San Francisco:

  • City Barbell: Saturday mornings (coached)
  • Crossfit 7x7/Price Barbell:  Sunday mornings (coached) PS. come here for great views on your SF vacation 🔷
  • CrossFit Golden Gate: Sunday mornings (coached), open gym
  • Crossfit Potrero Hill: all day open gym, affiliated with CF SouthPark.🔷
  • Crossfit SouthPark: Sunday mornings (coached) + open gym. Affiliated with CF Potrero Hill. Enough lifters to host in-house unsanctioned meets every year. 🔷
  • Flagship on Church St. is the home base of Caleb Johnson, an incredible lifter and local crossfit coach.
  • Fog City Community Fitness: has lifters who turn up at meets, seems like a supportive community
  • Invincible Barbell: weightlifting specific. Note: Requests that members follow their program!
  • Lotus Barbell Club: remote team, but coach is based in San Francisco. PS. Coach will travel anywhere in-state for competition support. 🔷
  • Luxfit: Mission Rock location: Saturday Afternoons (uncoached), Monday/Wednesday evenings (coached), Hayes Valley location: Tuesday/Thursday lunchtime (coached) 🔷
  • Strong Friends Gym: Olympic lifting classes Saturday mornings.
  • TRANSBAY location of Fitness SF: big community in the evenings specifically.PS. And sometimes holiday mornings! 🔷
  • United Barbell/Crossfit Soma: Thursday nights (coached), all day open gym.
  • Uplift Barbell: welcomes weightlifters but seems focused on powerlifters

South San Francisco:

Oakland:

  • Brightside Barbell: Tuesday/Thursday evenings (coached), Sunday mornings (coached), generous open gym for members
  • Max's Gym: weightlifting and powerlifting specific gym PS. Want to feel like you're at Senior Worlds? Ask Max to narrate your lifts. 🔷
  • Pacific Strength: Tuesday evenings (coached), open gym when classes not in session.
  • Speed Power Strength: weightlifting, powerlifting, and crossfit specific spaces in a huge spot. PS. Olympians have coached here. Great youth program. 🔷

Further South/East:

  • ASAP Fitness: locations in Dixon, Lodi, and Stockton. Olympic lifting program is associated with some cool folks.
  • California Strength in San Ramon: weightlifting specific gym with a well known youtube. PS. Olympians have trained here. 🔷
  • Central Strength Gym in Santa Clara: no formal team, but has platforms and good equipment, especially friendly to drop ins.
  • Crossfit 916 in Elk Grove: a rare morning barbell club
  • Crossfit Livermore in Livermore: no specific barbell program that I'm aware of, but several strong lifters turn up for meets.
  • Crossfit OneWorld in Union City: strong lifters and great people 🔷
  • Crossfit San Leandro: olympic lifting classes twice a week.
  • Crossfit Silicon Valley in San Jose: active, supportive lifting community
  • Diablo Strong/Diablo Crossfit in Pleasant Hill
  • Hassle Free Barbell in Belmont: weightlifting specific gym.PS. Olympians have trained here. Great youth program. 🔷
  • Iron Warehouse in Hayward: Has a large weightlifting community, also strongman, powerlifting, and crossfit. 🔷
  • Ohana Dome: these guys turn up at lots of local competitions and seem to have a strong community
  • Standard Strength in Campbell: hosts two big meets a year! 🔷
  • Villain Barbell in San Carlos: solid community, lots of national-level lifters 🔷
