VALUE FOCUS FOR NEXT TWO WEEKS: Initiative and Perseverance
From The Principal
Kia ora tatou katoa, Annyong Haseyo, Talofa, Malo e lelei, Bula vi naka, Kia orana Nga mihi nui ki a koutou, Namaste, Nihao, Greetings to you all.
Our term is whizzing along really quickly, here it is week 3 already. This week has been action packed. Hopefully many of you have had opportunities to watch on the television, some of our great Olympians competing at Rio. Fantastic opening programme!!!
Our own Olympics held on Friday were very successful and enjoyed by everyone. Thanks to Mrs Graham and Mrs Howard for your organisation to get this programme up and running.
Our Maths Olympiad sessions went really well and there was a lot of hard work thinking about how to solve the many mathematical questions that the teams were presented with.
Room 22’s dance group performance at Elim Christian School was a great success. You were all fabulous and obviously enjoyed yourselves. Many thanks to all those who supported us and helped out on the evening to ensure the children were all ready for the show on time. Many thanks to Matua Faenza and the students for all the hard work and many practices.
Our sports teams have proved to be great and tough to beat…well done everyone. We are very proud of all your hard work and the expertise that you are showing. Great sportsmanship is really key to all your successes during your games.
The weather is definitely colder at the moment, please ensure that your children are dressed warmly. We have lots of unnamed, unclaimed lost property outside Room 9. Please ensure that all articles of clothing are clearly named with the correct name.
Please do not park on the roadside by the cones on Thursday 25 August as we are expecting two large coaches to park there.
Thanks for your continued support. Have a lovely weekend.
Cheers
Trish Plowright
Principal

Looking Ahead
BEANIES AND SOCKS FOR SALE - Please remember that we have beanies for sale in the uniform shop for $5. We also have navy ankle socks for wearing with trackpants. These come in sizes 13-3, 4-6, 7-9. THere are also navy knee high socks for older girls in sizes 13-3 and 4-6.
CHANGE OF CLOTHES - During this wet weather we have more and more children coming to the office for a change of clothes due to slipping over or jumping in puddles. We have completely run out of shorts or track pants in the first aid room and we have very few culottes. Please could you put a change of clothes in your child's bag otherwise we may have to call you to come to school during the day to change your child.
SPARE CLOTHES / BORROWED CLOTHES - We would appreciate the return of clothing items borrowed by children from the first aid room. Thanks.
Options for reporting your child’s absence - please ensure you let us know by 9.30 am. It is important that you notify the office, not just the teacher in case of relievers etc.
Text 021 134 0916 Phone 09 5770070 and press 1 to leave a message on the absence line.
Email secretary@elmpark.school.nz or use the Skoolbag app. Report via the school website.
NEW ENROLLMENTS FOR THE REMAINDER OF 2016 AND 2017
Parents wishing to have their children attend Elm Park School must complete an application form for enrolment. If your child turns 5 this coming year or next year and we have yet to receive an enrolment form, please contact the school office for one or click here to download one. If you put your younger child’s name on the bottom of an older sibling form when enrolling, you still need to fill out an enrolment form. The best time to enrol your child is around their 4th birthday. If you know of children in your extended family, street or neighbourhood who are intending to enrol, please could you encourage them to do so early as class numbers fill up quickly.
This Week in Review
This week we have been working very closely with the local police issuing tickets to those who break the NZ Road Laws in various ways. Please note that we will continue to work closely with them to ensure the safety of ALL the children at Elm Park School. Please respect our volunteers on crossing duty - they also would rather be doing other things than standing in the cold on the side of a busy road. Thank you for your understanding.
