. “I can tell you this, for a fact, sheep are ruder than goats.”
She also gushes about the Squad in a piece called ‘The 10 women who changed my life’ it’s all very pre-tour PR.
“This is 29. Spoiled rotten. Funny enough, at work they were painting the hallways white and the roses (hallway doors) red, then I actually went to Wonderland (@AliceUnderLdn) and came home to a surprise flamingo. Here we go. Another year around the sun…feeling lucky and loved and loved and lucky.”

“Both of them are lonely and both of them are wishing that the other had just said to them “I’m sorry. Come back. I miss you.”
I think it’s likely a response to the rumored rift between them.
My Swiftgron Analysis. It’s a Swiftgron breakup song.
That’s the night this is taken.
It seems from here on Karlie and Taylor are only seen together in groups.
Taylor talks about what it’s like to be in a “gray area” with someone you love:
“In theory, that is supposed to be simple, but a lot of the time what we end up talking about is how you feel like you love someone but you don’t know if they love you back, or you want to be with someone but they’re not sure they want to commit, or you’re texting someone you really like, but they wait, like, four hours to text you back, which is just rude, I think. Anyway, what I’m getting around to is that it breaks my heart every time I hear that you’re in some weird gray area, no-man’s-land with someone that you wanna be with, because I think that everyone should want to be with you. I think it should be an honor for someone if you like them. I want you to be happy. And I guess I just wish that things could be more simple. I wish that in relationships you only had two options. I wish that option one in relationships is you leave, or, option number two is, you stay!” - Taylor Swift
Most of the interview is PR for the squad.
“If you’re a people pleaser, like most of us are, you try to adapt to what signals that person is giving off,” she says. “It’s not about changing the fact that you’re a people pleaser; it’s about finding someone [to date] who is not critical. That can be the most painful thing, trying to love someone who is critical in their nature.”
Has that happened to her?, I ask, even though the answer is already obvious.
“Uh, yes,” she says. “But usually I don’t make the same mistake twice. I make new ones, but I don’t usually repeat my old ones.”
Taylor’s mom Andrea is there too.
After Tumblr figures this out, Taylor gets online and likes a post saying that Kaylor’s make them uncomfortable, and that they need to stop saying they’re fake dating people. However, Taylor was still following more than 20 Kaylor’s on tumblr, Karlie had been liking non-platonic Kaylor content the night before and Karlie’s sister was still favoriting tweets about them being girlfriends on twitter.
It’s impassioned and she gets a bit choked up on the bridge.
Taylor gives the speech before AYHTDWS, but changes it slightly:
“I don’t really like gray areas. I don’t really like when people say “I don’t know” when it’s a basic yes-or-no question. “Do you wanna be with me?” “Yes” or “no” is the answer. And I tend to think that, you know, relationships are much less complicated than we make them if we simplify it to two basic options. Would you like to hear the two basic options, Boston? Okay, I think that your two real decisions, and your two real options in a relationship are: you either leave or you stay!”
Taylor also puts up an open letter to Apple Music about not making her music available on their platform.
She claims she and Taylor met for the first time at VSFS 2013 and were introduced by Lily Aldridge, which isn’t true but is the story they keep telling.
Talks about the Wildest Dreams shoot, her frustration over the media talking about her being ‘boy crazy’ again.
Swift came up with the concept after reading a book by Ava Gardner and Peter Evans, The Secret Conversations. Her premise for the video (co-starring Clint Eastwood’s son) is that—since social media did not exist in the ’50s—it would be impossible for actors not to fall in love if they were isolated together in Africa, since there would be no one else to talk to.
A former acquaintance of Swift’s who offhandedly described her as “calculating.” This is the only moment during our interview when Swift appears remotely flustered. She really, really hates the word calculating. She despises how it has become tethered to her iconography and believes the person I met has been the singular voice regurgitating this categorization. As she explains these things, her speech does not oscillate from the second mode. “Am I shooting from the hip?” she asks rhetorically. “Would any of this have happened if I was? In that sense, I do think about things before they happen. But here was someone taking a positive thing—the fact that I think about things and that I care about my work—and trying to make that into an insinuation about my personal life. Highly offensive. You can be accidentally successful for three or four years. Accidents happen. But careers take hard work.’
‘You might think a meet-and-greet with 150 people sounds sad, because maybe you think I’m forced to do it. But you would be surprised. A meaningful conversation doesn’t mean that conversation has to last an hour. A meet-and-greet might sound weird to someone who’s never done one, but after ten years, you learn to appreciate happiness when it happens, and that happiness is rare and fleeting, and that you’re not entitled to it. You know, during the first few years of your career, the only thing anyone says to you is ‘Enjoy this. Just enjoy this.’ That’s all they ever tell you. And I finally know how to do that.’
Taylor Swift is 25. But she’s older than you.”
In a later interview she says:
“But the 2015 VMAs come around. He’s getting the Vanguard Award. He called me up beforehand — I didn’t illegally record it, so I can’t play it for you. But he called me up, maybe a week or so before the event, and we had maybe over an hour long conversation, and he’s like, “I really, really would like for you to present this Vanguard Award to me, this would mean so much to me,” and went into all the reasons why it means so much, because he can be so sweet. He can be the sweetest. And I was so stoked that he asked me that. And so I wrote this speech up…”
Following him shooting his mouth off online and getting a number of big names firing back.
‘I just heard John Legend is coming tonight so I called Chrissy [Teigen, Legend’s wife] to see if he’d sing ‘All Of Me’ with me,” she says, breathlessly. “He’s going to do it. No rehearsal! No pressure!’ She pulls a face of exaggerated, excited worry. ...Back in the dressing room, Swift speaks about the challenge of following the stellar ‘1989’. Does the thought scare her? “Nooooooo. How could the next one be as big? Maybe the next album will be a bridge to somewhere else. Or maybe I’ll just go ahead and change everything.” I ask for a hint from the handful of songs she’s written so far and she replies with a scoff. “No! Why would I do that?! God!” The 1989 Tour wraps up in December. After that, Swift says, “I think I should take some time off. I think people might need a break from me. I’m going to… I don’t know. Hang out with my friends. Write new music. Maybe not write new music. I don’t know.” She genuinely looks like she hasn’t really thought about it yet.”
I think she’s struggling with the strain, and still mostly not writing. The songs she's finished would be So It Goes and Dancing With Our Hands Tied.
In a later interview Taylor says:
“And so I wrote this speech up, and then we get to the VMAs and I make this speech and he screams, “MTV got Taylor Swift up here to present me this award for ratings!” [His exact words: “You know how many times they announced Taylor was going to give me the award ’cause it got them more ratings?”] And I’m standing in the audience with my arm around his wife, and this chill ran through my body. I realized he is so two-faced. That he wants to be nice to me behind the scenes, but then he wants to look cool, get up in front of everyone and talk ***. And I was so upset. He wanted me to come talk to him after the event in his dressing room. I wouldn’t go. So then he sent this big, big thing of flowers the next day to apologize. And I was like, “You know what? I really don’t want us to be on bad terms again. So whatever, I’m just going to move past this...”
My Swiftgron analysis, and as we established earlier the end seems to be based on the events at the 2014 MET Gala.
The next month Taylor counter sues for sexual assault
Things start to get frustrating for Taylor. She’s still bearding with the forgettable one, and Katy takes offense at Bad Blood, which is probably fair since Taylor and her team push the narrative that it’s about her. When it’s actually a Swiftgron breakup song.
Probably recording This Is What You Came For.
Interview for Vogue Australia
“Things are good right now but I'm never going to be stupid, foolish or ignorant enough to think I have control over the public. All I can control is making good music. I am so lucky that people seem to like me right now, but in no way, shape or form is it a permanent thing. And I think being aware of that is what keeps you smart and is what keeps you on the game. This album has produced more number ones than any album in the past, so we're just going to go with it. Then I'll feel like I'll need to give people a breather from me because at a certain point they're going to get a little sick of hearing about me, so I'll need to go away for a while then, depending on my gauge on how sick of me they are, I'll decide when to put out the next album. I don't think that I would care 1/16th as much if I didn't write every song lyric that you hear me sing. It drives everything, it drives creative ideas about what the music videos are going to be, it drives the production elements that are going to be on tour and the stories I want to tell. It absolutely determines everything; everything's drawn from the lyrics."
It was about the loss of friendship."
Taylor watches that scene by the campfire and next thing you know she’s inviting Dianna out to Australia to shoot her music video with her. Lol
More realistically it would likely have had to be planned for longer than that. But who knows, maybe she got her hands on an advance screening.
‘So called friends’ (Tis the Damn Season)
She talks about her ongoing conversion to Judaism for Josh.
On the 20th, the 21st, and the 22nd Dianna is photographed shopping on her own and walking with Winston. She’s not normally caught by the cameras that often, which makes me wonder if it was because she was about to leave to film Taylor’s music video.
He posts “Welcome to the fam Karlie Kloss”
These polaroids support my theory that Taylor got Dianna to be her body double in this scene.
Why’s it of US unless both of you played that role?
She was looking at you.
Her other half, the reflection that made it so she couldn’t even look in the mirror.
So stoked to be able to take my band and crew on a vacation at the end of a long and wonderful tour. For all their hard work this year, they really deserve it. Thank you to Hamilton Island for taking such great care of 125 of the people who work tirelessly to make sure the 1989 World Tour stage gets built, the lights are on, the costumes are made, the guitars are tuned, and the show goes on.
Aussie press, I love your enthusiasm but my birthday isn’t for 2 weeks and it’ll be a quiet one this year. Let’s take it down a notch:)

You can see it with the lights out.

Taylor’s back, and spends her birthday stunting with Calvin in California.
Enty posts a blind about Taylor and Ruby Rose, but it seems like speculation to me.
4. ENTERTAINMENT LAWYER 01/03
I guess we know who this almost television actress/part-time movie actress moved on to from her girlfriend. This A+ list singer is so good at hiding people in plain sight.
Ruby Rose / Taylor Swift
2015 Conclusion: Taylor and Karlie are on the outs. Josh and Karlie seem to be back to going strong with whatever the heck they are. Dianna and Taylor have interacted a few times, and the few times Taylor’s been recording follow those interactions. All of Taylor’s interviews have seemed pretty miserable, and her gay pining picked up near the end of the year immediately proceeding what I’m pretty sure was sneaking Dianna into the filming for Out of the Woods.
