My dear Marczi –

Today at last I’ve found the time to reply to your two letters – I take note of everything you say – and will write to Bárczy^[1] once I’m on the ship, when I have more time – and can concentrate – I’m sorry to hear that one of Elza’s^[2] dear daughters is still sick – today I sent Dezső^[3] a cheque – for one thousand francs – they never ask for it but I think they will need it at this time – it upsets me that Szerén^[4] has not written for three months – none of you has any idea how busy I am – writing letters to all parts of the world. But I’ll write to her from the ship and I sincerely hope that her heart will improve – I too am aware of my weary heart and I am glad that I’ll be able to rest for a while now – five days at sea will do me good – I can live a quieter life here – I will finish my three portraits on Friday – and I leave in the evening with Harwood^[5] – my studio assistant for New York – two hours of travelling – the following morning, Saturday, the spanking new Italian ship Rex sails for Gibraltar – I shall get there on the 8th – The Rock Hotel – Gibraltar – “Great Britain.” Stephen^[6] will already be there when I arrive – the poor boy is very worn

out you have no idea how hard he has worked to develop the factory – Patrick^[7] is there – looking after everything – Lucy^[8] arrives in Madeira on the 8th and from there two more sea voyages to Lisbon. Stephen will meet her there – and then they will come to me – via Madrid – so after 4 months we’ll meet again on the 11th – and from the 8th I’ll be able to rest on my own – on the Rock. From there we go over to Morocco on the 13th – which will be lovely – Write to me in Gibraltar and letters will be forwarded to us – I hope Stephen can be with us for a few days in Morocco – he can only be away for two weeks – I have given up on the President – and with some rest in the country – I might come here for 10 days in September – I am sure I’ll be able to paint [illegible] and Pershing in Paris [10242] – after which, or rather in May, we will go and see the Salon^[9] – My Archbishop of Canterbury [6164] and a female portrait [4019] will be exhibited there, and now I have to ask the Hungarian government for the portraits of Pope Leo [4509] and Rampolla [4511], which have been requested for this year’s international portrait exhibition in Venice^[10] – only portraits of the 17th and 19th centuries will be on display – I wonder if you got the book I wrote?^[11] – One sees it everywhere in England now and here too – I’m sure in the bookstores in Pest too – it’s a great success – an interesting book – I will send a signed copy to the Regent,^[12] to Bárczy and to the director of the Modern Museum in Pest – on the go constantly – I won’t write any more today – By the way [loss] to send notification [loss] francs that you received from Genshov –

csak ma jutok hozzá két leveledre válaszolni – tudomásul vettem mint azt a mit írtál - Bárczynak csak a hajóról írok amikor több időm lesz – s concentrálhatok – fájdalom nagyon, hogy Elza egyik k. leánya még mindig beteg – s ma küldtem Dezsőnek egy chequet – egy ezer francról - soha nem kérnek s hiszem szükségük lesz rá e perczben – nagyon bánt, hogy Szerén három hónap óta nem írt fogalmatok nincsen - mennyire el vagyok foglalva – a világ minden részébe levelekkel – de írok a hajóról hozzá – s szívből kívánom hogy szíve javuljon – magam is érzem fáradt szívemet s boldogít hogy most pihenhetek egy ideig – az öt nap a tengeren jót fog nekem tenni – Itt csendesebben élhetek - Pénteken fejezem be három arczképemet – s este indulok. merülve fogalmad nincs miként dolgozott, hogy a gyárat emelje - Patrick ott van – s minden után néz – Lucym 8ikán érkezik madeirába s onnét még két tengeri út Lisbon-ba Stephen elébe megy – s madridon át – jönnek hozzám – tehát 11én találkozunk 4 hónap után – magam pedig 8ától egyedül pihenhetek – a sziklán – onnét 13án átmegyünk maroccoba – mi gyönyörű lesz – Írjál Gibraltarba s onnét levél utánunk jönn – Remélem Stephen néhány napra velünk lehet maroccoba – most csak két hétig lehet távol – az Elnökről lemondtam –  s falun ha pihen szeptemberben – egy 10 napra talán idejövök – [illegible]-t – Pershingot biztosan Parisban festhetem - miután avagy is májusba át megyünk a Salont nézni – ott a Canterbury herczegérsek és egy női arczképem lesz, most magyar kormánytól Leo pápa s Rampolla képét kell kérnem mely meglet híva az idei Velenczei internationalis arczkép kiállításra csak arczképek a 17ik és 19ik századok lesznek láthatok –

Vajjon megkaptátok e már általam írott könyvet – Angliában s itt mindenütt már látható – bizonyára a Pesti könyvtárakban is – nagy siker – érdekes könyv – küldök egyet dedicálva a Regens-nek, Bárczynak és a modern Pesti múzeum igazgatónak – folyton működni –  ma nem írok többet – egyúttal [loss] küldjenek [loss] francot értesik a mint te kaptál Genshov-tól értesítést – Minden jót kívánva néked – családnak –
