Priorities for improved survival
and optimising outcomes.

Date:                 Friday 13th of October, 2017

Location:         Crowne Plaza, Auckland

www.breastcancersummit.org.nz

The Summit is co-ordinated by Breast Cancer Cure in association with the University of Auckland and the New Zealand Society of Oncology (NZSO) Annual Meeting.

The Breast Cancer Summit’s objective is to chart a real vision for the next 10 years through collaboration among New Zealand clinicians, scientists and consumers to drive future research.  The majority of research is conducted in New Zealand by New Zealand researchers, to change the lives of New Zealand women to achieve better outcomes via: improved prevention, earlier detection and deeper molecular knowledge of individual patients' tumours to guide their therapy enhanced by international collaborations.

Whilst the Summit is New Zealand focussed, it’s not insular, with influential international speakers along with world leading local researchers and scientists.

The Summit will offer those working in the field; oncologists, scientists, health professionals, regulators and consumers, a unique opportunity to discuss our current state of knowledge, future research opportunities and what our priorities are for improving survival and optimising outcomes.

Who is Breast Cancer Cure?

Breast Cancer Cure is New Zealand's only not-for-profit organisation established solely to support research into breast cancer. Since its establishment, Breast Cancer Cure has funded over $10M of research in New Zealand over 15 years, ranging from studies into the use of antibodies as a targeted treatment for controlling growth of breast cancer cells, to early detection of breast cancer (ongoing with 4 potential blood markers), to research in the field of immunotherapy and the harnessing of our own immune systems to combat breast cancer. Many cancers gain from the base molecular and genetic work funded by Breast Cancer Cure.

In 2013, Breast Cancer Cure formed part of the Breast Cancer Research Partnership with The Health Research Council of New Zealand (HRC), and has since jointly funded $2.4 million worth of new research projects.

Why a Breast Cancer Summit?

New Zealand has one of the highest rates of breast cancer in the world.  Breast cancer is the most frequently registered cancer in New Zealand women and is the biggest cause of cancer death next to lung cancer. We are aware that although 83% of breast cancer patients today are ‘cured’ (surviving 5 years or more) with early treatment, 17% become advanced within this timeframe and up to 30% of breast cancers will eventually advance.

Focus is needed on a wide range of areas in breast cancer and we would like to look at these issues from a past, present and future perspective.

Venue: Crowne Plaza Hotel, Auckland

We would like to provide you the opportunity to align your organisation with Breast Cancer Cure and the Breast Cancer Summit.  The day will involve influential international and local speakers and will be both stimulating and informative.
